'Over three decades, politicians of all parties have outsourced power to so-called independent institutions. They were meant to take the politics out of decision-making but have themselves become politicised often with little to no ministerial oversight. They are no longer impartial. As politicians ceded control, many institutions became captured by a minority of ideological activists. When ministers raise the alarm or intervene this is demonised by Labour MPs such as Yvette Cooper as engaging in “culture wars”.'

...

''It is also time for an in-depth review of decision-making across the public sector. How is it that senior leaders ignore the law and allow groups like Stonewall to make up what it should be?''

Gagging of the brave has let gender ideologues seize control

Public institutions are meant to be independent and free from politics but senior leaders ignore the law and allow ideological groups to misrepresent it

Atkins: Since 2022, a series of important changes have been made [thanks those working on that]...notes the two services set up and the ending of routine prescription of PBs, new plans for those aged 17...share Cass's concerns that drs who subscribe to gender ideology will try to get round it. Let me be clear - licences can be revoked and clinicians struck off...

ArabellaScott · 15/04/2024 17:33

'this must now stop' - Go for it Atkins.

Atkins says it's "deplorable" that the adult clinics didn't work work Cass

I'm catching up, Resister, if you hear an echo that'll be me! 😂

focusing solely on sex based definitions has a negative impact on women

Hello! think you many have lost your way. Mumsnet has conveniently labelled this forum Sex and Gender discussion.

There is a feminism chat board for those who dont want to talk about sex and gender.

Its like going to a vegitarian restuarant and demanding meat.

Talking of meat there is an interesting reference to posters being like a dog with a bone that has been posted on another thread that has parallels to this.

Might be of interest to read on from this post onwards https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5047638-labour-infighting-over-trans-issues-reignited-by-cass-review?page=19&reply=134552653

EasternStandard · 15/04/2024 17:38

It looks like the seven adult services will provide data

Imnobody4 · 15/04/2024 17:38

AdamRyan · 15/04/2024 17:28

No.
I'm suggesting that focusing solely on sex based definitions has a negative impact on women because it enables a lot of the crap facing women to carry on while useless politicians like Badenoch pontificate and navel gaze over "definition of woman".

That statement re: Cass was a masterclass of saying nothing.

Well that's a bit of a straw man. Nobody, I emphasise nobody on this board is doing that. This is one specific thread. It is possible to see things from different perspectives, you really should try it. We have got the message you hate the Tories but I don't know what else you've got to contribute.

Why not start a thread on the subject you think is most pressing, because I haven't clue what you think. Of course I might be tempted to come on and derail your thread.

JFC. I'm just watching. Her response to Cass' point about the impact of violent porn on girls is to recommend "evidence based care". Confused

How about dealing with the violent porn Tories? Confused

ResisterRex · 15/04/2024 17:41

Streeting doesn't get it about waiting lists. The report shows why they're long - because children (mostly GIRLS) were being referred directly and bypassing safeguarding and other assessments

EasternStandard · 15/04/2024 17:42

I’m so glad for Cass

It’s finally put children at the centre. Not adult men

EasternStandard · 15/04/2024 17:44

She’s right about Streeting and Labour

Well no that isn't what she said as the Hansard will make clear

I'm utterly unconvinced by Wes Streeting's recent U turn. I think he's been designated kite flier.

Literally the words that came out of her mouth Shock

I'm watching Streeting now and as the mother of an ND child he's making much more sense regarding NHS treatment and the complete impossibility of getting any form of help

ResisterRex · 15/04/2024 17:47

No. Not like you're saying. I rewound it.

ResisterRex · 15/04/2024 17:48

This might be it

FlakyPoet · 15/04/2024 17:48

I got goosebumps with her rebuttal of Streeting.

Atkins is looking at legislative options on closing loopholes, says "nothing is off the table"

The problem with this is that they will have to legislate very fast to do this sssuming the next election is by January. I do think that a robust response is good. But reality dictates that as soon as an election is called, all the legislative programme dies with that government and it is up to the next one. This is in part why I am critical of Badenoch and Atkins (though she has said some good things today). Basically it is too late. Neither of them got behind this early enough to make these legislative changes apparently needed. It really does matter in Parliament who backs something and how many drivers it has. There are two terms left in Parliament to legislate with. That is not enough to pass a bill. It might be enough for some statutory instruments.

I started a thread a while back today about a very brave rape victim. Noone replied Sad

I think the latest election we can have will be 2025, if I was Rishi I'd be waiting it out until then

bombastix · 15/04/2024 23:57

It's still not enough time to legislate if that is what Victoria Atkins wants to do. I thought did well today but ultimately Cass is looking like it will be implemented by a Labour Government. And the results of a review of adult care will be the same. Not that these are bad things!

Atkins should put reviews and processes into place with the idea she may not be back in. I really don't want to see op eds or awareness raising from Conservatives, they can actually start processes and evidence gathering now. Unlike legislation, this stuff survives governments changing because it is a relatively independent process. And while governments can ignore reviews they tend not to on public health and where there are clear risks. Atkins in other words should leave a very public and very full in tray for her successor.
