In our house, caused a massive and long overdue discussion at lunchtime thanks to the coverage on R4. And as a result my trans-adjacent teenager is has now assured me that she's not thinking of any surgery or hormones in the future, and has also, I think, started to understand that he/they pronouns may be a sign of internalised misogyny rather than being cool/queer/a bit different.

I will sleep a lot easier tonight.

JK Rowling is such a hero and a great role model for girls.

We have been living in 1984 and JKR, instead of saying 'Do it to Julia' has said 'Do it to me'. And they don't dare. It is unbelievably brave. (Also the entire reason for Harry Potter's survival - his mother shielded him.)

But didn't, to start with. Brilliant strategist that she is.

If she had, the TRAs would have been able to position the for-womens- rigjts thing as one rich woman's hobbyhorse.

Instead, she let the individual women make their stands and create case law, publicing and backing them on SM but leaving the crowdfunding and the resulting legal wins to the rest of us. How easy it would have been for her to pick up the legal tabs for all those cases; and how easy for the TRAs to have dissed them as bought verdicts!

By leaving it to us fund these tribunals via crowdfunding, she allowed it to be demonstrated that this is a grassroots movement and not a JKR project.

And that means that she is now finally in a position to use her financial clout legitimately.

She’s fantastic. I bloody love her. My teens feel correct pronouns are important, but we did have a conversation about prisons and sports and how women can’t really identify out of oppression.

i think there’s enough sunlight now that things are getting clearer.

Due to the media coverage it has brought, I expect to be having a lot more conversations with friends who were wobbling on the fence... And I expect I won't have to be the initiator.

Most of the young women I work with have No Fucking Idea of the problem here and the threat to their rights.

JKR had probably ensured many conversations like @badgeronthedrums have been had or will happen this week.

I do want to add my thoughts of what an amazing woman she is and also my thanks to those already mentioned here.

More so, as I have MS and although I'm not in Scotland (thankfully, so far but living in Wales we're not far behind with the idiocy), I deeply appreciate her support for people with MS.

I've also had the experience of living in a DV shelter and can only imagine how afraid I'd be if a man had been allowed in so I also deeply appreciate her support for women there, too.

Amazing and very clever woman with a love for words that she's passed on through her books to all the children and grandchildren in my family for which I am deeply grateful as it's helped them so much.
