I agree. What do they actually do for women and girls?

Rightsraptor · 22/12/2023 02:35

Bergdorf does nothing for women.

UN Women does nothing for women.

They're well matched.

DuckalaBanana · 22/12/2023 06:36

I guess this is what the UN meant by He for She, it always did sound stupid. He for He more like.

MrsJamin · 22/12/2023 06:41

FFS

Theinnocenteyeballsinthesky · 22/12/2023 07:22

Fucksake! I mean obviously they’d appoint a man to champion women because UNWomen hate actual women but was MB the best they could do??

Floisme · 22/12/2023 08:10

Excellent - Bergdorf's first job can be to ride to the rescue after Dawn Butler's had us all arrested.

The last time I looked, Bergdorf's career achievements are: Modelling and an occasional DJ gig.

Quite. Bergdorf has hardly been reticent about sharing their disdain for women.

Does this champion get an actual horse? Should we be throwing gloves or handkerchiefs maybe?

MrsJamin · 22/12/2023 10:37

What is Munroe going to do for us UK women? I'm interested. Anyone got a clue?

DialSquare · 22/12/2023 10:43

This is Bergdorf's horse.....

UN women UK appoints first ever UK champion.
ArabellaScott · 22/12/2023 10:49

Tips on facial surgery? Playboy modelling?

Apparently it's in the service of combatting stereotypes. Because Bergdorf is definitely not a walking example of sexist stereotypes at all.

You win MN today.
It would be funny if it wasn't funny.
So sick of all this bull shit.

LookFor · 22/12/2023 10:55

Munroe has had a UN Women gig for ages. Munroe gave a speech at the UN HQ in New York about gender stereotypes in advertising. Munroe earns most of their money through modelling, goes to Awards Ceremonies, gets given awards, hangs out with their influential mate Edward Enninful and goes on lots of holidays.

Just putting up a few instagram posts with ‘Protect Trans Kids’ and getting it tattooed on your arm isn’t ‘Activism’ - or if that is what activism is these days, then I despair. Munroe has spates of making political pronouncements on other issues ie. Palestine - but mostly their Instagram is about their glamorous life, glamorous pals and their tiny dogs.

But somehow people have got the impression that Munroe is this hugely influential ‘activist’ - I can’t quite work out why. There are so many intelligent, hard-working, eloquent women that could fulfil this role in the UK. Why choose someone who is trans and who embodies so many stereotypes about women?

I can actually forgive Munroe for those awful tweets from many years ago and I think L’Oreal handled their sacking very badly. But I just don’t think Munroe has any of the gravitas and life experience I think you expect from someone in this role. Why not choose a woman who works with female ex-prisoners, or victims of domestic violence, or someone involved in the Education system? Or a sportswoman? Why a model, and a very niche one at that?

Oh and if this thread stays up I’ll be very surprised.

Froodwithatowel · 22/12/2023 11:48

Unwomen appointed an unwoman to continue their work of unwomening women.

They woked themselves out of being taken seriously about anything at all some years ago, sadly.

DuesToTheDirt · 22/12/2023 11:58

So, putting aside (if you can) the issue of transwomen actually being men, they have appointed a vile, misogynistic individual to represent women's rights.

Gee, thanks, guys!

Floisme · 22/12/2023 12:29

It would be funny if it wasn't funny.

I think we should always laugh at them. Always. They can't handle it.

ArabellaScott · 22/12/2023 13:12

influential mate - ah, that explains an awful lot.

Can we have a full list of all the men who are leading so-called "women's" organisations now? 😡

Froodwithatowel · 22/12/2023 13:38

Now wouldn't that make an excellent end of year article!

Boiledbeetle · 22/12/2023 14:21

OvaHere · 21/12/2023 23:51

I literally just opened this thread to see which man they'd given it to. Of course they weren't going to give it to a woman.

Isn't it depressing that most of thought the same!

TERFisTHEnewTREND · 22/12/2023 17:49

I'm no fan of Munroe, and I am FURIOUS that they've been given the UN role, however I'm not sure that people should keep bringing up quotes MB made ten years or so ago?

I wouldn't want to be judged on something I said ten years ago (hey, I was a lib dem back then), so I don't think we should judge others in that way too?
