Dr Phil sees the light!

Dr Phil on Joe Rogan, discussing the issue with trans identifying children. He says he’s got a few shows coming out soon talking about the problems and long term impacts of this trend. I know he’s done fairly pro trans shows before so I’m surprised to see this, but he’s obviously educated himself over the years. I think if he’s highlighting the problems in this ideology it will make a huge impact in the states, he is a huge star there and very mainstream.

This is great news. Somehow I suspect that, as a man, he will be listened to more and less vilified than the women who speak out on this eg JKR.

I think "aliging yourself with" is one for the bingo card.

There are certain words and phrases that always set my spidey senses on edge,
"aliging with" is definitely one of them.
Just skip straight to calling people Nazis and save us all the time.

It's a weak fallacy that plays too easily into tribalism.

Never been a fan of dr Phil but great that another voice has been added to the chorus!

What’s so important is a more nuanced conversation is finally starting and that that conversation is becoming more mainstream. I know very, very few GC people who wish anyone trans ill, but some concerns are valid and it’s been insane to watch them being shutdown and bullied.

I also think it’s irrelevant whether any of us like Dr Phil or agree with him usually, I’m not particularly a fan and do think he hasn’t helped over the years with a lot of puff pieces on trans issues.

The important thing is that he has a huge audience and is very famous. The fact that he is coming out and saying the unsayable about transing children being child abuse is huge. IMHO!

Yeah, I don't know who he is beyond what I read yesterday, what matters is his reach and sunlight.

Surely the main point is that he has a wide audience, and is going to talk about the issues in the medical evidence.

That is a big deal in North America, most people have zero idea that it is so thin. They believe that it is all 100% medically supported with good research.

I had several workmates today, very supportive of "trans folk" ask me what a newspaper article meant when it talked about someone cis-gendered who had been assigned female at birth, and how someone could be queer if they were heterosexual.

It's easy when you have been following this to think supporters in the general public know what they are supporting. They really don't 90% of the time.

As you say, his popularity means he could make a big difference.
