TRAs don’t want trans people to talk to journalists about DIY HRT… I wonder why?

From Instagram today:

”I have been reliably informed Guardian journalists are snooping around asking for trans people to talk to them about DIY HRT. They are particularly looking for under 18s doing DIY. Shouldn’t need to be said but. Do. Not. Engage. Spread widely do not engage. We need this notice spread out via every grassroots support group and social circle in the country. Urgent. If they get even one to take part it becomes a national conversation. Top alert.”

For the uninitiated, DIY HRT is manufactured by small suppliers (some in their own home) and sold online, with no safety or hygiene standards, prescription, regulation or oversight. The packaging I’ve seen for one brand was purple holographic card stock printed with anime girls on it and “Keep away from parents” on the box.

Some trans people who have bought DIY hormones have complained the bottles they were sent were contaminated with what appeared to be hair.

Why on Earth would trans activists not want this to be a part of the national conversation about the standards of medical care given to trans identified children, I wonder 🤔. Truly a mystery for the ages.

HRT is the wrong term for this. I am on HRT because I am a menopausal woman who needs to REPLACE the HORMONE my body is no longer making. So I whack an estrogen patch on my arse.

Men who think they would be happier as women are not replacing anything as their bodies never made it in the first place. They are choosing to use cross sex hormones. They are not using "DIY HRT".

@DirtyDuchess

The TRA post that was posted late at night, reported, hidden fairly quickly by Nightwatch and deleted this morning by MN. I can't reproduce it here but it was a vile suggestion for what the poster thought you should do.

"Kids we've hooked on drugs, do not talk about your dealer and how you have been hooked on drugs. Otherwise the public might start asking difficult questions about your dealer and the effects of the drugs which are unregulated and unmonitored and how you might be irreversibly harmed by us drug dealers. Just say no!"

DirtyDuchess · 20/04/2024 17:02

Sounds like a nice post and I'm sad I missed it. Back to my post that must have prompted this, where do we report people selling illegal drugs from the UK?

One time I heard my voice on a recording and cringed at how squeaky it was compared with the voice of the other woman on the recording. I mentioned this in passing to someone in my pro-trans circles and he asked me if I'd ever considered taking T to make my voice deeper!

I used to have a very high voice (and with my accent I sounded exactly like Julie Burchill!). Last year I had an operation on my thyroid that paralysed a vocal nerve and now I can't do high sounds at all. I bloody hate it! When I talk to my toddler grandchild I can't do that mimicking back that we naturally do to validate their speech, I can't sing her nursery songs because my voice is stone flat, I can't even make a proper questioning sound so everything I say sounds like a command. Worst of all I sound like a teenage girl on testosterone.

Revel in your squeaky voice, it has a million brilliant uses!

Did you know Pikachu is a 58 year old woman?

I am content with the knowledge that DH will never beat my pikachu impression.

I just had to find a pikachu video to see what the voice is like, 😂I was never that squeaky! But I can do a good Eartha Kitt impression now! (Or Bernard Manning on a bad day 😂)

@NotbloodyGivingupYet no, thankfully not chasing me around threads! The behaviour of that particular poster was being discussed afterwards and it transpired that they had been on multiple different threads (that I hadn't seen) at the same time.

@Ereshkigalangcleg I didn't see the particularly bad comment but the poster on this thread quoted me, commented about my supposed lack of knowledge on trans healthcare and asked me if I even cared about people's health. Obviously I knew it was a trolling post but I thought that provocation warranted a specific response, just to highlight how ridiculous that position is to take. It's a shame that the comments all got taken away in some ways, as Operation Let Them Speak is very helpful for any lurkers to get an idea of the "both sides toxicity".

This particular subject - about the black market side of "trans healthcare" seems to have hit quite a nerve. I guess there will be lots of people making lots of money from it.

The post the poster made to the other poster was an instant ban post.

The post they made to you was not, it's not uncommon for people to post like that and usually it would be deleted in the morning, but not always.

The reason the post was hidden and then deleted so quickly was the post they made to Duchess.
