Just that really, I don’t remember seeing any statement or response from him, but I might not have been concentrating. Any links?

I've not seen anything from Starmer but I'm pretty sure Wes Streeting, the Minister concerned, responded on behalf of the party to say they accepted the findings - happy to be corrected but that's as I remember it. I wouldn't normally have expected Starmer to respond personally.

He shied away from it, hissing and spitting, like a vampire exposed to a large, garlic-adorned crucifix, seconds before sunrise.

They speak with, what is it they say, forked tongue.

They are going to completely ignore it all.

ArabellaScott · 27/05/2024 23:01

No, he did not.

ResisterRex · 27/05/2024 23:17

He was asked about the interim Cass Review. Here from about 12-ish minutes. Check his body language as well as the detail in the answer he gives, which really says that parents should be allowed to trans their kids

Yes, and you are right about the body language. I do not think he had given more than a cursory glance at the interim

Cass report. His answer was just a superficial one about whether or not parents should be told. He did not mention any of the important points regarding the safeguarding of the mental and physical health of children who say they are trans.

Then he went on to that elision where he turned a question about “sex based” spaces into one about “safe spaces”.

You sucked me into watching that! 😀And God knows, it was painful! I kept thinking, no, I can't bear to watch any more, but no, I felt I should!

Exactly how I felt! I pushed on through.

Totally agree about the body language and lack of knowledge. He's presumably answering questions on anything related to this topic on the basis that a) he's got to stick to agreed talking points (which is pretty standard for any politician when answering a question, but looks particularly absurd on this topic) and b) an assumption that if he deflects enough, it'll go away so he'll never need to detail. Although this is 2 years old it holds true for now.

This combined with the Stonewall Law approach has survived gentle scrutiny in most places, thanks to a public ignorance and/or disinterest in the topic of gender identity. Continuing to rely on it won't work forever. Depressingly, it is probably going to work long enough to get Labour elected because the impact of enforced belief in gender identity isn't seen in its full "glory" yet by the public i.e. how it completely changes freedom of speech and thought. What's going to be important is how that plays out over the course of their term. I really hope that they'll hit some incredible opposition from the Tories on the key points of health, education and public safety, particularly where it disproportionately affects women and children.

Oh, silly women getting so heated up about protecting children’s health and protecting single sex provision and spaces. Why can’t we just be like Kier and be thinking about it dispassionately and in the terms he prefers to use 🙄

Vote for Labour, we can definitely use our galaxy brains to legislate to unbake the cake of granting males legal status as women and them being allowed to use single sex spaces & services, honest 🤬

It is arrogant too. I think he is stupid enough to have a ‘There’s nothing to see here attitude’ without even ever really looking.

SofaThrow · 28/05/2024 17:38

He is astoundingly awkward to watch.

😂 thankyou Sinner, that made me laugh.

Of course what I’d really like to understand is that that is an actual joke rather than satire which sadly reflects reality!
