Miss France beauty contest: short-haired winner described as woke

Miss France beauty contest. The winner is a stunning 20-year-old, pictured in a swimsuit, who was the only woman in the contest to have short hair in what seems to be a Purdey-style cut. Apparently the French public are outraged about this display of woke inclusivity. Link to an archived Telegraph page.

All the shingled flappers: Mary Quant in the 60s: most of my friends at school in the 70s. All those years of feminism. And now apparently we were all androgynous and our short hair was 'inclusive'.

To be fair it's quite Mumsnet to describe anything you don't like or that's not super traditional as "woke." If she was black there'd definitely be MN threads accusing the organisers of being woke.

As the two far more popular women were from overseas departments, perhaps it's the opposite and the judges were asleep?

There's absolutely no mistaking that she's a woman at all, for goodness sake!

She isn’t androgynous in the least. The world’s going backwards at an alarming rate.

I agree. She is dainty featured, feminine and beautiful.
Androgynous indeed!

Utter nonsense.

Most women in France have short hair. If you go to any event, the numbers with long hair are countable on one hand.

They completely made this all up.

French women are mostly more likely outraged that this sort of outdated contest still goes on.

The winner looks really beautiful, but in quite a standard 1990s supermodel way.
