Town clock strikes every fifteen minutes then does the bongs on the hour! Less annoying than a cockadoodledoo at 5am!
I grew up across the street from a Catholic church with nice loud bells. Not only did it strike (still does) every 15 min (1 for 15, 2 for 30, 3 for 45 and 4 for 60) and the full hours, it also rings the bells at 6 am, 12 pm and 6 pm for the Angelus, several times before mass to call people to church, then during transubstantiation, and a death in the parish is being announced by the church bells too. Which is probably the reason why I slept through two alarms (both training thankfully) when I was out at sea on a ship that had bells rather then sirens.
There were also several roosters close by and some noisy geese.
