Simon Fanshawe rector of Edinburgh

In case you haven't seen it, Simon Fanshawe (one of the founders of Stonewall who left recently as he felt it had lost its way) has been elected as Rector for Edinburgh University.

It was unopposed as the other candidate had to withdraw. As you might imagine the TRAs are losing their shit with one linking it to the murder of Brianna Ghey which is truly despicable.

Oh and Fanshawe is not a founder of the LGB Alliance but don't let facts get in the way

Well done Simon Fanshawe! His stand on Stonewall , which he helped to bloody FOUND, was really brave and I know he got a fair bit of criticism for it.

The tantrumming TRA academic needs to get a grip.

The election would have been open to all staff and students however as the other candidate withdrew Simon was appointed without having to go through the campaign

The position is elected by the student body and the primary role of the rector is to preside at the University Court. They also work closely with students and the Edinburgh University Students' Association (EUSA).

If the student body know Fanshawe's background this is really significant.

Perhaps Scotland has gone to far and the optics of Isla Bryson and Self ID have had a positive result.

This is great news - finally someone who brings some balance to the issue. The fact that the TRAs are up in arms about it is reassuring, although bringing Brianna Ghey up is despicable.

They interview a whiny male staff member who says that Simon "speaks offensively". I was dying for the interviewer to ask for an example of this offensive speech, but sadly no.

It was on stv. There was a whiny (scared) man who thought it was very unsafe 🤣🤣🤣
