Chapter 10: Polling Day
The sun had barely risen when Glenda the gerbil, the Party of Gerbils candidate, sprang out of her cozy nest. She was already dressed in her finest campaign tunic, ready to face the day. The alarm clock buzzed insistently, urging her onward.
After a hearty breakfast of sunflower seeds and dandelion greens, Glenda gathered her campaign gerbils – a motley crew of dedicated volunteers. Together, they scurried off for the all-important photo op: Glenda posting her ballot in the ballot box. The cameras clicked, capturing the moment for posterity. Glenda’s tiny paw hovered over the slot, a symbol of democracy in action.
With the photo op behind them, Glenda and her team hit the campaign trail. They zigzagged through the meadow, visiting every burrow in sight. Glenda’s stump speech was concise but impassioned: “Vote for me, and together we’ll build a better burrow!”
The burrow doors swung open, revealing curious gerbils peeking out. Glenda’s campaign gerbils handed out leaflets, urging their fellow rodents to cast their votes. Some gerbils were skeptical, others enthusiastic. Glenda listened to their concerns, promising better tunnels, tastier acorns, and improved wheel-running infrastructure.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Glenda and her team returned to the Grimbut t-shirt factory. The air was thick with anticipation. A “picky tea” buffet awaited them – carrot sticks, cheese nibbles, and chamomile tea. Gerbils chattered nervously, tails twitching.
The factory had an old television set propped up on a stack of t-shirts. Glenda perched on the edge of a crate, her eyes glued to the flickering screen. The news anchor’s voice echoed through the room, announcing early results from neighboring meadows. Glenda’s whiskers quivered.
“It’s too close,” whispered one campaign gerbil.
“Stay positive,” Glenda replied. “We’ve given it our all.”
And so, the gerbils settled down, their tiny hearts racing. The night stretched on, shadows dancing across the factory floor. Glenda’s tail curled around her, a comforting gesture. The television buzzed with anticipation, each update bringing hope or disappointment.
And so the gerbils waited...
