Gryffindor

Gender Identity is real, and takes precedence over reality. Unbelievers will be punished.

You are: Stonewall; The Witchfinder General.

Hufflepuff

Gender Identity is real, and takes precedence over reality, but the existence of unbelievers is grudgingly acknowledged. Unbelievers will be tutted at, and shunned.

You are: A Liberal Feminist; The Church of England circa 1950.

Ravenclaw

Gender Identity is not real, and reality should take precedence, but the existence of believers is acknowledged and wearily accepted. May attempt to deprogram Hufflepuffs, with variable results.

You are: a TERF; a suspected witch.

Slytherin

Gender Identity is not real, and biology is destiny. Attempts to escape current local cultural norms for your sex (up to and including 'transitioning') may actually be a capital offence.

You are: one of the few UN states that currently ban transitioning; The Taliban.

To those who take issue with the allocation of TRAs to Gryffindor - come now! We all know that Gryffindors are self-righteous idiots with main character syndrome.

Somethings gone wrong I'm in Gryffindor

Backs out of thread slowly so as not to draw attention.

DaizenShine · 12/12/2023 19:15

Hufflepuff! ☺️

GoodOldEmmaNess · 12/12/2023 19:30

I would have said:
Gryffindor: Brave enough to speak the truth but not always bright enough to see it. Therefore a mixture of out-TERFS and pre-peaked Good Chaps urging 'both sides' to be reasonable.
Ravenclaw: Drowning in pseudo-academic gender theory word salad. Plus a few brilliant but silent critics of same.
Hufflepuff: Furries.
Slytherin: The Green Party.

Ravenclaw, though I do have a hankering for that other school of wizardry with the cute little blue outfits, I am sure they have no truck with gender woo, and if any male students tried to claim they wanted to attend because otherwise their feelingz would be hurt they would be sorted out pdq.

It was only in the films that Beauxbatons was all girls and Durmstrang all boys, and the girls did gymnastics and blew kisses while the boys looked hard and did the sparks-from-sticks thing. It really pissed me off when I saw that Fleur had been reduced to a simpering idiot and Krum to a midwit. They were much better characters in the books.

But their uniforms were smart, not like those shapeless gowns the Hogwarts kids wore.

I agrée with this. Gryffindors are brave they would stand up if they understood. If we say GI is "magic is might", with all the fear and persecution it's the Gryffindor, who stand up. Ravenclaw hufflepuff join the side for the final battle

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/12/2023 19:49

I would have said:

Gryffindor: TERFs
Hufflepuff: Be Kind
Ravenclaw: Don't believe in the gender fairy but prefer an easy life
Slytherin: Stonewall, Mermaids, Owen Jones, Billy Brag etc.

Yep, I agree.

Fukuraptor · 13/12/2023 08:53

Gryffindor GC here!

There's nothing brave about pretending to believe men are women so as not to hurt their feelings regardless of how badly it effects women.

McGonagall and Hermione would have no truck with this sort of divination adjacent nonsense.

morningtoncrescent62 · 13/12/2023 09:29

I'm watching and judging as a mad ideology takes over Hogwarts, the majority fail to spot it before it takes hold, regulations are changed to ensure its dominance, and only a tiny number, once they notice it, are prepared to challenge it. I'm shaking my head at the folly of these living witches and wizards.

Yes, I'm the Fat Lady!

On the one hand, yes, McGonagall has a razor sharp mind and zero tolerance for bullshit.

On the other hand, she can literally transform herself into a cat and is employed to teach young witches and wizards how to transform things into completely different things.

Love that. ‘The bumbling badger of mediocrity’ 😂

I would read that book!

"HP and the Wall of Stone"?
"HP and the Misogynist Child"?

I really loved "The Casual Vacancy" because of the slightly misanthropic side-eye the author gives to humanity. She could totally write your novel and make it funny as hell.

Thank you everyone for playing along. Conclusion: we all need to be a bit more Gryffindor even if it doesn't come naturally. Because being (genuinely) kind and being rational are necessary, but not sufficient.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 13/12/2023 13:20

One of my daughters does the quizzes and comes up with Slytherin she says it is ambition which puts her there and I will add being somewhat misanthropic. She is GC but keeps it hidden, she just avoids the topic of gender identity as far as possible and complies with compelled speech when it is expedient to do so.

I test as Ravenclaw, admittedly I might fall under knows the truth but keeps quiet (I attended DEI training at work recently which included informing us that no one should laugh about Eddie Izzard in the workplace nor suggest that Eddie doesn’t belong in the women’s toilets*). However I have thus far been able to side step compelled speech and intend to continue to avoid participation in the rituals of gender identity ideology whilst keeping my job.

Another daughter tests as Hufflepuff, she also knows that sex is real and is very against the idea of boys in the girls’ toilets. She doesn’t think it is kind to girls. She valued her privacy and dignity.

So I think that gender identity ideology and critical theories more generally may split the Harry Potter houses just like in real life you can often not guess whether a person will be for sex or for gender identity taking precedence in society until they give you clear evidence through what they are sharing on social media or real life conversations. I still haven’t had The Conversation with some of my friends or any of my extended family!

*No I have never seen Eddie Izzard in my workplace nor am I expecting to any time soon.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 13/12/2023 13:29

Also this was one played next for me after the fantastic Welcome to Hufflepuff

From the good old days when nobody knew what a pronoun was. I nearly wet myself laughing.

That Mitchell and Webb look - Caesar

This is not my video, this is just a video I couldn't find on my own. It is a great sketch where Julius Caesar is introduced to the idea of referring to hims...

Given JK Rowling was sorted into Gryffindor (to her surprise, she thought she was a Hufflepuff) by the “official” test; I think we can safely say Gryffindor is not the House of GenderWoo. Indeed, as a PP pointed out, with how captured Muggle academia is, Ravenclaws are the obvious candidates for being up to their eyes in it 🤷‍♀️

I’d like to think all this nonsense would pass the Wizarding World by though. They haven’t accepted fountain pens or biros, all of which would actually make things easier; so I can’t see them leaping for preferred pronouns 😁

SinnerBoy · 13/12/2023 13:51

I'd also be Ravenclaw.

Baircasolly · 13/12/2023 13:59

Spot on. Gryffindors have massive white Knight syndrome, and like to blunder into situations with a "cause" rather than any kind of rational thought.

I think this also highlights perfectly how Ravenclaw and Slytherin hold very different viewpoints, despite the Gryffindors insistence that the Ravenclaws are just a bunch of bigotted Slytherins.

Or even if it didn't pass them by trans witches and wizards could probably find a better way of actually "living as" the opposite sex. Polyjuice potion, perhaps.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/12/2023 14:48

If we were to immerse ourselves into the wizarding world...

There does seem to be less gender conformity. (I apologise for sounding a bit geekish here... I can remember large passages of books I've only read once). Theres the flamboyant cloaks. There's a character who can change their appearance at will. There's an old men who prefers wear nightgown so he feels freer. There's magic staircases that can detect boys.

I don't think gender would matter so much there.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/12/2023 14:49

Not to mention a sport where men and women play as equals... the only single sex team mentioned being the Harpies who are all women. Men and women appear to have equal career opportunities.

SwordToFlamethrower · 13/12/2023 15:06

I'm already a Ravenclaw so no change there! 💙

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 13/12/2023 15:28

That M&W sketch is also an excellent illustration of what messing with the normal rules of grammar does to your train of thought.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/12/2023 20:03

Ravenclaw all the way!

WandaWomblesaurus · 16/12/2023 11:05

I'm a Slytherin Terf.
I know exactly what a snake is.

Covert conversations and secretly unpicking language when talking to TRAs until they start to stumble on their own warped logic.

Boys shouldn't be in girls bathrooms. Look what happened to Moaning Myrtle.
