Surely this is illegal.

Wow.

Internal job applicants at @stjohnambulance are asked to share their pronouns.

If they refuse, text pops up chastising them and pressuring them to “reconsider”.

If they still refuse, they are told to explain why they won’t share them.

This is ideological harassment

Their policy states that if someone objects to sharing toilets or changing rooms with someone that is trans they will be “educated” and if they still refuse they’ll face disciplinary proceedings for harassment.

There is no accomodation that can be made with this mindset. The ideologues must be driven out.

I hope they have deep pockets

A Polish friend talked to his parents about the language and terminology that TRA and the generally "woke" use. They replied that it was exactly that sort of language that the Communist government had used. It was done to change people's thinking by changing the language. The intolerance to disagreement was also familiar to them.

Another poster said somewhere volunteers aren't covered as employees by the Equality Act, but I thought I saw ECHR say they could be covered as service users. Charities offer
volunteers a service.

Say what?

A badge was pictured on another thread. It included fe/fi/fo/fum and bish/bash/bosh, wile/e/coyote and fe/fi/farce.

Would love to see a volunteer wearing any or all of those.

So you think pronouns should be based not on sex, but on the perception of it?

That’s how I use third person pronouns. If I wasn’t sure, I would probably try to avoid using a pronoun, or use "they". That way, I’m not lying.

With my son, I know full well what sex he is. Trying to call my son “she” causes extremely distressing cognitive dissonance, is a deliberate lie, and probably cements his late onset trans identity. I find it hard to believe that this is in his interests; it is almost always (I actually think always) in a person’s best interests to accept physical reality. He knows he is a man. Somehow he thinks it is possible that taking oestrogen will be a good idea. This is not in line with his previous type of thinking (very sceptical of “woo” and any kind of religion) but he has embraced the incoherent trans ideology. It is his girlfriend who has made a big thing of “misgendering” and “deadnaming”.

By the way, the use of “deadnaming” is incredibly hurtful and disrespectful to parents. This trans ideology is not at all kind.

It’s not a service for volunteers. They’re the ones providing the service.

They’ll make reasonable adjustments, but you can’t be a first aider if you can’t pass the training (disability). And they won’t make allowances for GC.

They’re in financial difficulty and I understand they’ve made a lot of people redundant this year (and more to come). Whole thing is a shambles. I saw it coming and got out when I could.

What is the legal status of your volunteers?

Some volunteers have a contract to personally do work for you and receive more than just their out-of-pocket expenses in exchange.
If this applies to your volunteers, then they may be protected as if they are employed by you, and you should read the Equality and Human Rights Commission guide to what equality law means for employers. Information at the front of this guide tells you how you can get hold of this.
If this does not apply to your volunteers, then it is possible that, when you are providing a volunteering opportunity for someone, this counts as providing them with a service.
This means that the rest of this guide applies to your volunteers just as much as it does to your service users or clients. You should avoid unlawful discrimination in how you treat volunteers.

ETA: tbh, I'm still no clearer on the status for SJA and a number of other organisations. Maybe there are some examples somewhere. However, it would seem to me that quite a number of volunteering opportunities (like working in a charity shop) would count as providing a service to the charity/organisation.

There are no volunteer contracts and they only pay expenses.

Boombatty · 29/03/2024 13:38

Imagine if they asked what your religion was and if you didn't select one asked you to justify why you don't have a religion.

MarieDeGournay · 29/03/2024 14:00

I emailed my local animal charity with a quick question about donating stuff.
The respondent thoughtfully told me her pronouns at the end of her reply.
I can imagine people coming in to rescue a dog and asking 'what are their pronouns?'🐩
This is the first time I've ever seen pronouns in an email. Marked on calendar 😒
(I'm in Ireland BTW!

So another example of men being told it’s their right to invade women’s spaces and any woman who feels uncomfortable with this will be treated like a fucking criminal.

And being sent for reeducation if you said the wrong religion!

Everyone is referred to in the third person. You can base yours on your sex.

Hi dad

That is great news!

What pronouns can I use to express my sex is female?

The words used to be "she" and "her" but those have been appropriated to refer to gender identity now and can mean either sex, so what are the pronouns that refer to sex please?

TIA

I'm so glad that I've had the luck to work for old school bosses. I hope that continues until retirement.

Me too. Though we were recently taken over by a US company so I’m a bit concerned the whole ‘be kind’ culture might start creeping in.

My current managers are in their 50’s no nonsense types who just want us to log on do our jobs and go home. Suits me just fine
