But only if she "gives up control of the trans issue to the Conservative right"

https://www.lbc.co.uk/politics/mordaunt-sunak/

Some polling has shown she's the only person with a chance of boosting the polls.

So what do we think? Do we trust Mordaunt to do a better job on protecting women's rights than Sunak?

Mordaunt lined up to replace Sunak - but only if she gives up control of trans issues to Tory right

Penny Mordaunt is being lined up by the Tory right to replace Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister - but only if she gives up control over social policy to the party fringes.

Keeping potential rivals close is politics, especially when your aim is party unity. (Keir and Angela?)
I don’t follow politics closely other than women’s issues. Kemi has been honest and consistent on women’s issues. No fence sitting awkwardness.

I have been assuming she is a conviction politician and that I would not agree with her on other things. However she deserves acknowledgment for what she has done for women. It is good for us to have a strong clear voice within cabinet.

How come she didn't win the leadership contest and they went for Truss instead?

Because Kemi wasn't put as an option to the party members.
It was Truss or Sunak as decided by the MPs.

Party members didn't get to vote for her!

Given sunak isnt a very popular politician, and isnt very politically astute, why does his opinion of another politician hold mych weight?

Also Rory Stewart gossiping with Alistair Campbell isnt the most trustworthy of information sources.

I listen to the Rest is Politics and on a recent episode Rory Stewart said he had heard from current cabinet members that Sunak is not a Badenoch fan, thinks she's a bit useless (I'm paraphrasing, listen to it for precise phrasing) but keeps her close to pacify the right wing.

I found that pretty interesting.

She seems to have a pretty flexible view of the truth so I'm not a fan. Honesty and consistency is important to me.

I wouldn't say that Starmer is honest or consistent.

What does that have to do with what Rory Stewart said about Badenoch? Confused

This whole thread is about the Conservatives

She's often untruthful so I don't trust her

E.g. https://www.ft.com/content/373b7ab9-2a51-4db3-a0f5-2d021155c778

Also the recent post office spat and the "consulted extensively with LGBT groups" untruth.

She's gone very quiet since the pist office furore so I wonder if something is afoot and that's why allegiances appear to have switched to Mordaunt.

Canada contradicts Kemi Badenoch claims on ‘ongoing’ trade talks

Fine, though I disagree. I don’t really follow Canadian trade talks but I have followed issues around rights and protections of women and girls. Kemi has been articulate and consistent. So have others such as Rosie Duffield.

In contrast there are a lot of politicians who are saying things about women having penises that they surely cannot believe. (Indeed I know a prospective Labour candidate for a winnable seat who does not believe TWAW, but is open that she can never admit this in public.)

I don’t see much cross over between Badenoch and Mordaunt support within the Tory ranks. The problem may be down to political podcasters trying to ensure they have enough new content, so have started flying some curious kites.

AdamRyan · 28/03/2024 16:03

I assume that they have the right legal checking so Stewart wouldn't have said it if it were not accurate. Anyway I thought it was interesting. I always find the political machinations fascinating.
