Another infuriating "sports ban" article from the BBC

Darts player Samantha Lewis "has been questioning her future within the game".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c10l58zd059o

Nobody should be subject to abuse or discrimination. But equally, nobody has actually been "banned" or "excluded".

Thank you to England darts for clearly stating that "including 'non-birth-gender females' in women's competitions could 'ultimately result in the demise of our women’s sport'."

'Just keep your opinions to yourself' says transgender darts player.
Another one telling women to STFU.

I'm not sure that the BBC is capable of uncapturing itself.

WickedSerious · 03/07/2024 08:25

What's stopping him competing against other men?

What's stopping him competing against other men?

Feelz.

And so all women must stand aside. Women who also have a passion for darts that runs deep. But they don't matter?

What's the point of this article? It tells us nothing new. It's basically a short piece (lifted from a local newspaper) about someone's shaky mental health. BBC, is there no actual news going on in the world that you have to fill your website with this?

WickedSerious · 03/07/2024 08:52

It wouldn't be the BBC if we went a whole twenty four hours without news of the most marginalised and vulnerable community on the planet.

SamW98 · 03/07/2024 09:05

So yet another pointless pandering BBC article designed to make us all feel sorry for the bloke in lipstick who was 65337th in the men’s league so they want to bulldoze their way to number 1 in the women’s league using their male physicality. And anyone - especially those pesky women - who doesn’t agree should just STFU and #bekind

It really is Groundhog Day

Such a relief to see England Darts unequivocal in taking the side of women, very pleased to read this:

https://englanddarts.co.uk/183-statement-concerning-transgender

England Darts has canvassed its players and executives in this very important issue concerning the future of Women's darts, and how England can continue to protect the integrity within our sport for its female members.

We are mindful that it this has become very derisive issue, and one we would never have thought would be an issue some 50 years ago, when we set up our systems of competition.

England as the national organisation within the World Darts Federation, have a duty to decide how to continue to promote and compete in events which are in the best interests of our members, in this case our women.

To compete and associate ourselves in events with non birth gender females in Women's events would be seen as accepting this situation, along with sending a message out that we are condoning and contributing to a situation which will ultimately result in the demise of our Women's sport, a sport many people across our sport, have invested a tremendous amount of time and effort for many years in securing the right of Women to have their own championships where they compete on a level playing field with their fellow female born competitors.

This decision has not been made hastily, and whilst certain International Championships may be affected by this decision, depending upon the views of others, nothing has ever been achieved without possible sacrifice, and England Darts are fully supportive of our Women and urge everyone within England Darts and fellow International Organisations/Associations to support Women's Darts.

We will not be drawn into being judgemental about any person's life style choices, that is entirely their own choices, and is nothing to do with England Darts, neither will we be drawn into any abuse of any individuals, this decision is to protect the integrity of Women's Darts as a sport in its own right.

On Behalf of England Darts
Tommy Thompson.

Well done England Darts but, ffs, they're not any sort of female.

UpThePankhurst · 03/07/2024 10:27

Should men be banned from exploiting women and their resources? Yes. Yes they should.

Should the BBC now be stripped of its licence and all public funding as having betrayed their own regulations to the point of it being downright laughable?

Yes. Yes they should.

What advantages does a male have over a female in darts?

TWETMIRF · 03/07/2024 10:46

Reach, opportunity to practice

What advantages does a male have over a female in darts?

Numerous. At the upper levels, males have better hand to eye co-ordination, males have better aim, better visuo-motor tracking. Upper body strength also plays enough of a role in darts that at elite levels it makes a difference. So while brilliant women can beat average men, at the elite levels, men will win every time.

Myalternate · 03/07/2024 10:47

Power..

Fenlandia · 03/07/2024 10:54

Great statement by the governing body who want to protect the integrity and development of their sport, but what a word salad 'non birth gender females' is!

lcakethereforeIam · 03/07/2024 10:58

All of which, imo, is irrelevant. Men don't compete in women's competitions because they are women's competitions and they are not women.

There's a picture in the article of some of the trophies this person has won. I counted five. So that's five women who lost out directly and who know how many who got shoved down a space.

I'm feeling the urge to type something conciliatory about mental health, abuse is wrong, etc. Ffs it goes without saying! But guilt trips are abusive too and that's what the BBC are doing.

The difference between featherweight and bantamweight boxers doesn't look very significant, a couple of kilos here or there, but boxing has established that the differences between weight classes is significant, and participants just have to respect that.

No amount of foot-stamping or claims of exclusion or sympathetic articles from the BBC will allow a heavier-weight boxer fight a lower-weight one, you either make the weight or you don't, and you respect the established rules of the sport.

Ditto darts pool, snooker, whatever..

How refreshing to see a statement about women's sport that actually focuses on the importance of women's sport for women.

Peskysquirrel · 03/07/2024 12:15

Re: England Darts' statement. Is that a typo or intentional?

We are mindful that it this has become very derisive issue, and one we would never have thought would be an issue some 50 years ago

Yes I agree, it is fucking derisive! Because women are being mocked, ridiculed and held in contempt when it comes to the issue of men in women's sports!

OP posts:
duc748 · 03/07/2024 12:24

I don't think it's paranoid to suggest that there is an agenda in the higher echelons of the BBC to see 'positive' transgender stories dropped in on a regular basis.

Terrribletwos · 03/07/2024 12:25

Did he mean "divisive"?🤔

duc748 · 03/07/2024 12:27

They could have avoided typos by simply cutting and pasting from any Keir Starmer interview!

Yes.

But the typo should stand. Because our rights are being treated with derision.

I find their statement far more clearly expressed (despite typos and 'non birth gender females' word salad) than Starmer!

He wouldn’t win and he wouldn’t get to intimidate women
