Is it ok for Angela Rayner to address a sex segregated group?

ChristinaXYZ · 28/05/2024 16:04

There are lots of clips doing the rounds of Angela Rayner addresing a room full men, presmably muslim men, on the subject of Gaza. There are no women. Is this ok? Did she speak to the women as well (as they presumaly have the vote too) or just the men? And if not are the women being disadvantaged because of their sex and why is that ok with Labour? Women should not have to vote the way their male relatives do or based on information filtered info from those relatives. Even if she did meet with the women as well why is the sex segregation ok with her?

That's Angela TWAW Rayner. I guess some single-sex spaces are fine with her

AdamRyan · 28/05/2024 16:10

Have you got any more details, like where she was? If it was in a mosque they often have separate men and women's areas (both areas can hear whats happening) so it could be that.

I expect she felt speaking with Muslim communities in a way that was comfortable to them was more important than demanding they met her requirements

BackToLurk · 28/05/2024 16:18

I'm at least as bothered about her apparently going much further than LP policy in regard to recognising Palestine, but then she's scared of how many votes the Worker's Party might take.

LakeTiticaca · 28/05/2024 19:14

Angela should be concentrating on the issues in the UK.
I heard a rumour we go to the polls on 4th July, or was I dreaming 🤔
Oh and it's no secret that Sir Steer Karmer is going after the Muslim vote 😉

The Telegraph says that it is in her constituency. Guido says it is " from inside a meeting between Angela Rayner and Muslim voters in Ashton-under-Lyne, held along with the recently ennobled Labour peer and former mayor, Lord Khan of Burnley".

You can view the recording on the both of the above

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/05/28/watch-angela-rayner-makes-promises-gaza-labour-muslim-vote/
https://order-order.com/2024/05/27/watch-rayner-pleads-with-muslim-voters-as-pressure-from-galloway-grows/

and no doubt elsewhere too.

There is a woman in the room though as she is white and no wearing a headscarf I was assuming, perhaps wrongly that she was part of Rayner's local party attending with her. The presence of this woman and Rayner herslf suggests that it is not a Mosque just that women are not attending and that this is a meeting segregated by the local community.

In video circulating on social media, deputy Labour leader says she would resign as MP if it could bring about ceasefire

I imagine AR would have covered her hair if she was in a Mosque.

It's ok to bully people and call them 'bigots' if you know you can intimidate them into silence: that doesn't work when people hold their beliefs higher than yours. Hence her bending to this reality

Strange Adam, that you think it is fine for the Muslim community to segregate by sex (for no obvious reason of safety, dignity or privacy) when it comes to providing information; but if female members of that community want to use a swimming pool, she would have to accept that some men are allowed in the women’s changing room, where she may be naked?

Runor · 29/05/2024 06:55

Oh, and to make it worse, you do realise that senior Labour figures have been refusing to meet women’s groups for years?!

Marjoriefrobisher · 29/05/2024 06:58

No one will care about this, but they should. At least the half of the population who Labour see as second class citizens should.

Churchview · 29/05/2024 07:52

Sir Steer Karmer
Sigh. Why do people do this?

EasternStandard · 29/05/2024 07:59

Hm at this. All those men

Seriestwo · 29/05/2024 09:25

They’ve all got shoes on dj it can’t be a mosque or someone’s house.

she sounds pleading and awkward.

I don't think men should be in womens changing rooms so your point is entirely irrelevant.

To be honest I don't believe a thing the Torygraph prints about AR, they are desperate to discredit her. Can't have a northern working class woman doing well now can we?

Are you saying this didn’t happen?

Bululu · 29/05/2024 13:56

What do you expect is AR. I cringed when watching this video. She is awful.

Strange attitude to take when it is a video. You can see for yourself what she is saying and how she is saying it and who she is saying it to. You can also see who is not there (women). What the DT writes about is is beside the point. And the fact she is working class and a woman does not excuse what appears to be happening nor can she be said to be in any sense doing "well" behaving like this.

"I don't like the person telling me so I can ignore this news", is not really much of a win in an argument.

Yep

Marjoriefrobisher · 29/05/2024 19:41

Perhaps @AdamRyan thinks the video is a fake.
im sure she’ll be back to tell us.

JimBobsWife · 29/05/2024 19:47

AdamRyan is on ALL the Liebour threads defending them.

Presumably they will soon be along to defend the Diane Abbott debacle. If anything were needed to prove what a liar KS is, surely this is it. He will do and say literally anything to get into power. He even let slip that he's a socialist yesterday which Rachel Reeves did her best to backtrack on.

What with him, the shit show of the Tories and that wanker Ed Davey falling off paddle boards for a photo op, this election is even more depressing than I anticipated.

Marjoriefrobisher · 29/05/2024 19:58

I feel bad about the Diane Abbott situation. I disagree strongly with what she wrote. But she did apologise and retract. There is no legitimate reason for this extended period of investigation. She and her constituents were entitled to certainty months ago. It would be sad to see a trail blazing and in many ways courageous career come to an end like this. And she also has family difficulties to deal with. And she has been relentlessly harassed by racists. It all seems unfair.

The investigation was concluded last year. They've just not been truthful about any of it because it suited them not to be.

I don't care much for Diane Abbott but there's no doubt she's been treated appallingly.

Leftoid double standards.

Hardly 🤣
Sometimes I'm on them if I see them.
Pretty hilarious you are that bothered about me to post this though 😂
