We can’t post Crowdfunder links here, but there is now a Crowdfunder entitled “Chair of SEEN sued for saying 'only women menstruate'by Elspeth Duemmer Wrigley”

Text from website:

Who are you?
I'm Elspeth Duemmer Wrigley. I work for an arms-length body to a government department (part of the Civil Service) and love my job. I'm also gender critical, and chair of a governmental department SEEN (Sex Equality and Equity Network). SEEN represents those who are gender critical in our workplace.
What can you tell us?
The way I describe the case is restrained by my situation. I am writing this in a personal capacity, but am still employed and must comply with my employer's code of conduct and the Nolan Principles of Public Life. This places certain restrictions on me.
I’ve given as much information as I can, but I hope that what I set out below is sufficient to understand what’s going on.
So what happened?
I work for an arms-length body to the main government department. The case has been brought by a claimant who is an employee of another arms-length body. The claimant is taking their own employer, the government department and me to court.
Among other matters, the claimant is suing the government department for allowing our departmental SEEN network to exist (on the basis that the existence of the network has the effect of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating and/or offensive environment for the claimant).
What is the SEEN network?
SEEN (the Sex Equality and Equity Network) is an official cross-governmental staff network. We also have networks in three government departments (including the one being taken to court). SEEN is known as the gender critical network and is the only civil service network that clearly treats sex and sexual orientation as concepts defined in the Equality Act, which should never be conflated with or replaced by ‘gender identity’.

I will dig when I get paid. This has reminded me to complete the process for joining SEEN for my profession though. It’s clearly needed and still pretty scary.

JollyJanuary · 19/03/2024 18:58

Blimey that was quick. I've contributed.

AutumnCrow · 19/03/2024 18:59

I'll donate to this, for sure.

UltraLiteLife · 19/03/2024 18:59

It's an intriguing action given that it's hard on the heels of the Rachel Meade tribunal.

The case has been brought by a claimant who is an employee of another arms-length body. The claimant is taking their own employer, the government department and me to court.

I'm unclear if this is solely an employment tribunal, a civil action, or a blend of the two. The references to court and 'sue' make me think it's a civil action (as does the implication that she's being sued as an individual) but I just don't know. I'd welcome some clarity.

ETA: just realised that the fact she's filed an ET3 response means it's an employment tribunal.

LuciferRising · 19/03/2024 19:01

I've donated. It will be a disaster if she lost. I do wonder whether any plans were put into place for this - I would think this type of action would be expected?

@GailBlancheViolaNothing authoritarian there at all. FFS the people that do this will only be happy when”
This reminds me of a certain Canadian called Yanis who sued emigrants women that refuse to shave his hanging bits for discriminating him a woman on his own right. He got a few dollars as out of court settlement from scared and vulnerable home based businesses. The piece of Sheeit! Money can e a motivation

Well, we can't have people thinking sex and gender identity are different, can we? Let's be inclusive and insist everyone's gender identity is the same as their sex!

FinallyASunnyDay · 19/03/2024 19:17

It's hard to credit this is happening. Is it the death throes of a desperate movement? I like to hope.

Have dug. All strength to her.

ANewCreation · 19/03/2024 19:24

Gosh, nothing like suing someone from a fellow staff network to create an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating and/or offensive environment...

ResisterRex · 19/03/2024 19:28

Go to the main Crowd justice page click on Menu top right and select explore cases. Then you can search for chair of seen

Can anyone find it in a search engine using "crowd justice, chair of seen"? I couldn't. I had to go to the actual CJ home page and type "chair of seen" in their search bar.

👀👀👀👀

BreadInCaptivity · 19/03/2024 19:32

I wonder how the person bringing the case is funding their action....I can't find anything on crowdjustice.

I'm struggling to see how they believe/been advised they have a case given the precedents already set by Forstater/Mead/Bailey/Pheonix.

terffert · 19/03/2024 19:34

I found it easily by googling Elspeth Duemmer Wrigley

It's not coming up in searches on search engines at all!

It seems though people are finding it!

The chair of SEEN is being sued.

It was just over 3k when I put my card details in about 30mins ago. That is some solid support!

I ws wondering the same re the complainant. How do they have a case? How can it go to an ET when neither are the employer? I have little clue re the law.

FatLarrysBanned · 19/03/2024 19:45

Donated. Absolutely disgraceful that speaking the truth lands you in court.

Wasywasydoodah · 19/03/2024 19:49

Donated. This is really important

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 19/03/2024 19:50

the person who brought this case is doubtless absolutely looney tunes. I consider my donation to the crowd funder to be a small price to pay for the hours of honest entertainment watching their battshittery being exposed to legal sunlight will certainly bring.

hoping for a support badger this time around.

PauliesWalnuts · 19/03/2024 19:53

Donated - member of SEEN.

fedupandstuck · 19/03/2024 19:58

I've donated. This is just so absurd that anyone could be sued either personally or in a work capacity for the kinds of comments and references made. Truly mad.

I also think it's important to note that the approx 10,000 pounds raised so far is from numerous individuals, mainly women, each donating small amounts.

CriticalCondition · 19/03/2024 19:59

Donated. It went up £2000 in the 5 minutes it took me to find my card and enter the details. People are getting really fed up with this shit.

Froodwithatowel · 19/03/2024 20:04

I wonder how many court cases it's going to take for this political movement to get their heads around the idea that other people have rights too?

Will definitely be donating, thank you for sharing.

Boiledbeetle · 19/03/2024 20:04

Do you think people are pissed off? It's going up so quick

The chair of SEEN is being sued.
bilgewater · 19/03/2024 20:05

Also donated. Former civil servant, and heartened to see it's already gone past £10k.

grumpymummy72 · 19/03/2024 20:05

Donated. Am a SEEN member and it has provided light in a very dark tunnel. Sad that I'm too worried of the consequences to promote it on Facebook.
