"The ruling, left wing Social Democrats’ equality minister Marie Bjerre made the unequivocal statement that in the govts view:
-There are only two sexes
⁃Transmen are women and transwomen are men
⁃Sex is observed, not assigned
⁃A woman is an adult human female"

Wow that's a great clear statement

Marie Bjerre isn’t a Social Democrat minister. She is a minister from the Danish equivalent of the Tories - a party that got 13% in the last election and holds only 23 seats out of 179.

Also it’s noteworthy that there is no actual source quote of what she actually said. Wonder why that is?

Bravo Denmark 🇩🇰!

Chersfrozenface · 17/02/2024 09:52

Marie Bjerre's party is the second largest in Denmark.

She is a minister because her party is in government as part of a coalition

And FYI, last year, as minister, she announced that the age limit for abortion without parental consent would be lowered in Denmark from 18 to 15. Just in case we get the usual accusations of right-wingery.

I had to read that a few times to make sure it didn't say TWAW. I'm not used to seeing true facts written down clearly.

FrancescaContini · 17/02/2024 09:54

Seems crazy that it needs to be said but here we are. Great news for the Danish people.

I lived in Denmark and although I am a little surprised by this I am also thrilled about it and now want to move back! Huzzah!

I'm Danish and a social worker. I actually checked each party's stance on this before the last election and was very disappointed in the left, but this has really restored my faith in the center left, and really surprised me!

The SW union has been doing a lot more t stuff which I don't like as our practice is supposed to be evidence based.

I haven't seen much of a reaction to this, but will keep an eye on Twitter.

Did your SW Union have any reaction to the Rachel Meade tribunal ruling involving Social Work England?

I haven't seen anything in the magazine yet.

They held a webinar which was very one sided (no rainbow council but parents of LGBT kids) but I didn't feel brave enough to challenge anything. My ability to construct a coherent sentence in Danish when feeling any strong emotion is practically non existent. I did ask for sources of all the stats etc but didn't get them. At least I don't remember getting them.
