BBC Verify exists to look into claims of misinformation and are set up Tas investigative journalists who try to improve trust of the media especially the BBC.

You can ask them to look into the claims and counter claims about the Cass Review here
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66031515

Will not take 30 seconds, do mention trust, do mention how silent they have been and how that makes them look less trustworthy.

What claims do you want BBC Verify to investigate?

Have you seen a claim made in an interview, speech or on social media that you want the Verify team to look into?

Great idea. The complaints system is utterly pointless, so it's good to have another route to try. This is a lot narrower than the complaints system too, because it's specifically about making sure that the BBC checks its facts before reporting anything.

Even if nothing happens as a result of the ask, it will make for an interesting future FOI for any member of the public and an interesting data point for any forthcoming government Public Inquiry in to how gender identity belief permeated public institutions like the BBC.

The BBC has three choices:

  1. do we conclude that we have marked our homework and accept that we got it wrong?
  2. do we keep quiet and just let the forms sit there in the system, hoping nobody will notice while we figure out what to do?
  3. do we double-down and continue with our reporting that obfuscates and omits facts, creating a narrative that supports gender identity belief?

There seems to be a small shift away from number 3 in the most recent content, much of it in obscure podcasts or on the World Service. So I assume they are seeing option 3 as pretty risky right now.

Anything to get more eye on this win front of middle England!

Cannot believe only More Or Less has looked at this when there is a dedicated department! What do they have to hide!

Well it took at least 35 seconds, so not less than half a minute, but very easy to do so I'm not going to make a fuss about that 😄

Mollyollydolly · 22/04/2024 15:37

Thank you for that, didn't know that form existed. Have tweeted it out to the Twitter tervan too.

Yes, I was very pleasantly surprised to see this.

I was struck by how well it told the pertinent points about the mis/disinformation to complement the article that went with it... and the contrast of Hannah Barnes saying on multiple occasions that the BBC didn't do any online pieces to go with her Newsnight work (it had existed in a silo).

Perhaps things are slowly moving in the right direction at the BBC?🤞🤞

We still need to see the proper and full involvement of the Health team (Hugh Pym) though.

I hope the BBC are going to improve their coverage, I thought that was a good response to the misinformation re Cass over the past week.

Me too 🤞 They've got a long way to go but it's hopefully marks a welcome change of editorial direction from the barrage of "lived experience" stories of distressed trans-identified teenage boys who wanted faster ages to experimental medical interventions.

Perhaps this is another weathervane idea (similar to the HIGNFY toe in the water) to see how it plays out on social media? If so, I hope they take heart from the X stats that it's a good idea to do more of this (and by "of this" I mean accurately and impartially reporting the news). Nearly 1.4k likes so far and way more reposts than quote tweets... I'm not sure how well small enclaves of the BBC normally do on their stats but I bet it's not that high normally.

Here's your aptly titled thread as a reminder of where we were at the start of last week:
