Saying the quiet part out loud….

Michael Cashman has announced he is incensed by the right wing wanting safeguarding in schools and wants to push back against it:

Saying the quiet bit out very, very loud there Mr Cashman.

Safeguarding is for ALL pupils not the sacred few and that surprisingly includes GIRLS (shock horror they are human) who should be safeguarded from having to access toilet and changing room facilities with males.

Girls shouldn’t be safeguarded, you will be saying random strangers shouldn’t be allowed access to primary school changing rooms next!

Drat, sorry I forgot women and girls don't count they are just there to service the male population. I will now book into the Gulag for re-education.

Karensalright · 01/12/2023 22:31

Love it the more the TRAS push the better it gets, foot and shooting come to mind cannot get exorcised about it

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/12/2023 22:35

Wow, not child safeguarding! The effrontery of it, organising a debate in parliament about that!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/12/2023 22:35

He seems to be implying that safeguarding is a right-wing dog whistle. Does this mean he thinks there's no need for safeguarding in schools? How far down the rabbithole do you have to be to have lost sight of what the general population will make of a statement like that?

SaffronSpice · 01/12/2023 22:37

And safeguarding children is now a right wing thing. The left wing is now against protecting children from abuse, grooming or predators.

And we get post after post telling us that we should look at the bigger picture at the next GE.

nauticant · 01/12/2023 22:45

Look at all the Lords and Ladies one can contact to make sure they mention about Cashman's intervention:

nauticant · 01/12/2023 22:47

Strictly speaking that should be Lords and Baronesses.

Rightsraptor · 01/12/2023 22:48

Yep, safeguarding is right wing, just as free speech & freedom of expression are. What a bloody country.

And who on earth made Cashman a lord? And a CBE? Just what exactly has he ever done, besides being in Eastenders?

On the plus side, if they accept R White's help (I've just realised that's a brand of lemonade - sugary and full of gas), it won't go well for them.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 01/12/2023 22:48

Out of curiosity who did actually organise this debate? I would have hoped it was a cross party type thing.

Topofthemountain · 01/12/2023 22:55

Has he just admitted that "pupils being themselves" is a (potential) safeguarding issue? Or that "pupils being themselves" don't deserve any safeguarding?

Why else would you want to push back against safeguarding? (Maybe don't answer that one)

MrsOvertonsWindow · 01/12/2023 23:04

Quite unbelievable that a parliamentarian would speak out against the need to safeguard children. Reframing safeguarding as "right wing bigotry"

Ah well - I suppose when these men show us who they really are we'd better start believing them.

SaffronSpice · 01/12/2023 23:06

It seems he has a patronage. I wonder if there is anything in PT writings and interviews that might hint at reasons for removing safeguarding?

Hmmm. That might explain his dismal attitude to safeguarding children.

Karensalright · 01/12/2023 23:14

He hasn’t deleted it yet so the replies haven’t caused him to stop and think. But then all those replies are from right wing bigots who support safeguarding and probably female.
