A dear friend of mine is trans.

And I am sure that your dear friend, being a sensible human being realises that since for women the issue is that we don’t know if the biological men coming into our spaces are dear friends or sexual perverts, your dear friend therefore understands that the only way women can be safe and feel safe is for all decent men to keep out of our spaces. That way, if men do insist on being in our spaces we know exactly what sort of men they are.

viques · 02/07/2024 23:39

“I do think that some transwomen are women.”

I am not a geneticist, so in these matters I defer to Professor Lord Robert Winston, Emeritus Professor at Imperial College, who has spent a life time working in the field of reproductive science and knows more than a bit about genetics, chromosomes and human biology and he is perfectly clear that the human race is binary, male and female and that sex is immutable.

They are SO late with this. And still contradicting themselves via the linguistic manipulation of 'conversion therapy'.
I cant trust them, wont vote Tory - am utterly torn, will probably spoil my ballot.

Everything in that article was known by Labour. Its coming out in polling:

https://www.channel4.com/news/who-are-britains-undecided-voters

Women are the biggest group of undecided voters. Newsnight also talked about the profile of the undecided voter. Older women.

Who are Britain’s undecided voters?

They’re the group every party wants to win over - Britain’s undecided voters. But who are the millions of people who still don’t know which party to back on Thursday?

A dear friend of mine is trans.

I'm not sexist, homophobic or insenstive to religious minorities because look how inclusive I am with my trans mate.

Is the new 'I'm not racist, look here's my token black friend'.

My tiny Netherlands Dwarf rabbit is not a geneticist. He does however know what a female of any species is. He likes my husband, but he loves my female dog and me with such devotion it makes my husband nervous around him. Almost like sex is really obvious. Or perhaps my teeny tiny bunny is a fascist transphobe, who can tell?

LaLoba · 03/07/2024 00:16

Look at the hateful little bigot. Punch that little Nazi Terf!

I’m so sorry, it’s been a long day. I’ll get my coat.

Looks like the Guardian can't ignore sex vs gender any more
RadicalisedPastThePointOfSalvation · 03/07/2024 00:19

What a beauty! Maybe they’re trans? Have you tried tying a pink bow on him?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/07/2024 00:24

Thank you for the photo of your bun @LaLoba he's gorgeous ❤️

Thats a great photo! Very elegant and the rabbit is beautifully sleek.
Those eyes put Audrey Hepburn to shame.

StarmersAbsoluteTwaddle · Yesterday 22:33

But this never comes up on the doorstep.

Is that actually shorthand for:

"So I ran off, hands over my ears, chanting La la la! Not listening, bigot"?

CantDealwithChristmas · 03/07/2024 11:14

My Labour candidate who I spoke to about it said it's coming up a lot on the doorstep.

Honestly, this from the Guardian???? This is, like, their Ozymandias moment. I love to see it.

SinnerBoy · 03/07/2024 11:16

We haven't had any canvassers for me to berate.

TWETMIRF · 03/07/2024 11:30

I keep hoping that someone will but they never do. Think they concentrate on the towns and just ignore the villages.

Seb Coe used to be my MP and I remember him coming in and having a drink while on the campaign trail. I only found out that he was a famous athlete at the 2012 Olympics when I asked why he'd suddenly popped up again.

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 03/07/2024 11:41

Too bloody late by the Guardian and obviously deliberately so.
See, we have raised it, but you all voted Labour anyway so evidently it's not that big an issue, and TWAW anyway.

Lovelyview · 03/07/2024 11:43

I was going to spoil my ballot paper but now I think I'm going to vote Labour. I know they're not there yet but Kier Starmer has said men with a grc shouldn't be in female spaces, India Willoughby has thrown his toys out of the pram on Twitter, Wes Streeting gets it and the Darlington nurses aren't going away until the inevitable settlement in their favour. My nightmare now is that Labour would need the support of the Greens or Lib Dems in a coalition. Both of these parties are full-on batshit genderwoo and I don't want them to be in a position to negotiate. It may be the wrong choice and I will be holding my candidate to account on this but that's where I'm at.

Hyperions · 03/07/2024 11:46

If Harriet Harmsn is in the Equality committee as seems likely under Starmer you can kiss goodbye to your rights. And safeguarding children will be a thing of the past

What is the likely outcome in your constituency?

I think it's incredibly unlikely that Labour will not win an overall majority and my fear is that the Lib Dems will be the official opposition.

I considered voting Tory to stop the Lib Dems getting in, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. If Labour had a chance of beating the Lib Dems in my constituency I might have held my nose and voted for them but that is never going to happen. I spoiled my ballot paper in the end but if the Lib Dems end up getting slightly more seats than the Tories I will probably regret not voting Tory.

Hyperions · 03/07/2024 11:51

I think it will be close in my constituency so I'm voting Tory, we need a viable opposition. And Ed Davies campaign buffoonery and TWAW has left me cold.

Sorry. I will do better. I’ve made a donation to Stonewall’s Gendered Butterflies and will prostrate myself in front of the rainbow flag for the rest of the day.

newtlover · 03/07/2024 11:57

I emailed ALL my candidates asking their views on the women's declarations relevant to their parties- I have had NO responses
Spoke to green canvasser, who sympathised- I suspect agreed- with me, and said he would chase it with the candidate- this was weeks ago, still no answer
Spoke to labour canvassers, they were a bit less supportive, in fact man no.1 said- I'll have to pass that on to the candidate, then man no 2 (I think an aide of the candidate) came and said - it's OK we support single sex spaces- they said they would get the candidate to reply to me- nothing

meanwhile my adult DC who believes TWAW emailed the labour candidate because they are worried about KS meeting JKR ('that evil witch!' I said 😆)
...instant response

meanwhile I had an excellent question drafted for the hustings ....that never happened

It is a red wall seat which swung to Tories but is likely to swing back to Labour with a strong vote for Reform. I'm a centre left voter and would have considered voting sdp or for a good independent but we don't have either in this constituency. I think reform is as likely to take votes from traditional labour voters as from Tories round here. No idea how the vote is going to pan out. The labour candidate hasn't replied to any of my questions and I think he's going to follow whatever the labour party whip tells him to do.
