In case you haven't seen it, Simon Fanshawe (one of the founders of Stonewall who left recently as he felt it had lost its way) has been elected as Rector for Edinburgh University.

It was unopposed as the other candidate had to withdraw. As you might imagine the TRAs are losing their shit with one linking it to the murder of Brianna Ghey which is truly despicable.

Dr. Gina Gwenffrewi
@GinaGwenffrewi
Ten days since the judge at the trial of Brianna Ghey's killers identified transphobia as partial motive for the murder, the University of Edinburgh announces its new Rector is a founder of LGB Alliance, an organization categorized in Ireland as an "anti-transgender" hate group.

Nice use of the word "many" to imply that their gang outnumber the rest.

whilst very glad to see Simon get the gig I am a bit puzzled. Given the fuss about showing a certain film there recently I thought Edinburgh was headbanger central? In which case why did they not put in more effort to get a gender loon elected?

If there were an election they would have to put their positions up for public scrutiny. They can't do that because their positions are complete nonsense.

It is, however, massively embarrassing for them because the more they rant and rave about how awful Simon Fanshawe is, the more people will ask: If he is so dangerous and bigoted, why did they not put up any candidate against him?

Their methods are not those of democratic debate: they are the cancellation, the sacking, the pile-on, the threatening mob.

None of the critical tweets said things like "Oh, he is awful, I wish we had got our act together and stood someone else".

They said things like "How was this person allowed to stand??"

And now there is a petition to get him removed by diktat.

Yes, I noticed and mocked.

As for the lazy use of alum, for those who know there's a difference, but don't know which is which:

Alum is mineral aluminium sulphate, used in leather tanning and solid deodorants.

I am not a lawyer, but as Jo Phoenix has pointed out in her tweet, would it not be an open and shut case for Simon at an ET if this behaviour persisted and the University stood idly by and watched him being bullied out of the position? Not that I think it will come to that. Surely the vast and silent majority at the U of E must be thoroughly sick of these intolerant bigots trying to close down film screenings, debates, student and staff societies/networks etc, and now attempting to dictate who gets a job and who doesn't.

I once very briefly met Simon Fanshawe when he was a guest of someone in my workplace. I was in a public facing role at the time and he came to me to ask me to do some task (can't remember what, possibly printing/photocopying). I politely declined as I couldn't leave the desk unattended but showed him where he could do it himself.

The person he was visiting (more senior role than me but in a different dept) went full on "Do you know who this is? he's a VIP etc..." Simon very politely but firmly cut across them and said he was more than happy to do whatever it was himself now I'd pointed him in the right direction and thanked me". He was the perfect gent and showed up my so-called "colleague" for the twat he was.

I think he'll make an excellent Rector.

The 'my dad's bigger than your dad' is great within this movement.

Thoughts and prayers for the candlelit vigil that they never have to be exposed to the horror of Simon saying things they don't agree with.
