Rosie Duffield or Conservative candidate

Just to say, I don't want this thread derailed with the die hard 'Tories are evil, over a decade of blah blah blah'. I am a one issue voter so not interested in holding my nose.

However, I am in Rosie Duffield's constituency. I plan to send an email to the conservative candidate but I've been quite ill so haven't had time to do so am not sure if they will respond.

I do not want labour in or contribute to labour getting in. I think the threat to freedom of speech and women's rights is far more threatening than another term by the Tories. Yet I can't ignore that Rosie has been Stella on this issue.

Tactically I can either vote for Rosie, and unwittingly contribute to Labour getting in.

Or

Vote for the Tory candidate and lose her voice and bravery.

What would you do? What have you asked local new candidates? Does anyone in Rosie's area know what they will do?

My position is Labour are going to win. So if the Labour candidate you have is broadly GC & likely to speak out, they are probably worth voting for.

This, absolutely.

PerkingFaintly · 28/06/2024 10:54

Absolutely what they^ all said about the importance of having Rosie in Parliament.

What's more, she has a track record on this. An untried unknown from another party could say anything they think you want to hear (especially when it's in personal communication rather than a press release), then act completely differently.

It's your vote though.

WorriedRelative · 28/06/2024 10:56

A win for Rosie would send a message to Labour

AmelieTaylor · 28/06/2024 10:59

RosieRight · 28/06/2024 10:37

Yes that was what I was thinking. Well the conservative candidate has actually made this a very easy decision then. I will vote for Rosie and just have to know I voted her in and not her party when they win.

Try & look at it this way (to ease your niggled conscience), even if everyone in your constituency voted for Rosie, one extra for Labour won't make feck all difference, but having Rosie In hopefully would.

Rosie is going to lose a ton of votes in the constituency because of her stance on gender issues. Vote for her.

Do you really think she'll lose more than she gains? (I don't know the balance of her constituency)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2024 11:33

I think it was a bit of a shock when Rosie won the seat for Labour. Owen Jones, ever modest, took the credit for it as he canvassed.

Me too. I'd vote Rosie.

Urbanliving · 28/06/2024 11:40

Rosie Duffield without a doubt!

Wistfullythinking · 28/06/2024 11:45

Under those circumstances I'd vote for Rosie without a qualm.

AGlinnerOfHope · 28/06/2024 11:47

She's probably the only Labour candidate I would vote for. I want her returned with an astounding majority and to be loud and determined.

Yes the local story is the opposition posted a photo of champagne bottles ready awaiting their victory.

I think it will be close. She will lose a few true believers as Labour is believed to be a sure thing so I imagine a few will protest vote. She may have gained some women's votes, but I've no idea what the majority will do.

I voted for her last time and no, it wasn't due to the efforts of OJ. 😂

I'm definitely voting for Rosie.

RosieRight · 28/06/2024 12:07

I think I will vote clearly for Rosie and put a big Adult Human Female sticker on it. I did have a stash at some point.

I'm in Rosies constituency too.

I shall be voting for her.

I think it's a bit of a swing seat, which could go either way. Traditionally very conservative area, it was a massive shock when she won the first time (everyone put it down to the student vote, most students have gone home now).

I think the upper ranks of Labour are almost hoping she wont win. They can take the loss of one seat (that they traditionally haven't held) because that will be cancelled out by massive gains in rest of the country.

And if she loses they can blame it on her TERFy terfiness, and they'll hope she then fades back into obscurity. See here, the voters dont want a woman who believes evil ridiculous things such as only women have a cervix.

I really hope she keeps her seat.

Don't put a sticker on, that might spoil your vote!!

RosieRight · 28/06/2024 12:23

Oh I thought if you clearly indicated a candidate it was still counted?
Well I suppose it saves me finding a sticker!

If Labour are likely to get in anyway, I'd definitely want to make sure Rosie was holding them to account

Maybe you're right but I wouldn't risk it.

RosieRight · 28/06/2024 12:33

Yeah, well your way I only have to locate my passport 😂

I'm in the same position. I decided to vote (and have via postal) for Rosie.

Putting a sticker on may well spoil your vote!

Maybe wear the sticker instead when you go to the polling station, or leave a discrete pile of them behind for others to pick up.

zibzibara · 30/06/2024 11:12

I would vote for Rosie because I know she would defy the whip and vote against any Labour policy that attacks women's rights.

Livinghappy · 30/06/2024 11:15

Rosie all the way. I heard an interview and was impressed by her. You are so fortunate to have her as your candidate.

I have the opposite - leading TRA who is likely to it in.

Bobbotgegrinch · 30/06/2024 11:33

Definitely Rosie. Labour are going to be in government no matter what at this point, and I'd rather a labour government with some Terf MPs than one without.

RoyalCorgi · 30/06/2024 12:33

Rosie without a doubt! She is one of the very few MPs of any party to display any courage or integrity on this issue. You'd be mad not to vote for her, in my view.
