Munroe has had a UN Women gig for ages. Munroe gave a speech at the UN HQ in New York about gender stereotypes in advertising. Munroe earns most of their money through modelling, goes to Awards Ceremonies, gets given awards, hangs out with their influential mate Edward Enninful and goes on lots of holidays.
Just putting up a few instagram posts with ‘Protect Trans Kids’ and getting it tattooed on your arm isn’t ‘Activism’ - or if that is what activism is these days, then I despair. Munroe has spates of making political pronouncements on other issues ie. Palestine - but mostly their Instagram is about their glamorous life, glamorous pals and their tiny dogs.
But somehow people have got the impression that Munroe is this hugely influential ‘activist’ - I can’t quite work out why. There are so many intelligent, hard-working, eloquent women that could fulfil this role in the UK. Why choose someone who is trans and who embodies so many stereotypes about women?
I can actually forgive Munroe for those awful tweets from many years ago and I think L’Oreal handled their sacking very badly. But I just don’t think Munroe has any of the gravitas and life experience I think you expect from someone in this role. Why not choose a woman who works with female ex-prisoners, or victims of domestic violence, or someone involved in the Education system? Or a sportswoman? Why a model, and a very niche one at that?
Oh and if this thread stays up I’ll be very surprised.
