Thread for anyone attending or following the live stream.

A variation on waiting for the conference host to start…

For someone who writes about amazing bodies it appears that some parts aren’t quite as amazing after all - so much so they can easily be removed and discarded.

I wonder if trans would be so popular amongst teen girls if it wasn’t near impossible to get a breast reduction on the NHS? And if eating disorders would be rarer?

If it were affordable/accessible to take a D+ down to a B or so I imagine a lot of young adult woman would go for it (I realise this has implications for future breastfeeding, so I’m not necessarily advocating for it, just having a think out loud).

When I look at ‘Top Surgery’ results it’s clear that a good percentage of the girls and women opting for it had breasts large enough to be a daily inconvenience, and if they’ve appeared rather rapidly and you can remember a time before them, I can definitely see how the desire to be rid of them could be a massive motivating factor.

Pipe dream, I know, but wouldn't it be great if adult men and teenage boys stopped sniggering, leering etc at very young girls and women and making them feel like shit. What a world we're living in when instead of males having their behaviour challenged females go off seeking surgery to change their appearance.

TheClogLady · 24/03/2024 09:34

I totally agree that men behaving would be the ideal, but some of the inconveniences of having large breasts are nothing to do with men.

eg I can imagine for some autistic girls the sensory experience is excruciating and for sporty girls they can affect performance.
Plus back pain, underneath sweat etc.

It’s a big outward-facing change that boys don’t have to deal with. No wonder some girls want to tape them down or wear binders (which seem like torture devices to me!)

Re Dr Ronx
2021 Pink News
“Dr Ronx lifted the lid on the multi-billion dollar health industry, which peddles products that promise to “boost” or supercharge our immune system – a fairly hot topic due to the current pandemic. They looked at what – if any – science backed up their companies’ claims. Many people celebrated the fact Dr Roux wore a trans flag pin during the episode“

As if trans health care is not a multi-million dollar health industry with not only questionable, but, where children are concerned, potentially deeply harmful consequence’s.

Dr Ronx Ikharia is the trans, non-binary presenter making waves

Dr Ronx presented The Unshockable Dr Ronx on BBC Three. We decided it was high time to take a closer look at this LGBT+ icon and their work.

ScrollingLeaves · 24/03/2024 09:50

I forgot to say, if Dt Rona had these reasons for saying what they did - what if any science backs it up? - about immune system products, why on earth are they objecting to this medical conference looking into what if any science backs up treating children and young people with life altering and harming trans healthcare procedures?

I don't get this - Dr Ronx (AFAB in their terminology possibly) stopped going to the gym because of the 'sexualisation of cis men', which I read as a protest against 'cis' men (how can Dr R tell?) being sexualised by others. As in 'cor, cis man, you look really sexy in those lycra shorts' - is that what Dr R means, because that makes no sense. Were they sexualising Dr R when they was still a she? Is that it?

If they simply has the odd BBC contract to front the occasional show or series, then all the BBC can do is not offer them such contracts in the future. They are not staff.

It would be good to see Dr Ronx on a CAN-SG platform but they couldn't possibly afford Dr R as things stand.

I assume Dr Ronx was distressed by being sexualised by men. So had a mastectomy.

As far as I can tell, the logic is a circular loop that Bad people object to these treatments for various Bad reasons, and they use spurious calls about lack of evidence to do so - but we know they're safe and effective because only Bad people talk about lack of evidence. Any discussion about lack of evidence has Bad motives, and is coming from a Bad person. And we've never heard a Good person say anything about lack of evidence. QED.

Dr. Wonx is described above as 'unshockable'.

Odd that them should be so distressed by a 'tut'

Yes, I realise that, but was still a bit sleepy when I posted. It's a shame, my daughter loves Operation Ouch and I have done, too. I wonder if the van Tulleken twins are similarly disposed?

SinnerBoy · 24/03/2024 11:39

He has a Pride flag, but is followed by@sciencegirl and Louise Tickle:

Dr Ronx in the DM article above "To see people who are 'professionals' tut, frown and take pictures of us as if we are the enemy whilst accessing the conference was not nice."

Presumably storming the building, screaming and throwing smoke bombs was considered a reasonable response to those who tut.

Presumably the protesters stormed the building, screamed and threw smoke bombs first, and then the attendees tutted in response?

Every time a cis person tuts, a trans person dies, you know.

Could someone please ask Jolly-On if tutting at exhibitionists and sex pests is transphobic?

He's not getting any support on that thread, for some unknown reason. Its all gone a bit

They too are captured sorry. One of them (sorry can't remember which) was questioned about using 'people with a cervix' type terminology and insisted 'people with a cervix' would know they had one. When pressed on this, he suggested if you don't know if you have one you should ask your GP. All in order to avoid saying that there are two biological sexes. Woke idiot.

Is it not ironic that in that photo we have the TW full on glam with high heels and long hair whilst Dr R is in a conservative grey suit post mastectomy. All very retrograde sexist stereotypical. Go for it if you wish, but stop forcing everyone to go along with the lie that people can change sex and for gods sake stop pedalling it to children as the pathway to rainbows and unicorns and their true authentic selves. So despicable to use children to calm your own niggling doubts.

IwantToRetire · 24/03/2024 19:29

Will Dr Ronx Ikharia be judged by the BBC in the same way as they did Justin Webb and also Gary Lineker?

IwantToRetire · 24/03/2024 19:31

Sorry hit enter too soon:

Presenters on flagship shows must not endorse or attack a political party, criticise the character of individual politicians in the UK, or take up an official role in campaigning groups, it said.

IwantToRetire · 24/03/2024 20:14

A police spokesman said: 'At 9.45am a group attempted to gain access to an event in Euston Square. A smoke flare was set off. No reported injuries or damage.'

The BBC declined to comment. A source said Dr Ronx is not a BBC staff member and so is not covered by the broadcaster's guidelines on protests.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13231759/cbbc-medical-presenter-accused-trans-mob-storm-conference-puberty-blocker-row.html

As so many presenters etc., on tv, including the BBC, are self employed (something I thought the BBC encouraged as not responsible for sick pay, pension contributions etc.,) how can they guarantee impartiality if someone self employed is not covered by BBC guidelines?

CBBC presenter accused of leading trans mob's bid to storm conference

Dr Ronx Ikharia, who presents Operation Ouch!, was seen using a loud hailer outside a meeting of doctors at the Royal College of General Practitioners in London.

If so, it would be novel for the Sacred Caste (or is that reserved, ironically, for people who've crossed sex rather than adopted NB?).

@RethinkingLife case report about the vaginoplasty death here.

If you want the full text and don't have academic access DM me and I'll check if I do. I used to have it and have read the full article but my institution have just re-jigged what journals we get access to so i'm not sure if I still do.

I watched the puberty episode over DS11's shoulder and thought it was good, v clear language. But it's bbc and I expect they're being very careful at the moment
