Gender GP Helen Webberley interview in the Times

I respect the Times for printing this, because I genuinely think it's right to get both sides. It doesn't change my opinion of HW or her husband. It looks like they have an extremely swanky house to me. There's gold in them there pills.

There are some errors in the article.

Earlier this year, the High Court was told that GenderGP had prescribed “dangerously high” levels of hormones to a 16-year-old boy that could have resulted in sudden death.

That's not what happened. Dangerously high levels of testosterone were prescribed to a 16-year-old girl.

https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Approved-Judgment-Re-J-1-May-2024.pdf

Not only did Gender GP prescribe this top-end dosage to a testosterone-
naïve child, but they did so by directing a ‘loading’ (double) dose at the commencement of the treatment. Dr Hewitt advised ‘with confidence’ that ‘there is no professional society of paediatric endocrinologists internationally who would consider this anything other than a highly abnormal and frankly negligent approach’

In October 2023, Dr Hewitt advised that the level of testosterone in the blood was ‘dangerously high’ and that, apart from the potential for adverse long-term consequences of such a level, J was ‘presently at risk of sudden death due to thromboembolic disease’, meaning the potential for the hormone to cause thickening of the blood.

They know they're obfuscating or they would have specified which hormone.

Sadly the FGM legislation does not cover this type of scenario.

What about if a GP found that a <18 was being taken abroad for surgery? Mastectomy or other?

Speaking as the mother of a gender dysphoric son - this woman needs to be in prison.

https://www.gendergp.com/transgender-suicide-rate-youth-explodes-in-uk/

This came up on a Google search- I actually really hope it's not true but I have seen a figure of 16 suicides quoted before.

It's the stat the foxbotherer has been using in his latest grift. No proof, just a 'senior whistleblower' who's unnamed.

If true - then I'd want investigations into whether it's related to lack of puberty blockers, or selling a lie and a suicide myth to children with multiple mental health issues.

popeydokey · 29/06/2024 11:36

That is a great piece.
My highlights

GenderGP is registered in Singapore, a country where gay marriage is illegal, and is not registered with England’s Care Quality Commission.

GenderGP has ditched health advisers in favour of providing transgender people with “self-service” treatment recommendations using an AI algorithm.
It means, for example, that a person’s blood test can be analysed by an algorithm, instead of a human health adviser, to provide a treatment recommendation for the patient to take to a doctor.

The former GenderGP worker Dolly Osborne was awarded £84,599 in April 2023 by a judge in an employment tribunal against GenderGP PTE Ltd for disability discrimination.
The payment has not yet been made. Osborne, a wheelchair user, claimed that she was fired after crying and correcting a few spelling mistakes in a document.
Tribunal documents showed that GenderGP did not respond to the claim. Webberley said that GenderGP was not invited to the tribunal.
She said: “GenderGP is too big an organisation for me to be responsible for every single facet of it. Whoever owes her needs to pay it, but I’m not writing the cheque.”

When discussing the effects of puberty blockers on brain maturation — something mentioned in the Cass review — Webberley conceded they may temporarily affect older teens. However, she added: “Permanently? They haven’t got the data on that.”

As always on this topic, the comments are great. The public is not buying what the TRAs are selling.

Comments have been turned off now.

The throwaway comment about the former employee who won a tribunal against GenderGP and is owed about £90k is also breathtaking.

Sadly, at least one of GenderGP's young patients has taken their own life following 'treatment' by the Webberleys.

A retired consultant physician has been stuck off for wrongly prescribing sex-change treatments to seven transgender patients - one who was aged just 9 and another a teenager who took their own life few months later.

Dr Michael Webberley, who spent 34 years working for the NHS, provided puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones via GenderGP, an online gender clinic which he ran with his GP wife Dr Helen Webberley.

I can still see the comments because I left the page open this morning. There is one from a GP:
"Having received ‘paperwork’ from genderGP at work (GP) she’s a deluded as she is dangerous. Their assessments are hopeless and it’s nothing more than a drug dealing operation no different to buying cocaine etc"

Binglebong · 29/06/2024 12:25

I know it's not the point of this thread but that ex employee has proof that GenderGP has no intention of paying a court order. Can she take legal action based on that?

chouxchoux · 29/06/2024 12:36

Agree with a pp: this woman should be in prison.

Holy fuck that's terrifying.

Excellent journalism from the Times- just the facts, interspersed with quotes.

'She described puberty blockers as “the most natural medicine”. Testosterone, when used on people whose testicles don’t work, was the “most natural drug in the world”.

“People are alarmed at the side effects — well, these are the natural hormones we produce every day”, she added.'

JFC

Was just thinking the very same. Well done that journalist 👏 #letthemspeak

ArabellaScott · 29/06/2024 12:44

What crimes has she committed?

Would these be medical malpractise, or something else?

Why, when so many doctors refuse to fill prescripitions made by GenderGP, when they are aware of how dangerous this company/the Webberleys are, has nobody submitted complaints, raised concerns? Cass herself raised concerns - why hasn't formal action been taken?

ArabellaScott · 29/06/2024 12:46

'A care provider commits an offence if—

(a)an individual who has the care of another individual by virtue of being part of the care provider's arrangements ill-treats or wilfully neglects that individual,

(b)the care provider's activities are managed or organised in a way which amounts to a gross breach of a relevant duty of care owed by the care provider to the individual who is ill-treated or neglected, and'

I very much hope that GP has raised their concerns formally.

It's interesting that they say she is 'deluded'. I've never been sure whether W is driven by venality or delusion. Perhaps both.

The Times has turned off the comments. I guess they got a bit too good.

The archive link I posted may show the early comments - that's why I archived it, nothing to do with me still not understanding how to do a share token, honest Miss.

The FGM legislation only covers female genitalia. So it wouldn't cover a mastectomy and it wouldn't cover surgery performed on a boy's penis. There's also an exemption for where the intervention is necessary for mental health reasons. So I suppose the only situation in which it could possibly apply is if a girl were taken abroad for a phalloplasty or similar. Even then the defendant would probably seek to use the mental health exemption but I suppose the question is whether it could ever be considered necessary to take a girl abroad for surgery which is not legal in the UK on psychological grounds.

Either way I think there should be legislation to prevent parents from taking their children abroad for "gender affirming surgery" and it should protect girls and boys equally. But there isn't. The FGM legislation is not it.

Topofthemountain · 29/06/2024 15:32

I've just read a very long post on the Reddit thread about "the realities with GP" it was a sad but frustrating read, the slow realisation that HW is only following the money and doesn't actually really care about their healthcare must be devastating. The frustration comes because anyone who warned that HW was a self-serving charlatan was just a transphobic bigot.

I do wonder where people were employed, the firing, if in the UK, doesn't sound like legal process has been followed.

Seriestwo · 29/06/2024 22:36

Has Gender GP got any UK trained medics? Are they based in Eastern Europe? And what does Marianne Oakes do to manage Marianne’s bias when assessing new patients?

Speaking of money, near the middle of the article there's a little bit about what she charges.

"
To join GenderGP, customers must pay an upfront fee of £195 and £65 for an information-gathering session, followed by a monthly £30 subscription.

Drugs are charged separately, with a three-month supply of puberty blockers costing £265. Testosterone gel costs £135.

Now, as part of its “future-proofed” service, GenderGP has replaced a team of healthcare assistants answering questions with an AI-generated online “knowledge base”.

It means there is no phone number or email address and subscribers must pay £7.99 for a 15-minute “live chat”. ...

“It’s run like self-service now,” she added, saying: “When you’ve got 10 or 20,000 people emailing every day… you have to change your model.”

And how much is this model making GenderGP? Webberley dodged the question. “I don’t want to get into business and politics — it’s not my expertise”, she said.
"

Not bad going, charging 8 quid for an AI "chat". What a scam. And that she (and her husband before her) are using the desperation of kids to bleed money out makes it worse than revolting.
