Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I'll just drop this here and have a hearty laugh at the fact that Humdinger had more complaints against him than did JKR:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13267387/More-3-000-new-hate-crime-complaints-Police-Scotland-Minister-Humza-Yousafs-rant-white-people-Scotland-JK-Rowlings-ten-post-thoughts-gender.html

Since the controversial legislation was rolled out on Monday almost 4,000 complaints are said to have been made to Police Scotland, with the force reportedly dealing with 60 complaints on average per hour.

Police sources have now shed light on the nature of the hate crime complaints revealing that the majority relate to the First Minister as well as JK Rowling.

'A lot of those complaints were about Humza Yousaf, on the same complaint about his parliamentary rant,' an insider told the Sun. 'JK Rowling has had some, but not as many as Humza Yousaf.'

😂

It's amusing that the Hate Bill, which hatefully excluded misogyny as a hate crime, has now put a very definitive nail in the coffin of TWAW. Not even the SNP - late of the doomed Self-id law - will prosecute for saying a transwoman is a man. Which allows everyone, everywhere in the UK, to say that loud and often.

TW in the women's changing room? Officially not hateful to call him out. TW on your rugby team? Not hateful to call it out. On your hospital ward? That there is a man and I'm allowed to point it out along with my safety concerns.

The SNP have very publicly let it be known that TWAM.

With such success that it can only be the result of a brilliant long-game double-bluff campaign. If you had set out to achieve this by design, you could not have done such a sterling job.

(Or so I would suggest, just to really annoy some folk)

No NCHI is to be recorded against either JKR or Humza. 🤭

Scotland's hate laws neutered
Rainbowshit · 03/04/2024 17:49

Now I would like to hear their explanation for the inconsistency with their treatment of Murdo Frazer. 🤔

turbonerd · 03/04/2024 19:34

ErrolTheDragon · 03/04/2024 08:11

That may well be a large part of the motivation for it.
But I think JKR has also blown a hole in that - speaking the truth isn't 'hate', mocking a bit isn't 'hate' - so I'm doubly grateful to her.

Can you explain why it is a blasphemy law under cover?
And in whose interest such a law may be?

Someone upthread mentioned islamophobia. We have our fair share of Quran burning in Scandinavia, or had, as it us now banned to burn religious texts in Denmark at least.

Sinister indeed.

mrshoho · 03/04/2024 19:39

JKR's work is the epitome of genuine altruism. She seeks no personal gain from using her influence other than solidarity and for the greater good to women and children in Scotland, the UK and I would say it's no exaggeration but also to the entire world. There are very very few people I could say this about that have lived through my lifetime. I am truly thankful to her. We are witnessing something so remarkable. 💐

NonPlayerCharacter · 03/04/2024 19:43

"...effectively challenged police to arrest her..."

My italics. Like it was sort of underhand or merely an implication.

She literally said: "I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment" and added the hashtag #ArrestMe 🤣

JK Rowling has saved Scotland from a full-on descent into a 1984 Big Brother hellscape. She is not, and has never been, anti-trans. JK is a liberal-thinking, left-leaning women’s rights campaigner and understands only too well why sex matters. She’s a survivor of male abuse so she knows exactly what a man is, and why women are vulnerable in certain situations. JK’s intervention on X was a bold and selfless move designed to protect women and their right to speak the truth. It wasn’t designed to be hateful to trans people. Thanks to JK, women can now say 2+2=4 without fearing a knock on the door from the rozzers. This means they can also discuss their sex-based rights and needs without being accused of “hate”. Clear language is needed, and civil discussions, to navigate a way through gender ideology and find solutions that are fair for all concerned and not detrimental to women. JK, you are a wonderful ally and a voice for all those women who dare not speak up. I hope that the left-wing media soon come to understand your heart has always been in the right place. 💕

It's fabulous what she's done, for women and all humanity, really. Does make me think, it's shame that a few more of the rich and famous (obviously, there are a few exceptions) don't seem able to stand with her and, well, tell the truth.

Yes I’m particularly interested in how they will deal with this inconsistency. If the first minister can say what he likes and get away with it but a despised Tory gets a nchi recorded against him it will really start to look like a politically motivated move.

Well done that woman. That is courage, integrity and sisterhood right there

❤️

Regardless of gender issues, the notion that we have a law where people - including the police - literally don't know what is and isn't lawful under it is insane.

Yes every law might have some edge cases but this one has that vagueness and subjectivity at its very heart.

You cannot police by consent with such laws. I'm amazed it ever got passed like that.

Arbitrary laws are one characteristic of a totalitarian state.

I mean to a certain extent we already have them - the CPS (no idea about Scotland) can (and have) prevent a private criminal prosecution if it's "not in the public interest". But you don't want to be too obvious, really.

justasking111 · 04/04/2024 14:10

If you go on some YouTube sites as my husband does relating to arguments between police officers and members of the public who do actually know the law and film encounters You'd be slack jawed.

It's entertaining but shocking.

I knew a solicitor who did cell duty at night, he'd read through the charge sheet and interview they were both full of holes. He'd be so annoyed by this ignorant approach by the police which meant he had to get real oiks released. Because they'd fckd up. They were back on the streets because of Muppets

I wouldn't. But I've known a fucktonne of police over the years. Which is why I don't have the fawning respect of people who like the idea of the police because they assume they will never be on the wrong end of them.

And because there are some thick as mince officers, who genuinely don't comprehend the law around, the more cynical can get away with it too.

However (see: teachers) the tsunami of revisions every working day make it impossible to keep up. So impossible that it can only be by design.
