Will losing the whip hurt him in any way? Will he just get it back for apologising? I'm so fed up of lefty progressive men getting away with abusing women.

The fact Cashman was punished for attacking a woman who told the truth is remarkable . It sets a precedent. Losing the whip is a big thing it seldom happens.

It wouldn't happen in the Greens, or Lib dems.

What the fall out will be we shall see, if it is just a one off etc. However TRAs in Labour are panicing right now.

Apparently Cashman also had a pop at James Dreyfus recently. I heard him talk about it on the Queens Speech podcast but it was on Twitter/ X and I don’t have that.
Anyone know what he said?

Waitwhat23 · 19/06/2024 10:53

Cashman's tweet about James in image.

James' reply -

'In case, you’re not aware this tweet isn’t from a troll, but from a former friend of over 25 years
@mcashmanCBE

I don’t normally make a habit of scrapping with people I once regarded as friends publicly. And I’m frankly astonished that some former friends feel it’s a necessary & normal thing thing to do. But this ex-friend has previous form. So I’ll make an exception this time.

I once knew you too, Michael.

And now, I do not recognise you.

At all.

I have no choice but to respond to your unpleasant & nasty comment publicly, as you have me blocked.

So here goes.

“Sad & desperate”? No, Michael.

“Angry”? You bet.

Because of what you have done recently to women & LGB people. You’ve led the charge to betray them in the callous manner. Your indifference & vulgar displays of misogynistic rhetoric have become the source of much consternation & concern to many because of your position of influence. I have very little influence, so it’s rather telling that you blocked me without as much as a phone call, bolstering your imbedded opinion that you are RIGHT & others are WRONG. It’s interesting that you find my voice such a threat now, that you find it so easy to smear me from behind a block. I have zero power. Why are my objections so threatening to you? Is it because some might very well agree with me? Is that so horrifying to you, that choose to behave in this manner?

Your tweet about me contains the nastiness that many of us have come to expect from you. And that’s what’s changed. You were never like this. So please refrain from projecting how YOU feel onto others.

You snickered & publicly humiliated an ex-colleague of Stonewall when he left, you declared anyone “an enemy” who didn’t agree with your dictatorial decrees, two hulking great Q+ bodyguards beside you, as you denounced all those who so desperately wanted to receive legitimate answers, you screamed “No Debate!” & look where that got you, you insanely declared that “GC” people should be “defecated upon”. Need I go on?

You abandoned your principles, & the once- mighty powerhouse that was Stonewall, who dishonestly claimed the “equality” was the only goal, was clearly a lie. And I fell for it. Like a fool.

You say I’m “bitter”. In a way, you’re correct. But not for the reasons you intimate. Like so many of us, we’re angry at the betrayal, at the arrogance, at your aggressive dismissal of women’s hard fought for & won rights.

Stop & think for a moment. Why IS it everything begun to fall apart roughly 10 years ago? Why did Ruth Hunt openly acknowledge Stonewall’s ‘new direction’ ‘would not please everyone’, & then act outraged, when that’s exactly what happened? Of course, ‘trans rights are human rights’, as you so often repeat. But those rights do not & never will include the “right” to impinge upon the rights of OTHERS.

I assumed you knew all this.

I was wrong.

So forgive me if I do feel somewhat angry & embittered at the fact your ‘progressiveness’ comes at such a dear cost. That you’re willing to throw women, girls & LGB people under the bus so effortlessly. That you utterly fail to comprehend just how many people you are alienating by your stance & just how many of those who once supported us so much are now having doubts & turning away.

THAT’s what’s truly ‘sad’, Michael.'

Cashman is a misogynist, thinly veiling his general disgust at women's existence under LGBTQ+ rights banners. I find him creepy.

Meadowwild · 19/06/2024 11:02

James Dreyfus, on the other hand, is a magnificent, wise, sane man.

Username65 · 19/06/2024 11:29

Thanks Pronouns and WhatWait for posting on the James Dreyfus comments. JD’s response as eloquent and powerful as usual. Cashman sounds deranged.

and smug. With nothing to be smug about

greenatthetop · 19/06/2024 11:41

I’m actually mildly encouraged by this. That BBC article referred to RD views on women’s rights, rather than ‘anti trans’. Small progress!

Needmoresleep · 19/06/2024 11:59

James Dreyfus is a name I have heard, but I don't know much about him. Google threw up this great tweet from yesterday:

"This fight we’re all going through…(you know which one I mean )…is so debilitating, repetitive & absurd, (although necessary, as it was brought to OUR door), has its compensations & hidden delights.

The discovery of SO many like-minded people, from all walks of life, seeing the damage done, now, & in the near future & who are prepared to speak up, whatever trouble lies ahead. Like I said before, talking to mine & older generations, who’ve been here before is both uplifting, encouraging & energising.

But what REALLY lifts me is seeing scores of younger people not buying into this manufactured victimhood. Who refuse to bow before this pervasive cult.

They recognise the differences, the hijacking, the importance of our futures, at a time when it’s deeply unfashionable & alienating to do so.

I feel YOU GUYS shall make the ultimate difference. You will be the ones who will ultimately tip the balance. You will be the generation who turn the madness around.

And us old buggers THANK YOU. Sincerely. For your vitality, honestly & courage."

He's right. GC people are people who have resisted pressure, can think for themselves and have spoken out. Bollocks to intersectionality and forming tribes. I want to belong to the tribe of independent thinkers, young or old, gay or straight, black or white, left or right.

Thanks @Waitwhat23 I have found a new hero.

Yes, top guy. Not scared to say what's right, whilst many others keep their counsel.

DialSquare · 19/06/2024 12:16

Love James Dreyfus. Was taking about him to my cousin at the weekend and she couldn't praise him more either. He follows her on X which she was very excited about!

Citrusandginger · 19/06/2024 12:29

I heard Rosie Duffield interviewed about him yesterday and it sounded like he had been pursuing something of a campaign against her for sometime.

It was Andrew Neil on Times Radio if anyone wants to listen.

Agreed. He was also bloody brilliant in The (criminally undervalued - and no, that wasn't a deliberate pun) Thin Blue Line.
