Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

What threads will FWR host in 6-12 months' time?

As women's sex based rights "never come up on the doorstep" and so on, and given the recent backtracking plus complete silence from Stonewall and co. Oh and the news that Harman might be heading the EHRC, I wondered what thread titles we might be seeing on here?

Concerns I can think of:

The stayed CPS consultation on sex by deception

The "spousal veto" (awful name) removal

Cass implementation or not

Sex Ed in schools

Changing/not changing the EQA

De facto marriage

What other things might we be having to discuss and organise over in the coming months and years?

We can anticipate a lot of escalation, and therefore increasing resistance and outrage from the general public.

And alas the backlash, against feminists, against LGB people, against equity. We knew that was coming, we've been warning about it for years.

Many more detransitioners.

GreenUp · 03/07/2024 22:48

In the coming week we might get an announcement that one of Angela Eagle / Kate Osborne / Dawn Butler / Nadia Whittome will become the new Minister for Women and Equalities.

Once Labour are in power, I think Starmer will fabricate some reason to remove the whip from Rosie Duffield.

In Canada recently there was a case where a man ( TIM ) successfully sued a beauty salon for $35 k because they refused to wax their balls ( beauty therapist was a Muslim woman ). And no, this isn't J Yaniv. Look forward to more grifters finding ways to get compensation on these spurious grounds...

Appalonia · 03/07/2024 23:41

Parents being prosecuted, or having their kids taken away from them for not affirming their gender identity. ( as has happened in America and Canada )

More sexual assaults in mixed sex toilets.

There's about to be a massive push on surrogacy 'to be inclusive'. I think IVF funding is also one to look out for as an issue along similar lines.

There's going to be a bunch of court cases that are already in progress that are going to be settled before the Labour get their act together to change the law and I think there will be fail out from that.

Also election results abroad - Trump and the implications for women there and internationally is going to be huge. I do think Trump will win. Canada has an election next year. Expect that to feature as a big backlash. And to a lesser extent the French election is going to have an impact on women's rights.

Watch out for the Conversion Therapy Bill. The gay lawyers are watching carefully about it's homophobic problem. It is incompatible with implementation of Cass too. Which means there's going to be a clash as Labour has promised both - it's not going to be deliverable without someone being deeply upset.

Free Childcare. It's a subject I think will become more prominent.

SEN provision in schools. And the subject of home schooling and how that's impacting women.

Ethuanthisa. (Yes not assisted dying).

I think there's going to be an attempt to reform rape cases, but it's going to hit all manner of issues and a manosphere type backlash. Look out for that generally tbh. I think we are going to see more issues with an 'anti-feminist' agenda. There's a trend going on in that area that I don't think has hit a peak yet.

Hate speech laws which will be a total disaster, be opposed by the traditional media and pretty unworkable in practice and will be used against minorities rather than for their benefit. Mainly cos I'm yet to see a politician understand social media moderation properly.

Labour is keen to tackle violence against women yet prisons are just about to go into meltdown as they are too full, so I think we'll get a bunch of offenders released early. Watch out for ramifications for women.

Another women's health scandal.

Some sort of transcel attack on a woman which shocks everyone.

The role of Victoria Starmer. Is she supporting him enough? Etc.

India Willoughby's downfall when it finally gets pushed that little bit too far. Also see an Eddie Izzard meltdown of some description.

That's off the top of my head.

I might think of a few more.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/07/2024 01:27

KJK arrested...for calling men men.
KJK has associated with someone awful as she was on the same continent as them...

JKR says something on X: ratios, appreciate and meltdowns

Women arrested for wrong think.

Proposed law change around Maya's ruling

As night follows day, there'll be the inevitable sex offenders / rapists / paedophiles in court claiming to be women. A la "Isla Bryson" the press will challenge ministers about these men's presence in women's prisons, showers, hospital wards and changing rooms.

There'll be many more "Emperor's clothes" headlines.

What concerns me is people becoming inured to women and children and men being harmed by the loopholes created by genderism and the undermining of women's rights. When we've heard of several 'women ' rapists does the public start to shrug?

There's already a widespread belief that 'women are just as bad' - I know I was shocked to land on this board and hear the stats on MVAWG. Does.society end up accepting of half the population being routinely terrorised by the other half? I'm sure it suits some men quite well to teach the women a lesson in power dynamics. Redress for feminism.

On a wider and more subtle level, are we going to see more or less acceptance of a pornified vision of 'woman gender'?

Can also imagine Tatchell making more appearances. Harman at the EHRC has got him all excited

I'm going to predict something positive (because we need some hope).

A few more Labour women emboldened by being in government with a strong majority and safer seat will find their voice to speak up about this absolute nonsense meaning Rosie Duffield is no longer a lone voice.

Rosie Duffield deserves a medal.
where are her fellow female co workers ?

shameful. They won’t bend on this one I just know it. It’s not going away anyitme soon and I believe Starmer and gang will have to face this very serious safeguarding of women’s spaces very often.
As long a JK Rowling keeps going and using her voice for the cause especially 🫶

I agree
it’s a very grey area atm and they are going to take full advantage I suspect.
It’s the predators that are going to run with this.
“just because I “was “ a man you can’t accuse me of ………” It’s sinister and has to be discussed in parliament for sure.
We need absolute clarity on this matter.

i feel feel sad for the genuine men out there who now want to transition and just don’t want to impose on women’s safe spaces at all.
Im not forgetting the issues and anxt they will have for people labelling them all predators when they are not.

@Slothtoes
Some of these don’t seem likely. Why would lowering voting age (a terrible idea) have anything to do with lowering age of consent to sex? (Also a terrible idea). On what evidence would age of consent be lowered?

This, was just wondering the exact same thing myself before seeing your post!
What's the evidence this would happen, how and why are you linking lowering the age of being able to vote to the age of consent?
😕

BeachParty · 06/07/2024 15:45

Utter scare mongering thread.

Helloooooo to the drive-by plopper!

Plopper 😂
Do you know how the idea of lowering the age of voting is linked to lowering the age of consent?
Mine was a genuine question that's been asked by two separate people now.
Or are we just not supposed to question anything and just soak in the "we're doooooomed"?

NoWordForFluffy · 06/07/2024 15:55

The person who posted that needs to answer as to the link they've made, I'd say.

Keeptoiletssafe · 06/07/2024 16:12

Toilets!!!
I am hoping there is an amendment in Document T so that public toilet cubicle designs are not enclosed and private. Visibility gaps are at least reinstated at the bottom of doors so it is safer for women and girls in preventing assaults, and for everyone who may have a medical emergency (frailty, disabilities and conditions like strokes, cardiac problems, diabetes and epilepsy).
Also, for the same reason, hope the government stipulate safer designs for schools. It’s a scandal that children have had to be guinea pigs in this.
Looking at it from a health and safety and VAWG it would be a win-win for the government.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 06/07/2024 16:14

It's obvious. We have the age of 18 for a reason. If you lower the voting age, there will be lobbying to lower the age of consent too. And arguments to remove the protections we have for children in care up to 18, and the help after that.

FAFO.

Except I'd rather we didn't.

I wonder if there will be gardening threads for women who are being edged out of professional organisations (see Chartered Physiotherapists' thread) or workplaces after they've 'failed' "re-education"…

FindThatThing · 06/07/2024 16:36

Toseland · 03/07/2024 20:22

Concerns I can think of:

  • surrogacy
  • the trend for celebrities 'leading the way' on wearing virtually nothing
  • egg farming
  • asexuality
  • having to escort all your children to the toilet to provide some sort of safeguarding (a nightmare for young mums)
  • gay men demanding entitlement to 'breeders'
  • single men buying babies

I don’t understand the asexuality one.
What concerns you about 1% of people who happen not to feel sexual attraction?

Utter scare mongering thread.

Ah right.

Women cease to have political concerns which affects women only or mainly women in a negative way, because Labour became the government.

Got it.
