Breakthrough - LGB Alliance meet with Anneliese Dodds, Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities

Four years after starting LGB Alliance finally yesterday have had a formal meeting with a senior figure in Labour, Anneliese Dodds, Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, Chair of the Labour Party.

LGB Alliance
Our thanks to the Chair of The Labour Party, Anneliese Dodds MP, for meeting with us for a productive discussion about our work.

India Willoughby is having a sane reaction to someone talking to some gay people: "This is the equivalent of meeting the KKK."

Lots of similar takes online from TRAs. The LGBT Labour response was less ranty, but equally overboard.

LGBTLabour
We’re incredibly disappointed in Anneliese Dodd’s decision to meet with the LGB Alliance, a fringe group which undermines our fight for LGBT+ equality. (1/2)

We’ll be seeking an explanation from Anneliese’s office, as well as reassurances on the Labour leadership’s policy commitments to LGBT+ people – including Trans people – on hate crime, healthcare, conversion therapy, gender recognition reform and more. (2/2)

Meanwhile in reality world:

LesbianLabour
Well done AllianceLGB & AnnelieseDodds getting together for an initial meeting, let us hope there will be more meetings in the future when LesbianLabour, ScotLesbians, LesbianFB & LGBAllies_Cymru
will also be invited. It’s been a longtime since Labour heard from Lesbians.

Dodds has long been on the gender train, but since July 2023 has started to look like she wants to get off.

Labour will lead on reform of transgender rights – and we won’t take lectures from the divisive Tories -July 2023

I think the Cass report will have shifted her further along. She is an highly intelligent academic, who I think read the Cass Report and has further realised the wheels of the gender train are made of rainbow candy and are melting while racing towards an abyss. She is I hope slowly peaking. The attacks on her from TRAs over the last year for uttering heresy like biology is real will help her realise the train was a disaster all along.

We are seeing more ferrets leaping off the train and reversing. How far they reverse depends on people inside and outside Labour pulling as many kids and people off the train as we can.

This is a signal that following the Cass Report No Debate is well and truly over. The gender wars inside Labour and the unions are moving to a new stage which will perhaps be even more vicious. This means silenced voices can be heard, but will have to still fight to get further wins. The Labour manifesto has yet to be written, we need to ensure that sex equality is in it, and we fight back against a conversion therapy ban which includes banning sane therapy plus a lot more.

I hope she is starting to see sense on this.

I wonder if she will be treated as badly as Rosie if she does start to support women.

I also wonder if this will be in time for women who are single issue voters to be able to consider a labour vote in the next general election.

Never. I trust Starmer and his supporters about as far as I can throw them
Starmer changes his mind at the drop of a hat
I have no doubt when he gets in.that women's spaces will disappear and that the indoctrination of children will continue. Possibly even surgical modification will make a comeback.

Has Starter said anything about the Cass Report?

fromorbit · 16/05/2024 08:32

OH spicy development. Looks like Dodds thinks women's sport should exist and is talking to a group that defends it. What next ?

Hope LGBT Labour doesn’t find out that Anneliese has met with us too

MPs need to hear all sides. That’s what responsible politics looks like.

Get the popcorn out.

There is another thread to discuss what happening with Rosie.

Has Starter said anything about the Cass Report?

He hasn't addressed it directly, but other stuff he said since indicates that the current Labour policy is that the Terfs were right all along, only we don't admit it, and but also somehow claim they also love gender stuff at the same time.

In the Labour leader’s first comments on gender since the publication of the Cass review, Sir Keir said: “There’s a distinction between sex and gender. The Labour Party has championed women’s rights for a very long time.”

However, when asked about whether Ms Duffield was owed an apology by the party, he told ITV: “I don’t want this to go back into this toxic place where everybody is divided.”

Rosie Duffield right to say only women have a cervix, says Starmer
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/rosie-duffield-right-to-say-only-women-have-a-cervix-says-starmer/

That interview lead to the meeting with Rosie Duffield yesterday. Which made him look daft again.

It's becoming increasingly apparent that both Willoughby and Jones are bigoted as anything when it comes to lesbians as well as being sexist - incredibly lesbophobic, which is a form of homophobia.

Imnobody4 · 17/05/2024 17:36

As you were. Same old........

Labour stands firmly against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.

No-one should face abuse because of who they love or who they are.

We will ban all forms of so-called conversion therapy outright, and tackle soaring levels of anti-LGBT+ hate crime.

When they bother to look into it, they'll swiftly realise that's not possible because affirming "gender identity" can also be a "form of so-called conversion therapy" by the evidence we have available.

ArabellaScott · 18/05/2024 07:33

If they bother to look into it. I've watched horrified as the Scottish Parliament raise concerns at shockingly badly written law and then effectively say 'fuck it we're here now' and wave it through anyway.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/05/2024 08:44

YY Arabella, I share your concern about that. What's the situation in Scotland re this issue? I think you have a conversion therapy law in the pipeline there already, don't you?

ArabellaScott · 18/05/2024 08:46

Yep. Green Party and SNP set to charge blindly ahead with Conversion therapy bill - cant recall Labour's current stance.

ArabellaScott · 18/05/2024 08:49

Sarwar said parents shouldn't be criminalised, but this was pre Cass. If he's taken notice of her comments on therapy perhaps he will also note the issues with affirmative therapy.

Hmm, sounds a bit PIE-like and same gender attracted....

Harassedevictee · 18/05/2024 11:08

Anneliese is still hedging her bets on this.

I find it easier to offer the golden bridge to men who have seen the light than women. I think it’s because men have to have the women’s perspective explained when most women just get it because we are women.

To a man putting a TW in a women’s prison is no big deal because they share single sex spaces with men all the time. Most women are automatically horrified as they can empathise with the women prisoners having to share with a male (TW).

It’s why Nicola Sturgeon ended up responding to the question is Isla Bryson a man or a woman with a rapist. She wouldn’t say man or male because she was so committed to TWAW but couldn’t bring herself to say woman because as a woman she knew IB wasn’t a woman.
