YouGov wants to know if you think "gender ideology" has gripped the NHS

... you probably know exactly where you stand on the question that has got so many politicians in trouble over the past few years: can a woman have a penis or can a man have a cervix?

The more cautious of the leading politicians do their damndest to duck the question. Keir Starmer probably wishes he had. But now the health secretary Victoria Atkins, no less, has waded in with an attack on what she sees as the gender ideology that has gripped the health service in recent years.

What is your reaction?

Introductory paragraphs to a longer article by John Humphrys which ends:

So where do you stand in this debate? The question is not whether trans people have rights when it comes to their treatment at the hands of the NHS. That is a given. The NHS exists to serve us all. The question is how those rights can be balanced in a way that enables medical staff to treat all their patients with respect.

Let us know what you think.

Only problem is I cant seen how they want us to let them know.

All I can see is down at the very bottom left of the page is an email link which doesn't seem to be for that.

So does this mean they dont really want to know what we think?

Confused

The "Let us know" is a tag line at the end of every article he writes. It's not how they garner the polls data or the like they frequently publish. It's just a bit of author flourish to make the piece sound more engaging, though if lots of people clicked that "contact us" link and sent email about the subject, they might be more inclined to do more coverage on it.

You can give feedback the consultation website.

As the articles describes, the NHS constitution is currently out for consultation. That's the point of the article I think. To highlight some of the proposed changes.

I scrolled down for how to let them know, but nada

Bit pointless to request

It's just a personality column to provide interesting content for their website. It isn't part of their data gathering process, by the looks of things. I guess the 'let us know what you think' is just a hook for reader engagement, as in newspapers etc.

"The question is not whether trans people have rights when it comes to their treatment at the hands of the NHS. That is a given"

Is it a given? Why should a special group of people be given cosmetic surgery on the NHS when there are many people waiting for actual life saving procedures? Why should a group of people be able to lie about their sex - making them actually more vulnerable as, like it or nor, sex is real and various conditions impact the (only) two sexes differently?

I know there is a consultation.

I was reading the OP and trying to work out where 'you gov' wants to know what we think about gender ideology and its grip of the NHS.

The NHS constitution is breaking the law, and doesn't need a consultation to change their illegal rules to meet their legal requirements. After all they didn't have a consultation to break the law, did they? That was an activist driven secret Annex added with nobody's permission.

If you go to the yougov menu and click on 'sign up' you can become a member and take part in surveys. That might be the only way to find out if a survey on this question is happening.

Anyone can join in their 'daily chat' with just an email address, and after the first time they keep emailing you about daily chat topics and spot surveys, but they don't tell you about member surveys.

They're on fb and X and might reveal more there.

I've filled it in and left comments to the effect that it's good that they recognise sex and gender identity are different and that it's important for women's dignity not to be subjected to unwanted transw as either ward mates, or carers.

It’s a given that they have a right to treatment if they are sick, just as everyone else does. What’s not a given is that they should get the treatment they want. The NHS should be following the best evidence base they have and that treatment is what those wanting to transition should be offered.

It’s another reason why there should be a follow up to Cass for adult patients. Creating patients with multiple health problems from physically healthy patients with mental health problems seems like an incredibly expensive pathway to jump on. If it can be demonstrated there’s no benefit, then it shouldn’t be provided out of taxpayers money.

I don't disagree but "trans health care" usually isn't referring to the same access as everyone else. It usually means unnecessary medical interventions, the mangling of language to suit an imagined self and compromised single sex spaces.

It was very late when I posted this and am now thinking this is an article written for their "Panel Members". These are "special" people who they consult with, not the run of the mill people who get sent the odd survery on obscure shopping habits, etc..

I signed up to YouGov years ago (and have used it to save money - they now owe me a 3 figure sum!!) but have very rarely had a political survey to complete.

If any one wants to reply you can use any of their email addresses and point out if they are going to publish an article on internet asking what do you think, they they should provide a method to respond.

You could use either the press or the sales contact email and point out how foolish this makes them look https://yougov.co.uk/about/contact

But like many other "institutions" standards at YouGov are now shockingly low.

Now doubt they will flourish with great authority the latest opinions re the NHS and trans issues.

I fill out YouGov surveys and there was a question today asking if we thought that trans women should be competing in women's sporting competitions. It'll be interesting to see the result. I think they asked this a couple of years back. I would expect there to be far less tolerance now for such things.
