Susan Evans is trying to get a Judical Review to set aside the registration by the CQC of Gender Plus Hormone Clinic

Susan Evans is gardening in the usual place.

From her introduction:

"The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has registered Gender Plus Hormone Clinic to provide hormone treatments to 16 and 17-year-old children.

This paves the way for other private clinics to be registered, which would offer controversial medical treatments with lifelong consequences to vulnerable teenagers. The decision of the CQC to license a private clinic, creates a significant risk of a two tier approach, with less protection for those who seek help from the private sector. This further risks undermining the work of the Cass review for NHSE practice.

I want the court to set aside the registration by the CQC of Gender Plus Hormone Clinic to provide hormone treatment for teenagers. I also hope that this litigation will prevent the registration of other private clinics providing this controversial treatment. I want to ensure that those under 18 years old, do not suffer irreversible, lifelong harms both physical and psychological, from taking a controversial hormonal treatment which is not evidenced as safe or effective."

This is Sue Evans https://twitter.com/sueevansprotect who helped bring what was happening with puberty blockers to public attention.

Thanks

Thanks OP. The CQC is of course a Stonewall champion. An outrageous bias for an allegedly professional regulator to sign up to a lobby group that promotes the transitioning of children.

I didn't realise this. If CQC senior management are so compromised in their thinking, what else are they getting wrong?

AutumnCrow · 08/04/2024 22:37

Bloody hell - I'm sick of the actual government not stepping in with these wildly unethical situations, especially given that it'll be well aware of what's in the final Cass report

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/04/2024 22:49

Hopefully the CQC being signed up to a trans lobby group will work against them when they try to argue in court they're only acting in the interests of vulnerable children?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 08/04/2024 22:54

JRs are difficult to win, but this is worth doing. Have donated and will be interested to know the grounds.

Just about everything. They are dreadful.

Is this that Gender GP ghoul again? Why is she so utterly obsessed with sterilising teenagers who can't consent meaningfully? It can't just be about the money? Does she have a trans child?

Will the Cass report render this type of thing dead in the water, though? I mean if Cass comes down as heavily on the gender bollox as she's expected to, then surely all this giving hormones to kids will disappear?

Or maybe I'm being naive.

No. This is Gender Plus, ex GIDS staff who are licensed to prescribe, when the prescribing staff member is not even a doctor, if I remember correctly.

Are the conclusions of the Cass Report binding? Does everyone have to abide by its conclusions or will it be another case of “recommendations” that GI Ideologues will brazenly ignore?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/04/2024 07:11

I fear it will be recommendations so the shrieks and wails from activists will so shouty and loud that only those with insight will realise the impllcations?
It will need more court cases before many professions / organisations feel the financial consequences from encouraging children below the age of consent down a pathway to sterilisation etc.

The Laming Inquiry led to the (supplementary) Children Act 2004, with an associated cascade of obligatory safeguarding training.

The Cass Inquiry needs to lead to a supplementary Children and Gender Woo Act, and associated obligatory safeguarding training, but this govt haven’t got the mettle to push it through.

And Labour no longer has either. Whatever you think of Blair, he got the job done in 2004, despite having some less than stellar education secretaries over the years. Starmer & Co … not so sure.

100%.

This should really be a police matter.

Obviously this is an important and necessary cause, but it's absurd how poor our public bodies are on the subject.

teawamutu · 09/04/2024 08:38

Off to dig, thank you. I know GC causes haven't had much success at JR, but the sunlight has been priceless.

ChristinaXYZ · 09/04/2024 10:26

The Cass Review won't be legally binding. And even if the government says it accepts the findings (which a conservative governement might well accept) unless it is backed by new laws or statutory requirements then ideological people in schools and health care settings will just go their own sweet way and take with then unsure, uninformed and cowardly those who are just going with the flow because "be kind". And nothing will change. And then Labour will get in.

That's why legal avenues such as this are so important. As @teawamutu says win or lose there is much sunlight.

There's a danger that with all the focus on the Cass Report that Susan Evans gardening for this important Judicial Review will be lost sight off. It is not going up as fast as some and if the initial sum is not met then none of the money will be passed on. Just over two weeks to go and barely a quarter of the way there yet. Please share IRL if you can.

"Dr Hilary Cass has expressed concern that private transgender clinics’ assessment of children is not to a high enough standard in the wake of her landmark review.

The paediatrician has made a series of recommendations to the NHS about how it treats children who believe they are transgender and warned that extreme care should be taken in the treatment of those aged under 25.

The remit of her review does not extend to private clinics, but the report did find that GPs felt “pressured to prescribe hormones” by patients who had seen a private doctor.

Dr Cass said “everybody should be getting the same standard of care”, while campaigners have called for an end to the “cowboy clinics” that are not bound by the NHS ban on puberty blockers.

“I do have concerns about private provision which is not providing the level of assessment that I’m recommending in the NHS,” she told BBC’s Today programme."

I'm hoping now that the Government will act outwith this JR. There should be no need for women to have to crowd fund for the next obvious and necessary step in children's safeguarding to happen ffs. What a fucking shower in government right now.

SoupDragonsFriend · 10/04/2024 17:59

Is this the correct one?

I saw that she mentioned on her TwitterX that she first raised concerns 20 years ago.

AutumnCrow · 10/04/2024 20:14

This is such an obvious risk area now, with flashing lights on top of it - the funnelling of kids and their consenting parents into the hands of the few remaining doctors & prescribers unscrupulous enough to carry on with these practices under current circumstances.
