That's great! Beating both the Tories and Lib Dems.

thirdfiddle · 03/05/2024 22:25

It's 42 votes; still, more than the Libdems or Tories mustered. And a significant proportion of Green. With all their national infrastructure and £££.

PerkingFaintly · 03/05/2024 22:31

More than LibDem & Tory?Grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 03/05/2024 22:51

Fabulous!

Congratulations POW!

PaleBlueMoonlight · 03/05/2024 22:51

Great news.Grin

Um... well, I'd always be happy to see anyone stand up and put their money where their mouth is, but it's clearly a very, very minority priority in that constituency.

By that rationale, so is environmental issues given how low the green party vote was.

For a party that has only existed for a few months, after a long fight for that existence, a foot on the ladder is brilliant.

Especially when well established parties, Conservative and LibDem, are lower down.

RaininSummer · 03/05/2024 23:21

This is great to read.

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/05/2024 23:27

Brilliant - they've only been going a few months.
Libdems - £££££££££ from big pharma
Labour - £££££££££ union's
POW - us. Not the far right christian/nazi bollocks, just ordinary women
Well done

The Womens Equality Party has finally won a seat in the local elections. ONE seat after nine years.

Bloody well done, POW!

quantumbutterfly · 03/05/2024 23:56

marvellous.

That is good to remember bore.

However, considering how new the party is, and that there was very little funds for any campaign material, I thought these candidates did remarkably well.

In one constituency they were right up there with both the LD and the Green Party. Certainly a good start regardless of some UK feminists tweeting about the poor result and that they are ‘grifting’.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/05/2024 04:31

Yes Helleofabore. WEP has a much higher profile and (presumably) much more funding. POW has only been going for, I think, four weeks. They have done very well indeed.

The 'grifting' comments are beneath contempt.

TheColourOutOfSpace · 04/05/2024 06:34

Those are fantastic results. Establishment parties with all their funding and spin doctors, and POW still managed to get more votes than them. It's really encouraging.

Am I right in thinking 5% is the threshold for keeping your deposit? In which case, that's a good result for a first timer.

I agree. Congratulations to Sally James, KJK and all who helped achieve this significant result.

It’s annoying that when I googled Party of Women, the first results were all for the so-called Women’s Equality Party, which has long been trans-dominated.

I tried an alternative search engine, DuckDuckGo, and that found the real POW straight away.

Exacterly. It's very heartening.

That's search syntax. You can force Google to find exactly the words you are looking for in the sequence you are looking for, by putting the string in "xyz" quotation marks.
Without quotation marks, the search engine will look for any of the words in any place in the document/site.

Delphin · 04/05/2024 08:14

Well done, the Party of Women!

I am even sadder now. The Feminist Party in Germany did not even reach the required quorum to be registered for the EU elections next month...

That is very helpful! Thanks. And that is a shame about Germany's feminist party. Take heart!

@ArabellaScott thanks for posting, I had been wondering about POW in these elections. Do you know if they’ll be active in the next Scottish election whenever that is?
