@ArabellaScott thanks for posting, I had been wondering about POW in these elections. Do you know if they’ll be active in the next Scottish election whenever that is?

I don't know! Who knows when the next election will be- could be two years, could be next week!

The state of Scottish politics is all a bit chaotic to say the least.

I haven't heard of any POW candidates up here yet.

It's an amazing result. I wonder if publicity over the Storyhouse debacle had anything to do with it?

@Ofcourseshecan
It’s annoying that when I googled Party of Women, the first results were all for the so-called Women’s Equality Party,

That's search syntax. You can force Google to find exactly the words you are looking for in the sequence you are looking for, by putting the string in "xyz" quotation marks.
Without quotation marks, the search engine will look for any of the words in any place in the document/site.

Thanks, Delphin!

Seahorses, what was the Storyhouse debacle?

BingBongSong · 04/05/2024 09:29

@Ofcourseshecan, here's what happened at the Storyhouse Chester when Patsy Stevenson was opening the Storyhouse Women weekend. If I'd known, I'd have gone out to say hello to the Resisters!

Chester Storyhouse Women Weekend

Local Women were dis-invited from holding a stall after they declined an invitation to appear on a panel alongside renowned men's rights activist Patsy Steve...

I am impressed at these candidates commitment and ability to speak openly about the issue that affects all women. Shows that actually engaging locally and speaking honestly does work. Thank you to all of them.

Helleofabore · 04/05/2024 09:55

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/05/2024 04:31

Yes Helleofabore. WEP has a much higher profile and (presumably) much more funding. POW has only been going for, I think, four weeks. They have done very well indeed.

The 'grifting' comments are beneath contempt.

It was from people I didn’t expect anything better from I suppose.

Who was the woman speaking from the stage?

The local councillor was formidable.

quantumbutterfly · 04/05/2024 10:06

Is patsy the redhead that was manhandled during the Sarah everard protest?

How did she end up throwing women under the tra bus?

Patsy is indeed that person.

I think we recognised straight away that Patsy was only about Patsy and what is the popular opinion amongst the people patsy hangs with.

Sloejelly · 04/05/2024 10:19

3.8% more than the Green constituency vote in Scotland.

This is KJK's live, post election, Youtube video from yesterday. She talks about all five candidates that stood. I think it could be helpful to anyone looking at getting GC voices out there in general even if you are not a KJK/PoW supporter.

I'm not a member (yet) but PoW are running on a shoestring budget atm and will be looking for more candidates to stand for them in the general election. I suspect that, given the dissatisfaction with the established parties, there will be support from quite a lot of quarters if any woman chooses to stand for them. There have been so many strong GC women speaking out in Scotland, it would be amazing if they could put up some PoW candidates whenever the election comes!

Voter turnout where I am hovers around 40%, it would be interesting to see that split by male/female representation.

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 04/05/2024 11:56

Amazing given how new they are.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/05/2024 11:58

Ofcourseshecan · 04/05/2024 07:19

I agree. Congratulations to Sally James, KJK and all who helped achieve this significant result.

It’s annoying that when I googled Party of Women, the first results were all for the so-called Women’s Equality Party, which has long been trans-dominated.

I tried an alternative search engine, DuckDuckGo, and that found the real POW straight away.

Interesting. I'd wondered why Google refuses to show them for me.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/05/2024 11:58

Interesting. I'd wondered why Google refuses to show them for me.

I've just asked someone in the know about this. In Google, the more traffic, the more relevant text, the more links to it from other sites a website has, the higher up the rankings it will be. The answer is to search for and link to the party site you want as much as possible. So I suppose that is another way of positively supporting something which doesn't cost you anything other than a tiny bit of time. I think I might just get into the habit of doing a search every time I open up my laptop.

This obviously applies to any searches for any party but, as an example, search for the words you want in inverted commas ie "party of women" if that is what you want to find, or use additional terms eg. I've just tried party of women pow without inverted commas and it got there straight away. Spread the direct link to the website you are supporting in any texts, tweets, blogs etc you can.

Brilliant - they've only been going a few months.
Libdems - £££££££££ from big pharma
Labour - £££££££££ union's
POW - us. Not the far right christian/nazi bollocks, just ordinary women
Well done

Yes!

Bosky · 05/05/2024 12:18

Wow! . . . or POW! . . . that guy at Labour Heartlands really gets it!

I think I'll chuck a tip in his donation bowl for that!

It is incredible what those women have achieved in just four weeks.

Although WEP has not won any seats in previous council elections, I was surprised how well they have done in the past in some areas, ie. still well down the ranking but getting more votes than some other well-established "fringe" parties. However, that they actually won a seat this time around genuinely surprised me.

That after nine years plus donations from the Google guy who wanted the ultimate in validation for his trans-identifying son: a political party allegedly "for women" that would include him "as a woman". They should be called "Women Including Penises Party".

The sniping from the sidelines by The Usual Suspects is pathetic. They are really showing themselves up. I was beginning to feel embarrassed for them but they are really no better than TRAs. Beneath contempt.

It's also incredible what KJK has achieved. Where she gets the energy from, God only knows.

Hats off to Mandy Clare too! WEP might have finally bagged a Council seat but POW was there first, within days of being registered.

I was watching some political programme where there were the usual, justifiable, criticisms of Labour, ie. that it has become detached from its roots, full of MPs who are career politicians, segueing straight from University into political roles.

It cannot be emphasised enough that POW is a genuinely grassroots movement, growing out of Let Women Speak events where "ordinary women" (rather than party political careerists) talk about issues affecting them, their children, their elderly parents and their families.

At one Reformers Tree meeting an older feminist talked about how she had been at Greenham and been part of women's consciousness-raising groups in the 1970s and that she had never seen anything similar until she went to LWS.

That says everything about how feminism drifted away from its roots, same as the Labour Party.

I have no problem with KJK rejecting the label "feminist" when she got sick of all the, "She's not a proper feminist because . . . " nonsense.

It's not like "feminist" is synonymous with "honest, decent person" or "has women's interests at heart" or "campaigns effectively for women's rights", as has been proved time and again. Some self-declared feminists are all those things but it is not a given.

Much better IMHO to consider what someone does rather than how they self-identify ideologically: Deeds Not Words.

POW is going to go from strength to strength because women are allowed to belong and to campaign for women's rights and protection of children without having to prove their credentials as "real feminists" according to rules set and enforced by mean-spirited bully-girls.

POW is everything they fear and hate because they can't control it or the women involved. Their eyes are so very far off the prize, mesmerised, distracted by ideological nit-picking while the wonderful women of POW got out there and got those votes in - in JUST FOUR WEEKS 👏 👏 👏
