How do you even use these pronouns to refer to this person?

I'm especially confused as i thought they were using Margaret Thatcher as a pronoun which seems particularly strange.

What are you getting out of commenting on this thread, Ian?

Because it’s not an echo chamber, Gary.

Apparently.

Maybe it’s because they can “refer to myself as however I please, thank you very fucking much.”

Calm down, mate!

They’re not commenting on themselves though. The display of pronouns is to instruct everyone else on how they’re allowed to speak about them. It’s about controlling everyone else.

The pronouns they use to refer to themselves are I and me. Just as they are for everyone. They’re the first person pronouns.

How about hey fuck wit, couldn’t give a shite about your gender ID. Can you get on with my scan please.

Sounds about right

It's a play!

Maybe it’s because they can “refer to myself as however I please, thank you very fucking much.”

But we use he/she/they pronouns to refer to others.

The pronouns used to refer to oneself are I/me.
So of course you can refer to yourself however you fucking like.

However, asking other people to use language that you have decided upon in place of their natural use of sex-based pronouns goes beyond referring to yourself and into controlling how others perceive you and refer to you.

He/she/they aren’t “your” pronouns.

Displaying them is shorthand for “this is the sex I want you to perceive me as and refer to me as”.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 15/03/2024 09:23

In general I think the preferred pronouns thing is ridiculous and also about taking an opportunity to display your opinions, but I can't get worked up about it. Young people tend to do it mostly from what I see.

Or they’ve been forced into it at work

Or they’ve seen other people doing it so also do it. I was saying the other day I’d love to ask a couple of people why they put pronouns on their email signature at work as I know the answer would be I’ve no fucking clue .

...if they have no clue then they come under the 'making yourself look a bit of a twat' category.

Thanks for the info & explaining to me.
Whats the view on women/ men (not trans) using these pronouns? I mean, when no need- they are obv the gender they are?

Or they do it to Be Kind. They've been told it's kind to do this, and nobody wants to be thought of as unkind, after all.

Sure, go ahead, refer to yourself however you want. What has that to do with the way anybody else refers to you?
