Well this has to be the stupidest mantrum that I've seen, the GPs would be perfectly justified to kick him off there books after his threats

Trans-influencer threatens to cancel GP after being refused hormones

A British trans activist and BBC actor has shared her battle to get hormone medications she's been taking for a decade after her new GP refused to prescribe them after she moved to the countryside.

Well done that GP - perhaps they are well-informed enough to be able to see that this could easily become a medical negligence issue, and they wisely want no part of it

Indeed. I wouldn't be wanting to touch it as a GP for that reason.

They won’t let me try testosterone. Why would they let him try oestrogen?

Fake freckles too

Pretty sure Good Medical Practice mandates acting within your knowledge and experience. So the GP is probably doing the right thing. Ah, found it, to quote the GMC "You must recognise and work within the limits of your competence." Well done to the GP for recognising his/her limitations and working within them.

Well he's a delight. It should help give him a touch more understanding of how women feel though, navigating a medical system where the vast majority of research has been done by men on men, with very little interest in the fact that women aren't just mini-men.

After Cragg’s comments about the PM nothing surprises me.

KohlaParasaurus · 26/02/2024 21:37

GPs are well accustomed to dealing with inappropriate demands for prescription medication. I expect this chap will get little satisfaction by complaining through the standard pathway because most GPs would have made exactly the same decision.

Why do they want female hormones? Does being a woman have something to do with being female? And why aren't there more details on exactly where in London they moved from and exactly where they have moved to, so we can get exact up-to- the- minute house valuations?!

This is an interesting point as in we are constantly being told that sex does not equate to gender so why the need for hormones to develop female secondary sexual characteristics?

May I just say that as an early menopause woman who's GP refused to recognise my symptoms, my heart bleeds purple piss for him.

DimplesToadfoot · 26/02/2024 22:01

SaffronSpice · 26/02/2024 20:32

And they don’t seem to have much trouble saying ‘no’ to women who want HRT

That's me, I've had to go through the menopause with no help or support whatsoever. How I didn't jump off the nearest motorway bridge beats me.

I have just cringed myself inside out & back again at the idea of not just Don’t You Know Who I Am?!-ing but then bragging ye’ve a Wikipedia page & to cap it all, jumping on your socials to proudly tell the world you’ve made an utter eejit of yourself. To say the least.

Making threats like this should have them i. removed from that practice & ii. warned, when allowed to register elsewhere, about what constitutes acceptable behaviour.

Good for that GP [surgery] for providing such a high standard of care for their patients. And doubly so for not capitulating to bullying & unreasonable demands. Including unreasonable demands from specialists, who all too often try to dump stuff onto GPs that they should be doing & GPs have no fecking time for what with them keeping the medicine side of primary care going 🤦‍♀️

Sadly I’m sure this narcissist has received a huge volume of support. I’m genuinely embarrassed for people who are so ill-informed about healthcare in this country that they’d go along with arrant (& indeed arrogant) nonsense like this. The sheer entitlement of it is gobsmacking.
