From the US: mother of TiF went undercover at gender clinic

This is quite shocking - a 53-year-old mother, estranged from her daughter for not affirming her trans identity, decided to go undercover with her local healthcare provider to see how "gender-affirming care" works.

She pretended to be "non-binary", and was approved for testosterone, double mastectomy and phalloplasty within a few months. No safeguarding at all.

I know this is from the US, but affects us all as the main driver of gender ID bollox. And I know most of us know this kind of thing goes on, but I hope this story reaches as many people as possible who aren't aware.

I Pretended To Be ‘Nonbinary’ To Expose a Medical Scandal at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser gender specialists were eager to approve hormones and surgeries, which would all be covered by insurance as “medically necessary.”

There are people dying every day in the NHS that could have been saved due to waiting times / lists. There are statistics on it. Something like several hundred avoidable deaths a week in A&E alone.

And yet they're spending money on this shit, apparently. People should have to pay for body modification themselves. Counselling should be free on the NHS, but not surgery on healthy bodies. That should be paid for by the person wanting it. There's zero evidence it improves mental health. It's money that could be spent on treatments that actually do have an evidence base showing efficacy and that benefits outweigh risks.

Edited to add: I know this is in the US, but the NHS is spending money that could be better spent elsewhere on these surgeries with no evidence base.

This makes me wonder about differences between the USA and here.

Over here, treatment linked to the reproductive system(sterilisation, HRT) are tightly controlled. Even when going outside of the NHS and paying for prescriptions, doctors are very cautious. This isn't an age if consent issue.

Does anyone know if in the States, these can be accessed on request, and without 'gatekeeping'?

Looking at the comments on the article, seems that doctors in the US, including this Kaiser place, are just as cautious about those other treatments as they are here. Menopausal "customers" complaining they can't get HRT, etc. And appalling care for people who are actually ill.

But anything gender-id related - just gets waived through. Efficiently, too.

Not an illness? So why are we supposed to make special allowances and arrangements then?

I thought we were accommodating people with a significant additional need.

A 53-year-old middle-class woman with excellent insurance who wouldn't accept her son's gender identity lied about her symptoms and was offered treatment, as a gotcha to her transgender son, who is more mature and understands boundaries far better than she does.

She gets two mental health screenings before receiving hormones and another before she's referred to surgery. She is no longer fertile and has at least one child.Doctors ask about trauma, mental health and social transition. It took 300 days to be offered surgery. If you lie to your doctor, you are quite likely to get the wrong treatment. Her subtext is that no one should get gender-affirming care.

She's exactly the sort of person you'd expect her to be. She runs a chapter of Moms for Liberty, and was under a workplace violence restraining order. She was removed from back to school night at the highschool for screaming about teen girls having their breasts cut off. She has doxxed teachers. She's sent videos to Libs of TikTok and now, she's committed insurance fraud. I think she could be up for the Most Divorced Person of the Year.

Imagine if she'd poured all that misplaced energy into building a relationship with her child instead of transphobia, book banning, and opposing "critical race theory" and LBGT education in schools.

Ignore the evidence! It comes from the wrong sort of person!!

Beowulfa · 28/02/2024 15:20

All sensible people should be screaming about teenage girls having their breasts cut off. It's a shocking dereliction of medical ethics.

Boiledbeetle · 28/02/2024 15:53

Imagine if someone actually put all their effort into actually giving a shit about the unnecessary shit these people are putting themselves through when they have perfectly good working bodies until the insurance led medical people get their hands on them.

Unsurprisingly one poster as usual thinks green is yellow and up is down. And can't see that this woman wasn't committing insurance fraud for the laughs she was highlighting the flaws in the system.

This.

We need a proper NICE review of the evidence as to whether providing cross sex hormones and surgery for gender dysphoria is value for money.

An unbiased review of the evidence would show that it isn't, so the NHS should stop funding it.

People who want extreme body modifications for any reason should fund them themselves.

The NHS has also got money to waste spend on helping people try to sound like the opposite sex, apparently
