Eminem comes for gender nonsense - low pushback

His new single Houdini which has 15 million views already is pretty scathing with jokes about transitioning cats. Pretty catchy:

Like other male stars who question this stuff Gervais, Chapelle, Alice Cooper etc he won't get seriously cancelled. Indeed interestingly even though his position is blatant in the song a lot of press so far does not even mention it. The main focus is talking about Eminem dissing Megan Thee Stallion, which is fairly typical for him see what he said about Britney, Christina Aguilera etc.

Eminem has a genderfluid them daughter Stevie which Eminem clearly thinks is nonsense. However the daughter APPEARS in the video with her two sisters to look shocked and get it more views. So Dad can misgender away apparently.

The BBC article on his return doesn't even mention any of this. Remember women artists were treated as pariahs for just questioning any of this.

Even more telling is the Pink News article. Remember how insane the coverage Pink News was of JKR. Here Eminem gets treated as basically a bit of a edgy jokester rather than a person triggering a trans genocide.

Eminem takes swipe at RuPaul and Megan Thee Stallion on new single ‘Houdini’

I am not sidelining Eminem's own love of edgy women hate here. He has said a bunch of repellent stuff, but cancelling him over it didn't work twenty years ago and is not going to work now. Just noting the massive double standards. Also this suggests the narrative is breaking down a little further.

Stevie is his adopted daughter

Eminem has one biological daughter called Hallie I think?

He and Kim adopted their niece, and he also adopted Kim's daughter from another relationship.

I actually have a lot of admiration for the man behind the Eminem and Slim Shady persona

Eminem is one of those men for me - I think he's a genius and also a misogynist. I feel the same about Dave Chapelle. But the incredible talents outweigh anything else. I also think there are far worse misogynists who get away with a lot more. He also writes about the mindset of women haters in an honest and self-aware way. I also cannot think of another musical artist who has written about and been inspired by their daughter and the issues of fatherhood so consistently.

greatvisuals · 01/06/2024 14:54

My Eminem love just got a little deeper ❤

Great sounding tune too

toomanytonotice · 01/06/2024 15:01

I’m not sure he is a misogynist. Same as he’s not homophobic.

his lyrics highlight issues. It gets people talking about the issues and brings them into focus. Shady is violent against women, but all that does is highlight the horribleness of domestic violence. He never manages to glorify it, the subtext is always that it’s bad.

in mumsnet terms his characters are almost a reverse. Tells one side of a story in a way intended to get everyone thinking about and supporting the other side. Iyswim.

i love Eminem. I get the feeling he’s one of the really good ones.

WayOutOfLine · 01/06/2024 15:06

Very entertaining track, you are right, he won't be cancelled for this.

fromorbit · 01/06/2024 15:19

Interesting discussion. Whatever we think of Eminem pretty clear there are way worse people out there. Being worried about an Eminem CD seems like a joke from where we are today.

TWETMIRF · 01/06/2024 19:44

That's a great song, I was only listening to the slim shady lp a couple weeks ago

TheClogLady · 01/06/2024 20:18

Wry laugh at the Bud Light shirt on 2002 era Shady.

19 million views already. Off to watch some more.

WesterChick · 01/06/2024 21:18

Love the track. Why's nobody pointing out it's the same name as Dua Lipa's eminently forgettable song?

blue345 · 01/06/2024 21:20

I agree, I think he's one of the good guys and I've always thought him pro-women when I've heard him talk about his personal life and family set up.

Have to say I really like Stan.

Ah! I should have recognised it.

On the back of this I read about his daughters and had a look on Instagram what throughly lovely “normal” unstarry women they are. No nepotism there. No body shaming they are all so loved you can just see it. Imagine two of them had parents who OD’d. Him and Kim stepped up without question. He must’ve been proud as punch walking the first two down the aisle.

ArabellaScott · 01/06/2024 22:00

What is it with the penis clutching, though? They always look like they've either wet themselves or have got some kind of groin itch.

I get the impression he was prouder when they graduated from university with excellent grades.

as he should be. He’s brought up independent, educated women. Marriage is nice but not exactly an achievement.

Taking the piss. It’s so over done, including the close ups in the rap boy suit, it can’t not be.

if memory serves one of his old videos including Michael Jackson made it more obvious.

WarriorN · 01/06/2024 22:07

Wry laugh at the Bud Light shirt

I got that too 😂

Loved it. Found the bbc article really interesting too when I read it this morning.

The transgender cat line was funny!

fashionqueen0123 · 01/06/2024 22:10

I love Eminem. Glad he’s back.

DustyFire · 01/06/2024 22:11

I think any artist you can describe as having ‘edgy women hate’ is no feminist. He’s in it to make money. That’s all.

nauticant · 01/06/2024 22:24

It's "deeds, not words".

Find him being a misogynist and going after women and I'll join you in throwing the rotten fruit.
