Notes the Welsh Government will continue to develop the transgender guidance for schools taking account of the Cass review and stakeholder views.

That looks to me like they haven't exactly rejected it but want to appease the 'stakeholders'.

INeedAPensieve · 04/05/2024 08:04

So, they are going against child safeguarding and will not be taking a cautious approach to ensure vulnerable children are protected.

Seems reasonable 🙄

SaltPorridge · 04/05/2024 08:07

You really need to read the whole news report. The motion which was adopted does accept the findings in practice, as I read it.

Yes, reading it more carefully that's exactly what they've done. Safe in the knowledge that no children will actually be given PBs, they can blame NHS England while avoiding the question.

Politicians.

'Instead, an amendment was tabled by the Welsh Government to propose that the Senedd:

  1. Notes the publication of the Cass review.
  1. Notes that NHS Wales commissions gender identity services for children and young people 17 and under from NHS England.
  1. Notes that NHS England has concluded there is not enough evidence to support the safety or clinical effectiveness of puberty suppressing hormones for the treatment of gender dysphoria in children and young people at this time.
  1. Notes the Welsh Government will continue to develop the transgender guidance for schools taking account of the Cass review and stakeholder views.

This motion was passed with all 52 MSs voting in favour of it.'

(Actually quite a bit worse, to be fair.)

Yes, apologies, I was bamboozled by the headline. What they've done in reality is finessed it, made a fuss to claim virtuous righteousness, while.also quietly accepting NHS England's findings.

So the Welsh Government now have a Note stuck on the fridge 'must remember to feed kids, to monsters'.

A worthless bunch of - (insert every know invective, they deserve them all)
😡😡

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 04/05/2024 08:21

It's all just pointless words, isn't it? They're not offering up children to monsters because they know there are none in Wales and no practising ones in England now! They can say whatever they feel is safest, it makes no difference at all.

Yes, I initially thought that it was an outright rejection.
Instead it seems to be a stealth equivalent of what Wes Streeting said in the House of Commons.
However, by making it so hidden, it's not clear how they will join it all together and stop Welsh schools from continuing to generate the pipeline across to English gender identity clinics. Similarly, Wes Streeting is unclear on this, given he talks about adopting the Cass Report recommendations out of one side of his mouth then "trans children" out of the other. The deeper a safeguarding approach is buried under words, the less likely it is to happen. There will be enough activist politicians who can employ stealth tactics themselves to deliberately keep it buried, in amongst lots of other priorities, as per the Dentons' strategy or the game of Werewolves.

May 2The headline gives a misleading impression, but good to see this article. The majority of speakers in the debate were supportive of the Cass Review and are clearly taking it seriously. @WGHealthandCare @Eluned_Morgan's statement was encouraging, but more detail is needed.

Yeah the result of the process is more complicated. In the debate there was a mix of TRA lines, two Tories telling the truth, and most importantly some Labour people showing a glimpse of reality.... oh wait the Cass report seems to indicate that the gender stuff we love has HUGE PROBLEMS. Ferrets incoming... changing direction.

This follows on from a bunch of awesome women finally getting into the Senedd and confronting them with reality on April 25th.

Supporters of Labour Women's Declaration Cymru met in solidarity with women from WRNWales, MerchedCymru and LGBAllies_Cymru at the Senedd yesterday to support Cathy Larkman, lead of WRN Wales, speaking at the Reform Bill Committee. 1/3

Diolch yn fawr a llongyfarchiadau, Cathy for raising many important points for the committee members to consider, including:
• repeatedly quoting from the Equality Act, a woman is "a female of any age"
• self-ID is not a protected characteristic in the Equality Act

• To address the lack of women putting themselves forward to represent their communities, political parties must not continue to ignore the voices of women's rights groups such as WRN Wales, Merched Cymru and LWD Cymru.

Diolch i bawb who were there and watching online. 3/3

The bill for a 100% Male Senedd is going to fail.

Long way to go yet, but the Welsh government is going be pulled kicking and screaming into the real world with a horde of ferrets pushing them along.

Well done to all the brave women who've pushed this.

It's infuriating that people are still putting their reputation above the safeguarding of children and weaselling to save face.

I have far more respect for those who admit they were wrong and apologise.

Lying buggers.

Keep an eye on the school guidelines and get involved in your school. I'm not sure how that works in Wales - we have parent councils in Scotland that are a good way of keeping abreast of school policy, etc.

OP posts:
BonfireLady · 04/05/2024 11:28

I would second that re getting involved. I started the conversation using the Interim Cass Report, which had very little publicity. Progress has been slow but I'm getting traction. Some PHSE materials and library books have been removed/quarantined and other things are happening. It's very clear that the school has an activist group of staff somewhere within it, but what's not yet clear (I'm unpicking it collaboratively with the school) is whether these staff are acting nefariously or are simply caught up in believing that it's the kind thing to do for inclusion.
More conversations still going on, not just with the school.
It's a balancing act of trusting the school leadership to tackle it (which I do - I'm balancing out actively supporting them and stepping back) and keeping the checks and balances in place to make sure that progress is happening.

JellySaurus · 04/05/2024 12:33

Welsh Senedd members consider criminalising lying by politicians

"It can’t be right that the unscrupulous should be allowed to knowingly make false statements to court popularity or win votes without consequence."

What, like TWAW?

MishyJDI · 04/05/2024 12:51

Given the Cass review is so fundamentally flawed and being panned internationally, it's no wonder. Good on Wales for standing their ground.

Changing methodologies, not holding to their own criteria, secret committee members who have interesting associations for a start.

Those with a thinking brain can see what it is. No wonder they met with Florida?

And talk about safeguarding and do no harm - so where was the strategy for those poor kids having their meds withdrawn. Where are the services stepping up to support?

Smells like a setup from the start - we are so much better than this.

Wales looks like the only part of the country, willing to call it out.

I know you will dislike the graphic, but it makes solid points. Why the secrecy?

Probably not, except for a brave few, as it's not an issue for the majority of Scots. The new team are focusing on the things that matter, rather than a side distraction.

However. There is so much ammunition out there to rip Cass to shreds, if they wish to do so. Now that, would be true, popcorn eating time. The spin will be amazing, though probably a low event in reality. Can't wait to find out!

We need a post office style inquiry into the Review. Who knew what, when, and who was directing behind the scenes?

That is where the true conspiracy lies. Political division and opportunism.

I just feel for the minorities being called wrongly "groomers" and worse. Truly, this is their section 28 time. Meanwhile, this forum probably still griping on about stuff in 50 years time. I do find it enjoyable to read on a Bank Holiday Weekend.

I could say the same. I like to read critically through these things rather than blindly follow the bleating sheep. Seek your own answers. If you still uphold them after doing the work, then that is on you, and of course your right. But, do, do the work! :) No need to get my name wrong in an attempt at denigration. You lose the argument when you do that.

What to be open to being kind and considerate to others? Contrary to opinions on here trans is not a social contagion. He may just be taught to value others and diversity? Do what I did with my three. Talk at home about the lessons learnt at school for context. I had some fascinating talks with my kids doing that and they are healthy, accepting people. Don't be dragged into the fear of evolutionary thinking. Wales education is brilliant. Better than England from what I have seen.
