https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13458273/Edinburgh-Rape-Crisis-Centre-trans-row-employment-case.html

It was a post which was expressly advertised as being for women only but, three years ago this month, a biological male was installed in it. It required a compassionate figure to lead a charity providing a 'safe space' to help rape victims get through the worst experience of their lives.

The successful candidate was bullish and strident. Mridul Wadhwa labelled rape victims bigots and transphobes if they doubted whether a man identifying as a woman should run a centre helping women recover from male violence.

Blimey Daily Mail!

What an amazing article! I think I may be slightly in love with Jonathan Brocklebank!!

It's revolting that MW is still there. A man with no GRC who wants women fired if they want to run a women-only service. A man who won't even point rape victims to another women-only service. A man who freely opines on whether women orgasm when being raped. He is truly sickening.

Who's benefitting from his tenure and why won't they cut him loose? There's got to be a much bigger story behind this. This must not be allowed to drop. He must go and we must have full transparency as to his appointment and this refusal to sack him.

100% this.

No. Please don't read or share the daily fail.

Be sure to mention that to Stephen Lawrence's family.

It’s an excellent article.
Policing where others get their information from is narrow minded and condescending.

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2024 10:14

All news should be read with a certain amount of awareness of bias. Reading widely and critically is the best way to get a more rounded view of a subject.

PronounssheRa · 25/05/2024 10:16

This 'don't read the mail' is as tiresome as it is myopic. No media source is perfect.

When the guardian start reporting fairly I might start reading it again.

The only thing that could possibly improve that article is the use of sex-based pronouns for Wadhwa.

I agree, but also

Report author Matilda Gosling claims trans-inclusive services are being forced on these charities by their funders

Reporters continue to call the issue 'trans' inclusive. 'Trans people' in women's sport.

It's not.

It's men.

if they don't want to say men, then say transwomen. But it's not 'people' or 'trans'.

Why the hell not? It's an excellent article.

ResisterRex · 25/05/2024 10:44

Quite, Datun. In this case, it's so obviously a means by which to destroy services for women who've been raped. It's despicable.

Nevermind the facism and lies.

Without meaning to be offensive, this is exactly the sort of lazy, tribal thinking that contributed to this mess.

Perfectly nice, right-on people who didn't realise - or refused to believe - the anti-women measures were happening because they hadn't read it in the Guardian. Not because it wasn't happening, but because the fucking Guardian was either ignoring it or actively misrepresenting it.

I will read about what's happening where it's being reported honestly. If you want me to stick to approved news sources, better take it up with them and let me know when that's happening.

exactly.

I have family members who only read the Guardian, and not only do they not know what's going on, they don't believe me when I tell them.

I KNOW. It's MADDENING.

You're telling them the absolute, literal truth and they're insisting that no-one would let that happen don't be daft, and looking at you like you're wearing a tinfoil hat.

Also that Mail piece is excellent.

WandsOut · 25/05/2024 12:01

@Perfect28 why are you trying to stop women from reading about this?
Interesting you are more enraged by women reading the Mail than by women having a MAN abusing their service to deal with sexual assault by men.

This does not reflect well on you at all. It makes me wonder what your motivation is. Mr Idul, is that you?

Anyone who automatically judges an article based on where it appears, rather than engaging their brain and judging it on its actual merits, is not qualified to be telling other people what to read and share.

WaterThyme · 25/05/2024 12:12

While I fully agree Wadhwa should never have been appointed on the grounds of being a man, it’s not that easy to sack someone unless there is a clear breach of contract.

in Wadhwa’s case the board that appointed MW clearly thought it was within the articles of ERCC to do so, so they can’t easily claim now that it isn’t.

The board, young, inexperienced and of a GI perspective as we know, would have to be very clear as to how MW had breached either the organisation’s remit or the job remit.

Well quite. You know that one of the features of fascism is to suppress beliefs and views, partly by telling people they aren't allowed to read non-approved media, right @Perfect28 ?

Refusal to look outside your algorithm-imposed echo chamber is partly why public opinion is so toxic and polarised these days.

Did he not lie about having a GRC?
