So the National fed is organising training on their policy ( the organisation with woman in their title , yet doesn’t know what a woman is…..)

Their policy which says about twice as much on trans and gender than it says on disability . …… and promotes organisations that promotes gender ideology to minors ( they no longer promote Mermaids since they were embarrassed into removing that but still promote others )

The trainer Ellie Grady from EDUK puts her pronouns ( she / they ) in their sign off.

I am in the WI on a committee and I have signed up mainly as a spy . Most sessions on their zoom are recorded . This one isn’t going to be ….

What do we know about the trainer Ellie Grady? Any photos of her?
Previous sessions ? What might I expect ?

How can someone with slow handwriting keep a record of what happens if they aren’t recording centrally , without drawing attention to my ineptitude?

Going to be interesting post Cass methinks .

Can you record it by stealth on your phone?

FlakyPoet · 29/04/2024 15:00

Or even screen record it?

CatPancake · 29/04/2024 15:04

Can you ask about the fucking fuckity fucking glossary of terms that accompany their Equality Policy not defining ‘lesbian’ but defining words like agender and cross dressing please? Fucking fucks.

also have you collabed with the gender critical WI twitter handle? Unsure who they are but they might be good to connect with.

DisforDarkChocolate · 29/04/2024 15:07

Audio record on your phone. Or set your phone to record the screen and audio.

Ask all the embarrassing questions about how they comply with the EA and the impact of Forester etc. Oh, and safeguarding as you will have vulnerable members. And religion. Asking about women will get you feck all.

CatPancake · 29/04/2024 15:09

Ooh, please ask them what they consider to be the most important area of the EDI for WIs to focus on in order to encourage access for all members and possible members of the WI?

and if they don’t answer age or disability smack them virtually with a wet fish. Please and thank you.

MarieDeGournay · 29/04/2024 15:10

'The trainer Ellie Grady from EDUK puts her pronouns ( she / they )...'
'She' AND [or even OR] 'they'?? Aren't they mutually exclusive?

Are you allowed record things by stealth? It sounds a bit dodgy - aren't people supposed to be made aware they're being recorded?

CatPancake · 29/04/2024 15:12

I recently used my phones Voice Memo function to record a long meeting I had by zoom on the computer (iPhone)

and then in sheer laziness I used the Dictate function on Microsoft word to transcribe the meeting. It was wrong in numerous places but I decided be easier to edit than type it all out.

I can answer this for the university where I work - it's trans that are most important as they suffer more than anyone else, I know because I asked our EDI people. I followed up with a question on when they will focus on women and misogyny that is rife in the institution and apparently they intend to get round to that once they've sorted the priority area. So that's a relief

Her publicised CV on the wi learning hub website looks a bit suspicious.

“Ellie Grady (She/her)
From a very young age, Ellie has been passionate about tackling all forms of discrimination and injustice. She feels her passion for equality, diversity and inclusion is in her DNA.
Ellie worked for several years within the Education Sector where she headed up a large drama department and took on the role of Lead Practitioner for Community, Diversity, and Inclusion. During this time, she introduced new EDI policies and practices to the Academy chain she worked for and delivered in-house training for staff, students and stakeholders.
Ellie chose to leave teaching due to what she saw to be inequalities within the sector. She became an Associate Trainer with EDUK in 2018 where she fine-tuned her particular areas of expertise: EDI best practice, Unconscious Bias and Train the Trainer.”

wonder what happened ?

Not entirely sure why the WI which is for over 18s only should want / need a company that specialises in equality training in schools should be suitable .

I'm in the WI thanks for doing this.

FlakyPoet · 29/04/2024 15:22

She sounds tiresome.

Xiaoxiong · 29/04/2024 15:43

OMG @Marmaladelover I think this is the same organisation that recently gave EDI training to the staff at my DC's school. However, they wouldn't discuss with me what the content was and of course as a parent rather than a staff member I wasn't invited. Please can you feed back to let us know??

Mercy Muroki and EDI training in the UK. Muroki has worked for Badenoch who is sceptical about the diversity and inclusion industry.

ask that it be recorded, since it's a big subject and other training sessons are recorded.

Ask about the split between trans issues and other types of EDI - in particular disability. What is the reason, are there far more trans members than members with disability? The answer to that will be interesting.

Rightsraptor · 29/04/2024 16:58

I imagine that this training is aimed at life in the WI, if I can put it like that. So, as PP said, all over 18. And women, apart from the odd one like Petra the Tree Peeper. So I'd gear my desire for knowledge, and consequently any questions, around the WI's actual demographic.

What are the real issues that are likely to come up for members of the WI? I'd have thought out of the PCs as listed in the EQA 2010 - sexual orientation, age, disability, maybe religion ? Anyway, you decide and steer the discussion to those and away from the inevitable PC of gender reassignment.

Definitely revise the Equality Act 2010 and have a copy of the relevant sections in front of you. You'd be surprised how many EDI trainers get confused about the protected characteristics (no, you wouldn't really).

Is recording without knowledge illegal? No idea. Probably not good practice. But if you write slowly 🐌 and need help keeping up, and it's for your use only...

PhDinaseive · 29/04/2024 17:10

A lot of my WI are frail and hard of hearing, there appreciate a transcript

AlisonDonut · 29/04/2024 17:14

You can record whatever you want.

I'd explicitly say 'i am a slow handwriter/can't always hear properly/need to lip read sometimes' and if they take umbrage at that, ask what's the bloody point of EDI then?

IcakethereforeIam · 29/04/2024 17:42

@Marmaladelover the bit you underlined, why she chose to leave teaching, seemed a bit handwaved. 🤔

I am all those anyhow - good point!

@IcakethereforeIam
i took it as hand waving too.

Good Lord - half a billion pounds a year spent - in the public sector!!! - on diversity initiatives, according to this woman.

Marmaladelover · 15/05/2024 11:00

We have had to do a preliminary survey for the training. It lists the protected characteristics of the EA but included Gender discrimination as well as gender reassignment discrimination . I am pretty sure that only the latter is a protected Characteristic.

A look at the ED UK seems to suggest they have swum in the kool aid let alone drunk it .

I really need some help in words of 2 syllables or less on the difference between Gender Identity and Gender reassignment. And why therefore it is applicable to equality training.

Here is the question . They mean sex discrimination not gender discrimination don’t they

CatPancake · 15/05/2024 11:44

Yes they do mean sex discrimination when they say gender discrimination

IF they believe in gender discrimination - eg ADHD in women means whoever feels they are a woman - the issue affects all ‘womanly feels’ as a group. I would also like them to consider SEX discrimination - eg women who are discriminated against in terms of their sex. It’s very hard to talk about genital mutilation for example or breastfeeding/<shudder> chest feeding without discussing believing in sex characteristics.

I would push back against them as a campaigning organisation. Even if they believe gender is a construct, they need to acknowledge sex as a protected characteristic. If they don’t want to do it in place of gender - it should at least be an addition.

That list doesn’t specifically imply that gender is a protected characteristic but it sure as hell winks at it.

Edited

the difference between Gender Identity and Gender reassignment.

They don’t actually want to acknowledge gender reassignment differently than gender. The reason why they’re doing it is only because gender reassignment is a protected characteristic in the equality act.

”We should discriminate against people because of who they are - be it man, woman, theym… but also we shouldn’t discriminate against people who have paperwork to say the same”

Is the inevitable point they’re going to make.

Justme56 · 15/05/2024 11:55

Yes it’s sex discrimination. An employer refuses to employ a female on the basis they may get pregnant. This is sex discrimination and should apply equally to all females no matter how they identify (NB or transmen).
