A group of Sheffield women objected to a digital billboard campaign this morning trying to normalise gender identity in children. They dropped their objection from the main roundabout in the city.

Good work, women 💪

Toseland · 10/02/2024 20:02

Oh well done Sheffield women! xxx

What an ugly monstrosity of a billboard "Just Like Us" have created!
Interesting they've chosen to use a warning sign. What does it say now - warning LGBTQ+ children? Also interesting that they've taken the trouble to change the order and rotated the direction of the stripes so that black is at the top with baby pink and blue.

I should think that surely the Highways Agency will remove this as it is too easily confusable with actual street signage? Why hasn't that happened already?

Also do you know an amazing woman designed all our street signage -Margaret Calvert. I'm sure she said once in an interview that when she designed this sign, the children depicted in the warning triangle were her and her elder sister.

She was an information and graphic designer, at the top of a male-dominated industry, trailblazing a way for women like me - thank you Margaret x

She was expert at sending quick, clear messages and she would have been horrifed to see her work distorted like that.

Is that on the Sheaf Square/Sheffield Parkway junction @Jeanhatchet?

I don't live in the great Steel City any more, but I'm not far away.

BezMills · 10/02/2024 20:19

Women of Steel!

stealtheatingtunnocks · 10/02/2024 20:27

That’s what we need to do. Retort. On sheets if we have to.

MagpiePi · 10/02/2024 20:32

You’ll never guess what’s happened….

Wrongspeak. Doubleplus ungood wrongspeak.

BlackeyedSusan · 10/02/2024 20:49

Well done. Good luck with a repeat performance of whichever size (or stickiness...) around the city.

JellySaurus · 10/02/2024 20:53

What's the bit that looks like a pile of poo at the top of triangle meant to mean?

MagpiePi · 10/02/2024 21:27

Jeanhatchet · 10/02/2024 20:34

I don't understand?

…it got cut down

Jeanhatchet · 10/02/2024 21:33

@MagpiePi

Yes. I believe rather quickly. I understand the intention to cut it down was expressed by some people close by. But the fact is thousands of cars passed beneath it and I hear many honked their horns in support - before it was removed. And of course - images on the Internet can't easily be cut down. So I thank those women. x

I did not know that! Thank you, excellent bit of history.

Villagetoraiseachild · 10/02/2024 22:34

Go Women of Sheff!
Wish someone would throw a big sheet over the (Not) Just Like Us ad.

terryleather · 10/02/2024 22:52

murasaki · 11/02/2024 00:01

Gosh, they are scared of the truth, and people seeing the truth. Good banner. If I were closer to Sheffield I'd donate a spare bedsheet for round 2.

Howtheweeshtwaswon · 11/02/2024 00:20

I don't understand?

All us of had guessed that the council would send in a crack emergency special forces team, to take the sign down ASAP.
