What if "insert name of Political Party" become angry with me/us?

This came up on another thread and it made me wonder about consequences.

I live in the woke land of OZ sadly and our current government has pushed through legislation which affects the whole population for the few, without consultation with the general public. This was not done out of anger but because of intense lobbying by a minoruty of the community.

So what would the political party do if they get angry with an individual or group? In 2021 Clover Moore, Current Lord Mayor of Sydney, forced the Feminist Legal Clinic out of their building because they were focused on providing a service for women. They survived, just.

What are the consequences if a political party become angry? Targeted harrassment of the individual and/or the introduction of policies which serve the few but ignore the many?

Please provide your thoughts.

A political party or a government?

In the UK Labour, Lib Dems and the Green parties routinely harass and bully women who know sex is real and state that safeguarding children is essential - that's a right wing dogwhistle apparently. Their MPs are not above trying to intimidate women or sharing platforms with men convicted of violence who threaten to punch women.
None of them identify as responsible democratic parties that women could safely vote for. Seems an odd way to run a democracy but apparently they don't care.

And there is another thread recently posted on FWR about how a local Labour Party candidate has been suspended from the party a few days away from a local election, apparently for a tweet from last year where she stated her belief that sex is biological.

And there are a number of women who have been expelled from the Labour Party for similar statement of beliefs.

Green Party as well.

So not even sure they get angry.

They just revert to smug satisfaction that they can get rid of women who refuse to conform.

That's why in the UK quite a few women got excited about KJK forming a Women's Party. But she couldn't get it registered.

A political party or a government?

Either or both. Political parties may become governments but they also wield power over their members.

There was also a thread recently about how the Greens Womens Party (?) was being controlled by a vocal few who were attempting to remove those who did not agree that men could become women.

In the UK, government MPs from the Tory party have harrassed private citizens and reported them to the police/their employers for retweeting JKR.

Following the Shemima Begum case, the Tory government passed legistlation allowing them to deny UK citizens statehood without prior notification.

It's terrifying.

kick us out of the party, prevent us from properly engaging in political systems, destroy our reputations with false accusations, ostracise us from friendship groups*

*some people have been party members for decades and have dedicated a lot of free time to running & participating meetings, campaigning etc and their local friendship groups are often very party-centric, just because that’s how they meet/see people.

Political parties can behave like coercive controlling boyfriends.

Which is why so many of us have noped the fuck out of all our previous parties, left, right and centrist!

Who has been expelled?

ScathingAngelAgrona · 15/01/2024 21:41

Thank you for the replies. This is what is worrying. Freedom of speech and thought seems to apply only to those who think the right way. Once again, asking questions, thinking thoughts is not allowed for many people mainly those pesky women.

Politically it's currently open season and very fashionable to go all guns blazing with prejudice and flat out anger and worse at the wrong kind of women who want rights that thwart male wishes.

There’s some background in this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4040226-labour-losing-women

Labour losing women | Mumsnet

Is it possible to find out how many female members Labour has lost over the last couple of years? I imagine their membership has fallen quite a bit...
