It just seems to be the analysis of a topic from a religious perspective more often than not and rather limiting in that sense Jux.
I cannot honestly recall one where I have been particularly impressed.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/04/2024 14:06

What a rude person you are. Rude and tedious. Not worth engaging with you.

Mate, you made the comparison with Couzens, not me. To quote -
I was wondering why Lucy Letby another example of someone in a position of power and a psychopath was hardly mentioned on the programme compared to Wayne Cousins
I was giving one possible answer to your question.

And where on earth is 'If either of my sons had been murdered it would be less harrowing than if my daughter had been murdered?' coming from? With respect, I feel I'm not the one being 'bizarre', 'crass' or 'horribly illogical' here.

Nonowt · 17/04/2024 14:33

( I'd suggest the fact that infanticide isn't endemic in society or its law enforcers could be why it wasn't discussed on Woman's Hour in the same depth as violent misogyny within the police force)
I found this comment interesting as I've always thought that infanticide was only applicable to a mother killing her infant which I checked and it is.
Apparently it is considered a very hidden area of homicide where a lot more infant deaths are infanticide than are discovered or proven to the point that it is considered to potentially be the highest age group that is at risk of homicide.
This is incredibly sad and certainly worthy of a discussion on WH.
I've always felt that not enough attention is given to the vulnerability of women psychologically in pregnancy and especially birth when hormones go crazy.
I would like to see women having far more support particularly now there is less likelihood of experience with babies prior to giving birth themselves or family like a mother close by to offer their help or experience.
Reliance on forums such as this seem fraught with the danger of negativity.

Iamtheoneinten · 17/04/2024 14:43

Weirdly personal. And the whataboutery MRA vibes…..

WinterTrees · 17/04/2024 15:32

Jeepers. Nonowt's argument is switching direction so quickly I'm getting whiplash.

In English and Welsh law only the mother can be charged with the criminal offence of Infanticide, but the word is used more generally for the killing of any child under one year old. It's also pretty incidental to this thread and not really worth nitpicking over to my mind 🤷‍♀️

I have no idea what you mean by Reliance on forums such as this seem fraught with the danger of negativity when it was you who revived a month-old thread largely supporting Emma Barnett to discredit her, but please don't feel you have to elucidate further.

DojaPhat · 17/04/2024 15:35

Why didn't Emma ever invite her dad for interview?
The same Emma Barnett who forgot she was not muted when disparaging Kelechi?

I can see why Emma's so popular here though tbf.

DidoDino · 17/04/2024 15:37

BTW one man a week is a victim of domestic murder according to figures.

That's astonishing, I had no idea. May I ask which figures you're quoting?

nauticant · 17/04/2024 15:40

The same Emma Barnett who forgot she was not muted when disparaging Kelechi?

I think that information-free slur could do with some context:

Why would she interview her dad on woman's hour?

More detail of what Kelechi Okafor said that attracted Emma Barnett's attention in case anyone's interested:

I have wondered if it was anything to do with the political situation in Israel and Palestine that she has moved programmes.
She certainly upset some folk (including womenfolk), the late Sinead O'Connor didn't mince her words!

Do you not feel that whilst she was fielding a discussion regarding trafficked women the other day on WH that her father could have proved quite an expert on the subject?

Nonowt · 17/04/2024 16:54

DidoDino Bureau of Justice Statistics.
I have to admit to knowing a family member, male who was in a coercive relationship and his partner controlled money, family, friends and would even attack him especially when vulnerable at night.
There was a lot of help from an organisation called Respect who can offer support to men in abusive situations.
It's very often a problem exacerbated by anxiety on the part of the abuser who needs support too to try and reduce their need to control everything.
They showed a list of behaviours that could frankly apply to either gender.
Women tend to go for a knife so they said if the relationship does escalate.
Many men do not report or admit to needing help due to feeling a lack of sympathy or fear of being mocked.
Men are also more likely to take their own lives than acknowledge the problem.
They showed a video of a woman appearing to be in a vulnerable position in a shouting match in the street and she very quickly had support from passersby. The same situation in reverse however resulted in laughter and embarrassment with no support to the male being abused.

There is no doubt that religion however has played a major role in keeping women under control over the centuries.

DojaPhat · 17/04/2024 17:09

@MissScarletInTheBallroom He did a lot to empower women, particularly young women.

What a helpful interpretation, incredibly generous mind you. That journo would be swept up by the tory party for at least thrice her going rate!

DojaPhat · 17/04/2024 17:18

Does anyone actually think the JC to be a credible source of news journalism? I suppose all to some extents have their biases, but I suppose the difference lies in news source versus credible news source. A mere wifi connection.

You're talking about a man who was jailed for keeping brothels?

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 17/04/2024 17:58

Congratulations to Emma on her promotion!
(I know that this is how a move to 'Today' is seen.)

She was great on WH and I will certainly miss her.

Nonowt · 17/04/2024 18:10

Had to look up MRA vibes.
Couldn't see what it was supposed to be saying.

DojaPhat · 17/04/2024 18:53

@MissScarletInTheBallroom Considering her prominent role on a show ostensibly with women's interests at heart, her father seemed an apt candidate for interview. She's known for her 'grilling' of guests, no?? Or perhaps dad's just an inconvenient truth in her girl-bossing history.

Nonowt · 17/04/2024 19:00

Good point DojaPhat.

BettyFilous · 17/04/2024 19:11

There are some very odd contributions on this thread.

You...do realise that Emma wasn't involved in the running of a brothel because she was a child at the time...right?

Perhaps this could be picked up in.the other 23 hrs of broadcasting and leave WH to issues impacting women and the systemic contexts for those things
