Zoe Williams piece in Thursday’s Guardian. Seems to me like a fairly tenuous link being made between ‘anti-trans’ groups and anti-abortion groups. Also, can anyone understand what the stuff about trans men coming for abortions means/what point is being made, because I’m struggling.

‘I’m not judging you’ – midwife Juno Carey on what it’s like to work in an abortion clinic

She’s looked after teenagers, rape survivors and trafficked sex workers – and assisted at terminations while she’s been pregnant herself. Still, she wouldn’t change her job for anything.

The Problem with loads of disparate groups being "anti trans"* is that people often jump to the conclusion that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" so get a bit of a shock when they either find out that a group they have stood alongside on one issue, are their absolute arch-enemy on another.

Yes, an extreme example would be Obama's Government arming the group which became ISIS.

Do you have a source for that claim, or are you just engaging in hyperbole?

It's also playing into the compulsory Guardian agenda - right wing = evil, left wing = virtuous, when both extremes are the opposite side of the same coin.

can't answer for ISIS but the west have form - or are you all to young to remember us supporting the Mujahaddeen against the Sovs, who then became the Taliban

The trans bit didn't need to be in that article.

I'm pretty sure it's a contractual obligation for the Graun😂

Yep.

Pandering after US $$$$ and not giving a shit about journalism.

Sad but true. The Guardian used to be a strong voice for liberal democratic principles. But that was decades ago.

I remember that in Afghanistan in the 1980s. I could hardly believe it at the time, western powers supporting anti-democratic Islamic fundamentalists. The fundamentalists were at least open about their aims, abolishing women’s rights as soon as they took power anywhere.

The whole thing was an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

I was about to read a political article in the Graun the other day and then I saw it was by Zoe W so didn’t bother. She’s either incapable of critical thinking or a fan of only giving one side - not what I expect in a journalist.
