...I've seen it all now!

I wonder if I'll receive a letter offering me a prostate exam??

I have no words...

It’s all happy buzz words and catchy slogans. And pretty flags and a change to scream at people.

OP I find it concerning when ideology makes its way into medical treatment (e.g. countries restricting abortion or contraception access for religious reasons rather than medical reasons or refusing to research and treat HIV because of homophobia) so I can understand why you would find this nonsensical.

Receiving letters like this also leaves me wondering what else the NHS does to appease ideologies which reduces my confidence in a medical system that can so easily be persuaded to lie about fundamental aspects of mammalian life on earth.

I agree.
I'm sick of all the pandering to the feelings of men who like to say they're women and women who like to say they're men (and the feelings of those of either sex who like to say they're non-binary).
Equivocating language like this should have no place in medical services and treatment, or any science for that matter. It muddies the waters. Clarity and simplicity of language is vital.

If a woman who says she's something else looks at a leaflet that says 'all women should get regular cervical smears' and decides not to go in a fit of pique because she doesn't like the word woman, frankly that's her choice and her lookout IMO.

This seems exemplary to me - it says it targets women, and then it adds "and people with a cervix" to cover anyone with female anatomy that may not be able to acknowledge it right now.

Can you explain what your issue is with this communication? It seems to tick all the boxes people here have been asking for - are we missing something?

MarkWithaC · 08/04/2024 15:23

Women ARE the people with a cervix, like it or not.

Skyellaskerry · 08/04/2024 15:35

Could it have said “Women (including transmen)”?

SparklyBracelet · 08/04/2024 15:54

Just putting it out there but what about a former woman who would have a cervix but has had some sort of male appendage created. How could this person attend for cervical screening?

It’s not about feelings - it’s about biology. Being a woman (or not) isn’t about how you ‘feel’ (what does a man or woman feel like anyway?).

This is potentially life saving screening. If you are pig headed enough to stamp your feet and say ‘nope nope nope, NOT a woman’ then you need help. Would you also demand to be called for a prostate exam?

Exactly this.

You cannot be a former woman. You are born a female, grow up & become an Adult Human Female.

If as a woman you get a piece of flesh made into a faux penis this is attached. You’d still have your cervix.

I have had a radical hysterectomy, I no longer have a cervix. I don’t require cervical screening.

Not all women have a cervix but only women have a cervix. No man does.

I'm no expert but I believe they remove the cervix when they burn the vagina shut (or perform a v-nectomy as gender identity believers term it). Those with a strong stomach can learn about the procedures used for people trying to look like the other sex on the SRS and GRS thread on KF. Those performed on (mostly young) women seem more barbaric and less successful (either in form or function) to me, but eye of the beholder I suppose.
