"The ruling, left wing Social Democrats’ equality minister Marie Bjerre made the unequivocal statement that in the govts view:
-There are only two sexes
⁃Transmen are women and transwomen are men
⁃Sex is observed, not assigned
⁃A woman is an adult human female"

Pudmyboy · 16/02/2024 21:18

Great stuff, let's hope the ferret keeps on reversing!

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/02/2024 21:29

Yay

afternoonoflife · 16/02/2024 23:40

Can someone send this to Sandi Toksvig?

notknowledgeable · 16/02/2024 23:42

what is Sandi Toxfig's stance?

theconfidenceofwho · 16/02/2024 23:49

Thank fuck there's one government that hasn't been captured!

Let's hope more follow suit.

what is Sandi Toxfig's stance?

That TWAW and she doesn’t understand what we’re all going on about.

TheSlantedOwl · 17/02/2024 00:08

Wow that’s amazing!!!!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 17/02/2024 00:22

Wonderful news. A bit surprising, actually.

Denmark is now at the top of my ‘Countries that aren’t Crazy’ list.

It is a pretty short list.

HeartofSaturdayNight · 17/02/2024 00:39

So reality based? This is really good news. Let the dominoes fall.

DancingOnMoonbeams · 17/02/2024 00:41

How it should be.

Delphinium20 · 17/02/2024 02:49

Not bad.

(that's Danish for fucking amaze balls news!!)

PatatiPatatras · 17/02/2024 06:50

what's the political status in Denmark? How man of the other parties are like the UK greens?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 17/02/2024 08:04

Wow. Are there any Danes on here who know what the reaction has been to this or where things stand more generally on Denmark?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/02/2024 08:09

Good news. I imagine many governments around the world could issue a similar pronouncement, but it would be because they are extremely keen on gender stereotypes rather than committed to biological reality and women's rights, safeguarding etc etc. Many vocal activists seem to think that you can only vote for a politician or welcome a political decision/announcement if you agree with them on every single thing they do. This is impossible. The sooner the grown ups in the room start pointing this out, the better. At any election you have to vote for the least worst option, if there isn't an obvious best choice.

Bless her little Christmas tree patterned socks.

domineastronomy · 17/02/2024 08:30

You see Keir? It's not too hard to understand...

EasternStandard · 17/02/2024 08:31

Always thought the Danish were socially advanced

Does anyone know what type of policies will come from it?

Single sex spaces etc

GCAcademic · 17/02/2024 08:32

Who could have imagined - say 15 years ago - that such a statement would have been something to be excited or relieved about?

aquarimum · 17/02/2024 08:35

First bicycles, then this. Denmark is shaping up to be a pretty perfect place to live 😁

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/02/2024 08:35

I'm Danish and a social worker. I actually checked each party's stance on this before the last election and was very disappointed in the left, but this has really restored my faith in the center left, and really surprised me!

The SW union has been doing a lot more t stuff which I don't like as our practice is supposed to be evidence based.

I haven't seen much of a reaction to this, but will keep an eye on Twitter.

TheSlantedOwl · 17/02/2024 08:37

So disappointed in Toksvig. Such a shame. How can she not see? Or maybe she knows all too well the costs of speaking the truth.

Asurvivor · 17/02/2024 08:37

I worked for a Scandinavian company for several years - was based in Norway but visited Denmark a lot. I think although the Scandinavian countries were the first to bring in self-identification, they are also the first countries to start restricting puberty blockers etc following the alarming rise in teenage girls with gender/other issues.

They are countries where women have achieved a good level of equality - through great maternity (and paternity) rights, state subsidised and good quality childcare (children are up to age 5 or 6 in nurseries) and other initiatives on equal pay for example. Its really good to see that Denmark’s equality minister wants to protect these rights.

Plus there is a Danish organisation similar to LGB Alliance which is focusing on gay & lesbian issues only - seperating out the T. I think they have been quite successful at demonstrating that this is a valid focus to have. Maybe a Danish person can explain more about them, it has been a couple of years since I followed the news there.

Rightsraptor · 17/02/2024 08:38

None of us could, @GCAcademic, unless we were already ferreting around in the back rooms trying to make the gender bollox the accepted view, a la Denton's report.

But we are where we are - slowly hauling ourselves out of this mire.

I wonder if the Danish common sense might spread to Norway any time soon?
