Rosie duffield not invited to Labour's electiuon launch in Kent...

...when she is Kent's only Labour MP.

https://x.com/michaelkeohan/status/1793583173101830275 (local journalist)

As someone in the thread says, Starmer knows which bridges he could and should be building. Why does he chose not to build them? He really is signalling Labour are not to be trusted on women's rights.

How do we know she wasn't invited? Perhaps just chose not to attend.

She's responded. Seems pretty clear

Well, Rosie Duffield posted a reply and didn't say that she declined.

Well, Rosie Duffield posted a reply and didn't say that she declined.

She says she is "used to it" and we know Starmer has ignored her before so I am sure that's what she isreferring to. She answers questions in the thread and does not correct those who assume she was not invited. She clearly knows the assumption made.

Rosie is very loyal to the party despite the way Labour treats her and she very rarely calls things out directly. I think it is clear from the exchange that she was not invited. To believe otherwise is wishful thinking I'm afraid.

Maybe she should join KJK's party of women? Labour don't seem to respect her.

Or the SDP who are left leaning but support women's rights to single sex spaces.

I suspect she may have an issue with KJK's latest declaration that transpeople shouldn't be employed in various sectors. That goes beyond being GC for many people.

RebelliousCow · 23/05/2024 14:34

I think Rosie will have an important role to play should Labour be elected in July. It will be of great importance that women in the ranks of the Labour Party visibly speak out on Labour's proposed policy regarding Gender ID. The heat will need to be turned up to maximum.

Really? I've missed that - have you got a link?

HellonHeels · 23/05/2024 14:40

So disappointed in the labour party but not at all surprised.

It's looking increasingly like a spoiled ballot for me in July. I will never vote labour while this shitshow continues

Edited

Even if she speaks up (and gets a platform to do it and any coverage in the MSM) Labour will just ignore her.

It's not as if they don't have form.

Yes, they no doubt will......but that she, and the few others who get it, continue to speak out is important. Also very important that Kemi Badenoch keeps her seat.

Labour say they will conduct 'a consultation' before amending the law - let's make sure it is a proper, fully informed consultation - not like the totally biased one that was conducted to get Self ID passed, whereby only trans organisations were consulted.

In some ways it is going to be more difficult for Labour to wriggle and squirm away when in government than it has been for them on the opposition benches.

i suspect they'll pick a particularly stressful and distracting time to do this consultation; perhaps when they are under the cosh on migration, or the NHS. Try to slip it through unnoticed.

There's a clip doing the rounds on Twitter. It's obviously entirely possible that it's been taken out of context, and it isn't actually that clear when it's from. I still suspect KJK is too divisive for RD, who is essentially a LP loyalist in many ways.

Chersfrozenface · 23/05/2024 14:54

I remember talking to a person I knew who worked for the (Labour) Welsh Government. This person told me quite frankly that consultations were undertaken for form's sake and the responses ignored.

Yes, and that's what would have happened when it came to the Self Id amendment if people had not been on to that tactic straight away.

I'm not on twitter so screenshots would be wonderful for this claim. Although I suspect she is probably referring to more intimate type careers such as STD clinics, maternity, etc. Men might not be as bothered with TM for more intimate exams but I suspect the majority of women wouldn't like a TW to do them. But I'll wait for these screenshots/links of yours first.

Not surprised Rosie has been shafted by Starmer again, even though he's said they talk loads!

I think Welsh Labour are still sending thousands of pounds to Stonewall.

Welsh Labour handed £100k to Stonewall - will Starmer follow?

The Labour-run Welsh government handed £100,000 of taxpayers' money to Stonewall last year, it can be revealed. It sparked fears Keir Starmer (left) would follow suit if he was to become PM.

Labour really are pathetic, aren't they. You'd think they'd be making a virtue of the fact that they have a Labour MP in Kent (apart from Natalie Elphick) and giving her a starring role in the campaign. Idiots.

User2460177 · 23/05/2024 15:54

It’s disgusting the way the Labour Party treat women and Rosie Duffield in particular. I didn’t used to understand why this issue was so important to many women but now I’ve been peaked I’m furious about it all!

I honestly can’t vote Labour because of this and may vote Tory for the first time in my life. It’s that or an SNP misogynist.

IwantToRetire · 23/05/2024 16:59

Whilst having every respect for Rosie Duffield and think her treatment is disgusting, what we dont hear about is in fact how many women are now open about being disrespected by the Labour Party both local and national.

Not always on GC issues, but very definitely if you step out of line of the top down diktats, you get squeezed out if not actually expelled. And the well worn tactic of an investigation that never ever comes to an end.

I start collecting links to news stories about women elected as local Labour councillors who eventually gave up on the party manipulation and resigned to become independents.

Needless to say I've now lost the list, but from memory one was a Labour councillor in Essex, who was put through a process is the punishment ordeal. And in my own borough 3 Labour women councillors have resigned and become independent councillors because of the dictatorial and unrepresentative way Labour was working.

Its partly the local experience but also hearing from women like Rosie Duffield and others who have been expelled or sidelined, even long standing Jewish member of the Labour Party who are anti Zionist, that I have deep concerns about an organisation that runs itself in this way to be in any way fit to run the country.

I dont understand why the media is giving Starmer such an easy ride.

I agree @IwantToRetire , it is not just Rosie Duffield. It is very noticable that when they were struggling with antsemitism it was women MPs like Luciana Berger that felt forced out. Louise Ellman and Margaret Hodge also taking a lot of abuse. I am not a Labour member so can't comment on the atmosphere in the local groups but from following things on social media there seems to be a grassroots 'woman problem' as well as with the current leadership.

Some very unsavoury stuff recently about the leader of Southend Council Daniel Cowan and a female labour councillor who has alleged all sorts of things against the party there.

Agreed! I'd vote Labour but for the fact they don't know what a woman is. I
I'm in Scotland with a current Tory MP. SNP (propped up by the Greens) alternative. I may spoil my Ballot 😔

blackcherryconserve · 23/05/2024 18:16

My MP in a London borough is Labour and a woman. I plan to write to her re GC and trans issues. I don't hold out much hope and she doesn't need my vote anyway as she'll get in with a larger majority I'm sure. We've already crossed swords so to speak in another issue and I suspect she'd like me to shut the fuck up!
