"A man does not become a woman by donning a frock and lip gloss any more than than he becomes a cat by attempting to purr and lick himself clean"

Fabulous.

Blimey. That's amazing letter

FictionalCharacter · 20/03/2024 11:27

Even better - "does Ofcom have a better definition than Parliament?" Excellent.

EasternStandard · 20/03/2024 11:32

It’s a great letter

I had avoided the actual description of his crime until now, how awful Sad

akkakk · 20/03/2024 11:36

Superb letter - and a superb example of a member of the House of Lords holding a public body to account... Will be intrigued to see their reply.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 20/03/2024 11:40

The Baroness is not wrong about the BBC lack of impartiality. As I've reported previously on MN, some time ago the BBC had an item on their website about Kier Starmer and how he was a PM in waiting. I commented that I liked KS, but while he didn't support the right of women and girls to single sex provision I wouldn't be voting for him. I wasn't rude or sweary.

My comment was deleted as against BBC guidelines.

I appealed. I received an an email that just said 'your comment was against our guidelines'. I appealed again. They ignored me.

To use a good northern term, the BBC are 'shit-kickers' and only report on what they think is important and that isn't the rights of women and girls.

See also the WPath decision.

That closing sentence was an absolute zinger.

Even better - "does Ofcom have a better definition than Parliament?" Excellent.

It is. Of course we're laughing at the cat comment but it's the final line that might concentrate minds. Ofcom was established by Parliament and is supposed to be accountable to it. They know they don't get to redefine the law.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 20/03/2024 11:53

Fabulous! A woman whose anger only makes her more sharp and more articulate.

There's a special place in Hell etc etc.

SinnerBoy · 20/03/2024 13:57

Jolly good letter, by the way, Baroness. I wonder if they'll bother with a meaningful reply, or if they'll fob you off, as they did everyone else.

Froodwithatowel · 20/03/2024 14:06

But it's getting blunter, and plainer. Basically: you personally may choose to play this game with this man, but you have a job to be factually accurate and unbiased, and you can't use the BBC to enforce other people to play with you.

And that's really where it's all got to go.

viques · 20/03/2024 15:46

I hope she writes another stinger about the Justin Webb “in other words a man” fiasco where once again telling the truth about biological reality is not allowed in public.

HeartofSaturdayNight · 20/03/2024 18:28

Ooh that's a mighty letter from a mighty mind. Brava Baroness!

DuesToTheDirt · 20/03/2024 22:43

82 years old and up for a fight!
