A group are taking the above to court after the pub refused to serve them and the barman assaulted one gay man.

The group were told the pub "wouldn't serve terfs."

Garden found on the usual site. Search for - Assaulted and refused service at a pub for supporting women’s rights.

That's the second Northern Ireland one we've had here today. What's going on over there? Things hotting up?

OvaHere · 23/01/2024 18:36

There's 23 claimants for this one.

Is this the first large group action?

I think both came out of people reacting to the Belfast LWS event.

SidewaysOtter · 23/01/2024 21:14

I’ll get the gardening tools out in the morning.

IcakethereforeIam · 23/01/2024 21:15

I think I remember this being reported when it happened.

FlipperSkipper · 24/01/2024 12:15

Will deffo be gardening for this one. I was there after LWS but had to leave before all this kicked off.

Lilifer · 24/01/2024 13:17

Sorry I have seen this reference to gardening a few times, what is meant by it??

Abhannmor · 24/01/2024 13:21

Helping with legal stuff £ usually @Lilifer

duc748 · 24/01/2024 13:34

Julia Long, she's always on the spot! 😃

This is disgraceful, though, and hopefully publicity will help.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/01/2024 13:41

Currently. Also if anyone donates remember you can removed the amount of money that is automatically added to go to CrowdJustice.

planted a couple of bulbs

Abhannmor · 24/01/2024 14:02

Done. Little acorns and all that. Robinsons is a fine pub. But there's plenty more in Belfast.

LWSnow · 24/01/2024 14:13

Will add to it later

Oh I see thank you!

Added a few seeds to this garden - glad to see action being taken to remind providers of goods and services that GC women (and men) have rights.

That might work to keep the case mentioned in the press: with women on their own, the media finds it mildly interesting; involve a famous man and the media considers it more interesting. Annoying that women fighting sexism isn’t considered newsworthy but 'man fights sexism' is 🤷‍♀️

GCITC · 26/01/2024 20:13

IcakethereforeIam · 26/01/2024 17:06

When I first saw the garden, Glinner hadn't said he was involved.

Hopefully it'll keep the carrots growing. Currently at 7500.

(And for those of you that like to spend your days screaming at the computer with your emotional support animal, it'll be interesting to see how Northern Irish courts work!)

Father Ted writer part of group suing over alleged discrimination in Belfast pub – The Irish Times
I hope it's not behind a paywall?
'Women’s rights campaigners including Father Ted writer Graham Linehan were allegedly subjected to discrimination in a Belfast pub because of their gender critical beliefs, a court heard on Monday.'

The Irish Times has been notoriously unbalanced on gender issues - either not reporting things at all if they supported GC views, or giving the right of reply/last word to groups like the TENI, a trans group which has an inordinate amount of influence in Ireland - all their input into gender legislation was taken on board wholesale without a hint of balance or analysis by lawmakers.

So apart from the questionable centre-staging of Glinner, the opening paragraph refers to 'women's rights campaigners' not 'anti-trans campaigners', KJK is referred to only as a 'controversial activist', and the report in general is objective. That's progress!

Don't expect a swift resolution, though:
Simon Chambers said: “My clients are delighted the matter is being progressed in a productive and orderly fashion towards the eventual hearing date, which I anticipate will be in early 2025.”

I was at the LWS event & in the pub afterwards. The staff were absolutely spoiled oiks. When they realised we’d been at the event they were refusing to serve us & trying to take glasses from us. A barman head butted a 75 year old man.

MarieDeGournay · 17/09/2024 19:03

I've been looking at the reports in the NI press - it's as if the whole incident revolved around Graham Linehan😠
Because so many press stories are word-for-word identical [how is that not plagiarism?] they all use the same neutral language as the Irish Times, 'controversial activist' 'Women's rights' etc.

The reports give the impression of a very charged situation. We were mainly middle aged women out for a drink in a Sunday afternoon. It was all very affable until they realised we’d been at LWS.

Kellie Jay didnt go to the bar, she had to get home.

The staff went bananas when they saw Glinner.

It's really valuable to have a first-hand report from you, thank you VaddaABeetch

What happened about the cake and the gay couple? Is this similar?
