Sally Hines et al have written a letter…
https://uncommon-scents.blogspot.com/2024/04/letter-from-academics-concerned-about.html?m=1

Worth a read, both for the quality of its argument and for the list of signatories.

When your letter against the Cass Review is signed by Andrew Wakefield, then some alarm bells ought to go off that you are on the wrong side

Hane Htut Maung is on the GMC register without a licence to practice. Search just using the surname (Maung) and you will find him. Even those who have let their registration lapse should be listed, though that may not be the case if it lapsed a very long time ago. Certainly anyone who has been registered in the last 20 years should be there.

Just seen someone on X saying he added a false name to the letter as a test. #89. He could do this because there was no validation! https://twitter.com/UOzkirimli/status/1779816617611858031?t=acqoKCR3IhBmLUWCa3PH5A&s=19

Thanks Xis, it’s obvs more sensitive a search than I realised.

Seems strange that GenderGP would employ a licensed doctor as an ‘Applied Philosopher and Clinical Ethicist’ when they seemingly don’t have enough doctors to adequately monitor blood test results or write prescriptions on time…

… actually, scratch that. Employing someone to justify the harms the Webberleys have caused is probably a top priority of the organisation!

Mirabai · 15/04/2024 11:48

One thing that stands out is how poorly written the letter is. It’s not written by academics of high calibre.

Xis · 15/04/2024 11:49

He’s registered but NOT licensed to practice.

Xis · 15/04/2024 11:49

That’s to KellieJaysLapdog.

April Preston MA, University of Manchester

That's April Preston from the Lib Dems. She has stood for local elections and is an elected member of the LDs federal board. Also of the Lib Dems Radical Association. Also heavily involved in the Natalie Bird affair.
Quell surprise.

The LDs STILL haven't come out with a party line on the Cass Review...

FuckOffYokeofOpression · 15/04/2024 11:51

I find this behaviour really shocking. Academics should have standards around bias, transparency, evidence and ethics.

The review was commissioned by the NHS, so presumably entirely funded by tax payers, to review evidence to inform policy around some of the most vulnerable people (children) in this country. The letter as I've seen it expresses opinions but also makes unfounded and very serious allegations around the quality of research. Academic activists have been laying the grounds to discredit this report for months.

This is way beyond to rights to freedom of speech. I am hoping this is investigated and that there are consequences for signatories commensurate with the mischief intended to be caused here.

theDudesmummy · 15/04/2024 11:51

@KellieJaysLapdog the person says they are a MRCPsych, if that is true they have to have been practicing as a doctor for several years after qualification.

Auto correct made my previous comment read ‘poo studies phobic’ which seems quite apt actually.

Poo studies is spot on!

Does it need to be investigated?

I get the impression that, barring the indignant howling of gender ideologues on Twitter and the worried families of trans identifying children, most people are saying, "well, no shit Sherlock" in response to Cass.

Totally unfounded without any supporting evidence or coherent, systematic analysis of what they hold to be the flaws of the research.

You can tell from the poor quality of the letter, the poor quality of the thought behind it.

I mean poo quality of course.

PorkChopJohnson · 15/04/2024 12:07

They are not so much challenging the Cass review, more like ineffectually flicking an old rubber band in its general direction.

theDudesmummy · 15/04/2024 12:07

They have not completed their specialist training as they are not on the specialist register at the GMC. And they don't appear as a member on the RCPsych's register.

Quell surprise.

I think she was also responsible for targeting a man in an LGB Alliance hat at a Pride type event. The police had to rescue him after he got mobbed.

Interesting! Thanks!

Here’s the LinkedIn CV again for tidiness purposes.

Is she still involved in Autistic Society of Greater Manchester?

ResisterRex · 15/04/2024 12:27

I'd assume that academics can almost do what they like because free speech.

Except that when it's women raising the alarm, that doesn't seem to fly...hmmm...

She's one of the central figures in the nasty little cliche in the LDs who have people in key federal positions.

They are influential and 100% will be the reason the LDs are keeping their mouths shut.

I think they were the ones welcoming Amy Chanellor too.

Her name pops up constantly.

Believe so.

KnitFastDieWarm · 15/04/2024 13:02

I have a PhD in an arts subject and have met more of these types of people than I care to remember. Sadly, seeing a list of academia-adjacent idiots who think that reading Foucault for a few years means they understand the ins and outs of the medical review process is unsurprising to me.

I loved my studies, they were fascinating and useful, but I wouldn’t start claiming they gave me the medical authority to influence children’s healthcare, because that would be utterly, laughably absurd.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/04/2024 13:09

A a scientist I can only say I hope the pendulum is swinging against that Foucault.

OT: I've only just noticed the drop-down option from the 3 dots (desktop) to see posts by a username on that thread. Other matters aside, it's going to make it easier to track particular topic discussion within a thread.
