Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

These appalling crimes were not committed by a woman.

Changingplace · 26/02/2024 19:35

Hmm still refers to ‘she’ in the first paragraph.

popebishop · 26/02/2024 19:38

Why does he keep being called a cat-killer in the main headline when, although that is awful, he is a man-killer? The whole thing is really weird, like normally it'd surely be "Murderer Scarlet Blake..." as that's the crime in question?

josette · 26/02/2024 19:49

Even the Times are referring to him as ‘she’ all the way through their article about the crimes.
And they have turned the comments off.
Disgusted by this and totally fed up.

Coffeestain · 26/02/2024 19:49

An award-winning guardian-contributing journalist of 25 years standing has complained

the Times have their comments switched off - that's quite the surprise tbh. I guess they feared getting hammered.

I totally don't understand the reporting. Yes, the cat killing is bad but this person, Blake, killed an actual man whose name is remarkable by its absence from all reporting unless you go hunting for it. And that is leaving aside the absolute shit-show it is in suddenly finding out that it was a trans woman who did the killing.

So, say his name: Jorge Carreno

Talipesmum · 26/02/2024 20:08

Yes. It previously said “cat killing woman” and now it says “cat killer”.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 26/02/2024 20:11

The BBC tv report earlier in the day totally obfuscated the facts. I had no idea of 'Scarlet's' sex (hadn't heard the story until today) and the reporting was very misleading.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 26/02/2024 20:16

In fact, I've just looked it up. The online BBC report has been changed from 'woman' to 'murderer' within a matter of minutes. That's interesting

sorry, should say that it was the bolded paragraph that now says "A murderer who led a man to his death and livestreamed the killing of a cat months before has been jailed for a minimum of 24 years." Literally, a moment ago, it was as pictured in next message (I screengrabbed).

Farmageddon · 26/02/2024 20:18

The real problem is the IPSO guidelines, which most media outlets follow.

https://www.ipso.co.uk/media/2423/guidance-sex-gender-identity.pdf

Maybe we should complain directly to IPSO for their part in this shitshow.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 26/02/2024 20:20

This was the original BBC

"A woman obsessed with death..."

Guardian reporting on Scarlet Blake
Brefugee · 26/02/2024 20:21

i still can't get over the cat being the headline over an actual human.

ZenNudist · 26/02/2024 20:30

Very impressed by Louise Tickle's comprehensive complaint.

It's false reporting to claim a woman did this.

I get they think "cat killer" is more descriptive and interesting but am aghast that's apparently more important than being a murderer.

nauticant · 26/02/2024 20:43

Also other people have pointed out, in the way Isla Bryson became "rapist gender", Blake is "cat killer gender".

I think we should a start complaining really fucking loudly to absolutely fucking everyone.

MRAs are citing this story to claim that women are getting more violent.

Yes, it's to avoid saying 'man' or 'transwoman'.

The cat killer question- it’s what makes this murderer stand out among other murderers.
Otherwise how would you know which on they were talking about

I mean it’s awful, but it’s not surprising

SheRasBra · 26/02/2024 21:15

No GRC apparently and therefore no reason to use she/her pronouns at all. I also think it's awful to draw attention to lead with the cat killing when an actual person was murdered.

Heylo · 26/02/2024 21:59

The Guardian have already removed it from their website (the article). You have to google it to find it. They clearly reposted with ‘cat killer’ instead of woman to bow to pressure they were under from Louise Tickle’s article and complaints.

I may be wrong and I can't check right now - sorry - but I don't think the Guardian are signed up to IPSO in which case they can't hide behind that excuse.

AncientQuercus · 26/02/2024 22:25

I've just watched the report on the BBC 10pm news about a cat killing woman. She all the way through, including she strangled the man and threw him in the river. So angry about this reporting.

newnamethanks · 26/02/2024 22:31

Never mind what the Guardian thinks, this killer1 will, quite rightly, serve their sentence in a male prison.

MorvernBlack · 26/02/2024 22:35

I've just watched this on the news and had no idea, until I'd just read the above, that the killer wasn't a woman.
This kind of thing makes me furious, this shouldnt be included in female statistics. There's no reason not to describe the offender as a transwoman, if the journalist is mired in gender ideology.

KCandtheSunlightBand · 26/02/2024 22:36

I’m so angry about this. The Guardian story is back, in the top 10. One reference to Transgender Woman, and then ‘she’ throughout.

How many people have been misguided by this? The court, his poor family who had to refer to their loved ones killer as ‘she’, everyone who has read the reports in every newspaper National and local, the victims friends, BBC readers/viewers.
Where does this stop, and how can no one in a position to do something about it have put a stop to it?
